Anyone who lives in this big beautiful city and likes music should check out the following:
Tonight, Friday, September 28th, @ Tobacco Road (41st St. and 9th Ave.)
Reilly Irie Productions presents “One Love”:
Irish-backed reggae party with myself as the warmup (9-ish thru 11-ish), then 2 reggae bands, and then another reggae dj at the end. Mostly nice roots stuff. The vibe at these parties has been great, and the reggae brings messages of peace in this time of “War”. If you like the rub-a-dub-stylee ona rasta tip, come on by.
Saturday, October 6th @ Tobacco Road (41st and Ninth Ave.)
Benefit to raise money for the WTC disaster fund:
This day is gonna be nuts. Starting at noon and going till 4:00 in the morning, there will be 10 bands. All the bands are rockin’ and they are all donating their services for free. I will spin in between the bands sets. This is gonna be a long, fun, danceable day. Expect Funk, Jazz, Rock, Blues, Country, Hip-Hop & Reggae(guess who).
Monday, October 15th @ The Elbow Room (144 Bleeker Street and LaGuardia)
I.M.E.'s latest party:
This is another fun one. I’ll have the whole side room of the elbow room to keep the big beats flowin’ while 10 or so bands jam in the other room. Mostly rock n’ roll bands with some accoustic and funk mixed in.
Saturday, October 27th @ John Street Bar and Grill (17 John Street and Broadway)
Halloween Party:
Man these are the craziest halloween parties I’ve ever been to. 2 bands plus me playing pretty much at all times. This mother usually goes till the next day and it’s a marathon of music. $500 prize for the best costume. Hint: the winner usually has moving parts in his/her costume.
I do hope some of you will make it to any or all of these shows. Introduce yourself if you do. I’ll be the Dj with the pimp hat and the nuts around my neck. And finally, I’m not sure if it’s mundane or pointless, but I must share it. I saw a reggae band last night and they sang a song with these lyrics:
“When you fight fire with fire you get a pile of ash. But when you fight fire with water you get a big splash.”
I find this especially wise, relative to the current war situation. Sunsplash is a word for great reggae parties. The message is if we fight violence with violence we’ll destroy everything. If you put out the fires that cause the violence, then we can all just get back to dancing. I loved it.
Anyway, hope to see you there.
