Actually, Pinky, I was gonna de-louse the kitchen when I got there. It’s just this thing I gotta do at every restaurant I eat in…
Thanks for the directions, too, folks. And I think some sort of sign (or other indication, like everyone wearing antler hats) would be a good idear. I dunno what anyone looks like. Guess I’ll just look around for the rowdiest, yet most erudite group in the joint.
not a very large restaurant, won’t be hard to miss the group acting like a bunch of dopers, don’t worry, the staff will expect us, and direct incoming dopers to the appropriate place.
Can we make the reservation in the name of Cecil Adams? That way we can ask by name for the group.
I’m coming, I might be alone. Stupid friends all have to work. Bastards. Oh, well, if you don’t see me, assume I’m wandering the streets of New York screaming [StanlyKowalski] DOPERS! [/StanlyKowalski]
Pinky, (gosh that’s weird) I would love to meet Brooklynites beforehand but there’s a chance I may not make it at all. My mum was diagnosed with breast cancer (she’ll be fine, no big deal) and I might have to trudge to Wisconsin depending on when she has the surgery.
If I can make it:
I love Antarctica - great bartenders and good pool table. Can we go there after dinner?
I look forward to meeting the newcomers and hanging out with the old gang!
God SaxFace, that is a big deal! You can e-mail me about Saturday.
I’ll be bringing one or two guests. Beerchick had such a good time last time she made me promise to take her the next time. Hubby has finally registered. He had such a good time at the mini-GL Wasteful fest that I am not allowed to go to another without him.
Sax, my condolences, i hope she is still able to recover, i have been through that myself with my father. I really do hope you can make it, i was planning on suggesting Antarctica after dinner, it’s right across the street. I’d love to meet the dopers in NY. The reservations are set, (its not some great fancy restaurant, but i wanted to make sure we’d have a place, the garden may be open as well if it’s nice out),
the hostess/managers name is Heather, (she’s my ex), she’s the beautiful redhead that will be seating you most likely, Brian, the friendly bartender/busboy may as well.
The chef is Jaenette Maeir, (she rocks as a chef), and Adam is the other owner of the restaurant, he’ll be there as well. I think he might be a lurker actually. will find out.
see you all there
Sax, I hope your Mom’s OK–keep us updated! From what you said, it sounds like they got it early. My Mom is going in for her mammogram today, and always gets very nervous.
Sorry to hear about your mom, Sax. Hope everything goes well. My mother and mother-in-law both had it, and while it turned out OK in both cases, it’s scary and very worrisome while you all go through it together.
You’ll be with us in spirit, though, I’m sure. Best to you, your family and especially your mum.
Wow, you guys, thanks! I wasn’t even trying to milk sympathy! She has informed me that the operation will be on the 16th, so it looks like I’ll be able to make it to the event this weekend.
The tumor was caught very early and it’s going to be a minor procedure and no one in the family is sweating. The only thing that sucks is that she’s there alone - I wish there was more support for her in Wisconsin.
This shouldn’t impede with the road trip, although the couple I’m driving out for are rethinking moving to Seattle. It’s so annoying. Well, if they don’t move, I’ll go out to the West Coast for that week anyway.
Eve, I hope your mom’s ok! Please use this as a reminder to all women to get regular checkups.
Now, let’s get back to planning the dinner this Saturday! Pinky, Uke, other Brooklyn Dopers, let’s meet beforehand in Park Slope - Harry Bolan’s at 5?
Ok, I’m probably coming from my godparents’ apartment, at 87th and East End. At that point, my car will be in my godfather’s space in his garage, which is on 86th and 2nd (I think). Should I take it out of the garage and drive it, take a cross town bus or the subway? I’m e-mailing soulsling my cell number, too, so in case I don’t show up by 7:30, you guys can call me.
Swim, avoid driving in Manhattan if at all possible. I don’t think Manny would enjoy that. Don’t drive in the city either. I’m trying to think of the trains near you. What ever happened to that 2nd ave subway we were promised?
The Lexington Ave. line is the only one I can think of. You’ll have to take the suttle at 42nd to catch the 1 or 9. Does anyone have a better way?
swimming riddles, don’t bother driving through Manhattan on a saturday nite. you can take the green line, 4,5 or 6 down to times square, switch to the C or E, take that to spring st., and walk two blocks over to the restaurant. heck. i’ll email you a map. if you do drive, there is a parking lot next to the restaurant.
Do you really want poor Swim to walk from the 4 or 5 train to the C or E at Times Square? She might as well walk to Hudson! I can hear the cell call now.
“Soul? It’s dark and stinky and there are so many turns. Oh wait, what is that man doing in that dark corner?! Oh, never mind, he’s just happy to see me.”
The 1 or the 9 is right there once she gets off the shuttle.
yes pink, but the walk from the 1 and 9 to the kitchen is longer, like 4 city blocks, while the walk from the shuttle to the c or e is slightly less, and underground, with people everywhere, and safer i’d imagine. completely up to Swiddles, but the cab might be the best, $10 sounds about right. emailed you a map swiddles.
