I have the map, thanks soul. What about buses? If I take the cross town at 86th, is there one that heads down that way?
Pink, I think it’d be more of a “Muggers and hookers and leary people, oh my!”

bus? yuck. i never take the bus. sorry, i’m a snot that way.
don’t know much about the buses. but the Metro Transit Authority might be able to help.
Here’s the method in my madness: if I take a bus, I see where I’m going. Therefore, I will not end up in, say, JERSEY. Whereas with a subway, you hear the following “MWAAWWWAHJHJSSAAWW” over the load speaker, and are supposed to know which stop you’re at. A bit more difficult.
if the link doesn’t help, and i’ll check into it myself later after work, just give me a hollar.
Soul, I discovered my little laminated map of Manhatten has the subway stops on it. SCORE! If I can get to Times Square (which I know I can, I’ve done it before) than I can most definately get to the resturant.
Alright, here’s the update. Herban Kitchen on Hudson and Spring, 7:00. In attendance will be:
Myself, granted I get off the right train.
Soulsling
Lux Fiat
DreamWorks
Green Bean
Billdo
SaxFace
Davew0071
Wonko the Sane
Manny
Pink Slinky
Uke Ike
Joe_Cool
The Brooklyn contingent will be meeting seperately and earlier. I request that upon entering the resturant, they declare, as a group: “Brooklyn in da house!”
Copious consumtion of alcohol to commence after dinner at Antarctica, which has the decided honor of the Saxface seal of approval.
So here’s a little background, I’m visisting my godfather to find out about the possiblilty of a loan from him so I can quit my job, work part time and go to school full time. That conversation will probably take place Saturday. So by Saturday night, I will either feel the need to celebrate, as I will soon be a full time student, or feel the need to cry, as it appears I will be on the 10 years to a BS plan. Either way, if they let me, I’ll feel like drinking.
This is all assuming I don’t get lost A.) getting into the city at 10:00 tonight and B.) I don’t get lost getting to the resturant tomorrow night. Anyhoo, hope to see yall then!
Hello all.
Thanks a bunch Sax for leading me here, and I’m glad to hear that your mom’s situation is not serious.
I haven’t read the whole thread, (or even close to it yet) just the last few posts, but I did see Park Slope mentioned, where I currently reside.
I’m probably going to end up at the Knit on Sat. but I’d love to try and poke my head where you all will be for introductions and hello’s.
So if someone can fill me in on the latest, I would appreciate it.
So, what is this, 5 posters who live in Park Slope? Ridiculous. Must be a hip area.
Moe, I think Uke, Pinky Slinky, her husband and I are meeting at Harry Bolan’s Bar (5th Ave and 9th Street) in Brooklyn at 5 pm on Saturday for pre-Doperfest-drunkedness. You are welcome to join us, fellow Park Sloper!
Pinky and I will be yaking it up at the bar, her husband will be playing the Megatouch and Uke will probably be drooling in the corner. Just kidding, he’ll be looking at the Juke Box.
Then we’ll take the subway to meet up with the others around 6 or 7. Jazz freaks are especially welcome.
We’re planning on showing up at the main meeting drunk?
Wow. That is so Brooklyn!
Don’t we want to take the IRT up to the West Village? Isn’t it kind of a slog from 5th and 9th up to…what, the Bergen Street stop? Or the Atlantic?
I seem to remember someone mentioning that there was a parking garage near the restaurant, but I couldn’t find the post on it. True or no? I’m actually going to drive right down (we suburbanites are SO uncool), and I don’t wanna hafta try to find my way back to my car in the possible state I’ll be in. The simpler the better.
Can someone (Soulsling) help me out here?
OK, so as I understand it:
Harry Bolan’s @5pm for Brooklyn dopers pre-Doperfest thang
Herban Kitchen @7pm for actual Doperfest
Sounds groovy. I will hopefully see you cats tomorrow.
DrMatrix and I didn’t want to chime in 'till we were certain we could be there…we’ll be there.
Sax, sorry to hear about your mom.
Biggirl, you’ll always be Biggirl to me.
sorry so late.
yes, parking lot next to restaurant.
Herban Kitchens Web site for any more info on the actual place.
usually plenty of parking on weekend in evening there anyway. see ya lads and ladies there…
Hm. Still trying to figure out my subway options. I’ll be coming in to Grand Central. It seems the directions you gave Swiddles might work also for me, given the map I’m looking at on the Transit Authority website. I might just end up taking a cab myself, but that just seems like the easy way out. Plus, the subway only costs a buck fitty, and you can’t beat that.
Oh, and DreamWorks can’t make it Saturday night, 'cause he’ll be working. I’m crashing at his place that night, though, and prolly going with him to the Puerto Rican Day parade on Sunday, so if any of y’all will be there (Pink?), we’ll have to arrange to meet or something.
An added bonus for the ladies: if you meet DreamWorks and I at the parade, you’ll get to see him in his uniform.
Christ. The above should read “DreamWorks and me.” I apologize.
**Lux: ** Grab the Shuttle from Grand Central to 42nd Street, then take the West Side IRT local (the 1 or the 9) downtown to Houston Street.
– The Subway Bandit
Will do, Uke. See everyone tonight.
– Suburb Mouse
{reminiscing fondly over that first-ever SDMB party last year, with just Eve, SaxFace, manhattan, Alphagene, and me…how we giggled hysterically over the fact that we all relished giving out bum directions to out-of-towners…wondering how Lux will enjoy Staten Island}
I’ll bring food, but I won’t do dishes. That’s what takeout is all about.
And a good time was had by all!
