NYC MegaDopefest Journal 2003

None from me yet… not for awhile. I’ve got to get mine developed before I can put them up. I AM curious to see the mini-skirted me pics though. I think I was drunk enough to think I looked good, but I want to know if it was the drink talking or if I actually looked good.

Which reminds me, Eonwe, don’t forget to drop me a line about the pics pages. It was great to finally meet you!

[sub]And my new sig, created especially at this Fest. I guess you had to be there…[/sub]

I knew I’d forget someone important.

Dynosaur - Hon, it was great to see you again! You helped make my night. I’m glad you liked the dollar, and I plan on giving you one every Fest I see you at. See how far a penny can take you? Thanks for being a doll, babe.

I’ve been back home for an hour or so. I’m so glad I took the train, it would have been hard to even be a passenger in a car driving through NJ/DE/MD in that slop. Things were antsy enough just driving my ancient truck home from the New Carrollton Amtrak station.

I had a great time, but I’m kinda tired right now, so I’ll just say thank you to all you guys who organized it, especially Billdo for letting us all crowd into his apartment yet again, and feed us bagels and stuff to boot.

Just got back. Great time.

While I’m really not in bad shape, the laryngitis is now complete. I tried to say something to the woman next to me on the plane, and nothing came out. She gave me an odd look. I hid in a magazine for 1600 miles.

It was great to see a lot of y’all again, and meet a lot of new folks. Well, new to me - it’d be hard to describe Euty as a new Doper.

I think I’ll pass on naming folks, at least until I rest a bit.

Billdo, thanks for your efforts, pal.

TruePisces, I talked to Mrs. Dave-Guy about the four of us invading Philly and she loved the idea. Probably won’t happen until this summer, though. We’ll be in touch. Summer works for you, doesn’t it? As you know, school’s out then, and zoos and outdoor activities are easier to do.

But we’ll get out there. Any chance the incredibly wonderful Zappo could be part of this safari as well? Because that really would be the best.

RTFirefly, it was a pleasure to socialize with you again. I’m glad you got home safely. Give my regards to your lovely wife (and Charlotte the cat, of course!).

Delphica, I’ll be in touch with that info. Thank you. Daughter raised her hands in triumph and squealed, “I’m networking!” when I told her.

Soda, yum. That’s all. Just yum. You rock.

Billdo, you have my undying thanks for your hospitality and help. I know I speak for Persephone as well. She’ll probably post here herself in the next day or so. But you really made this weekend’s logistics easier.

The rest of you…yizz’re all the bestest.

Who knew the A Train line was non-op from Jay St. to Utica Ave, and NO Far Rockaway trains went through 59th St? We got on the third or fourth Jay St. A Train, then got on a bus at Jay, wound our way slowly to Euclid, then forced our way into a grocery store toilet so Lise could pee, then back on the train to JFK, less than an hour before departure. From Billdo’s it took us 3 1/2 hours, good thing we decided to skip Grand Central and just get to the airport “early”.

What a blast. Great people, great fun, great brunch. Lots o’ pics going to be posted, no worries.

Tired. Much fun.

I got to meet a bunch of people I wanted to meet (Soda, Jack Batty, Demo and psycat, and all-too-briefly Sue Duhnym spring to mind). but I also met some folks I didn’t know I wanted to meet but am damn glad I did, like the smokin’ hot Acrylic Vessel. And of course it was wonderful to see again those I’d already met.

More later. Must sleep now.

Oh, I knew I was going to forget someone. I was thrilled to meet Saxface too. And if I was happy to meet you and forgot again to name you, my deepest and most humble apologies.

Oh, what a lovely dope. Had a grand time with my Subway crew, and with the Rapidly Expanding Dim Sum Bunch! Some shouts, in random order:

Billdo, MC-of-MCs, who deserved every No Idea free drink,

Weirddave and GingeroftheNorth, my delightful guests who are welcome back any time,

Zappo, Joey Hemlock, Lindy Hopper, DaveW007 - still didn’t get enough time with you guys, but it was more than last year and that’s a terrific improvement.

Spit, I’m really glad you made it! Come to New York again soon!

Soda, for coming over oceans - Oceans! - to see us.

Persephone, who’s a doll,

LisaBethnyc, a lovely newbie,

The NYC peeps: Green Bean, Pucette, Vix, Sua Sponte, Delphica, Manhattan, Canby, Biggirl, True Pisces-in-exile, The Acrylic Heapsters, Cosmopolitan

Grandfather Trout, for returning! Finally! To open arms! (and a really sappy flute accompaniment…)

GeoBabe & UncleBill, who are fabulous! - Oh my god, I missed your post until I previewed, what a gigantic PITA. I should’ve checked the TA website to see what the latest construction was, damn I’m sorry.

Matt-mcl and Scott Evil, Montrealais extraordinaire (screw it, I’m not searching for accents…:))

I’m sure I’m forgetting people but damn, what a good time…

Well, got back home at 10:00 tonight, after dropping Andygirl off at school and scott evil at the bus station.

Wow. Wow. What a great time. I had a blast meeting everybody, and participating in the various doperliscious events of the weekend. In particular:

Maeglin, thank you so much for hosting us all. Your hospitality was greatly appriciated, and is only surpassed by your bad attitude ;). I hope things are going all right.

Cosmopolitan, so glad to have met you, and sorry I missed you at the breakfast.

Kyla, great great conversations, and wonderful enthusiasm at the Natural History Museum. How many more Celocants (sp) are there left in North America that you haven’t seen?

Geobabe, for answering questions about rocks and stuff.

Uncle Bill, for answering questions about kilts.

typo-mna, your subway antics will forever be remembered in the bowels of New York City… now I’ve got to go find me a hot dog.

Billdo, you also were an excellent host, I’m so glad to have met you.

Hamadryad, who is probably still hepped up on espresso beans.

And everyone else… it was my pleasure to have met you all.

TruePisces, I’ll get to work on the page first thing tomorrow.

And related to that, if anyone wants to send me photos to put up on the soon-to-be kick-ass NYC Dopefest 2003 page, either e-mail them to me, or if you don’t have them electronically, I can scan them if you want to mail 'em to me.

Thanks everyone, see y’all soon.

I have arrived in Philly sane and sound.

…well, sound anyway.

This was a kick, and I’ll actually be able to thank the appropriate people, because I remember it all. Tomorrow, crash time.

And why is that? (you ask) A: a dopefest carried off with restraint and moderation. Limited consumption of alcohol, no binge eating, getting sleep, not hitting on everyone cute/nice/boinkable…

Dear Lord, let me go next year and I promise I won’t make the same mistakes again.

But it was wonderful, and I got to hang with a few of my best friends without having to go across 6 states, and as an added bonus, everyone else was there too.

::hugs all::

yep, right on schedule, shoulda hugged more people.

All right, what nasty things did you say behind my back?

Weenies in the pooper! WEENIES IN THE POOPER!

Ugh Gingy… I was trying to repress that… thank you sooooo much.

And where were you this past weekend?

OK, let it be known that I may be asleep before this post is over.

New ones (to me) that I enjoyed the heck out of meeting: Acrylic Vessel, Cosmopolitan, Jessica2, andygirl (gahh - did I spell that right?), Ginger, waterj2, whatmove, anon, anon…

I was glad to again see Perse (always a treat), psycat and Demo, manny and canby, aw, crap, there’s too many to list.

It was good to see you, Oxy.

Joey, Joey, Joey. I’m gonna come find you in Chicago this Spring.

I spent part of this morning kind of cornered into a discussion of knitting with Green Beannie, Laurange and Kyla. Really, gals, I do spend a bit of time peeking into parts of life that are not part of mine. So I occasionaly pick up a copy of LowRider, or some such.

That’s what this morning’s conversation was like for me, and I thank y’all for it. Kyla’s scarf truly impressed me. I can’t do that.

I can’t let it go without mentioning my meeting with Mr. Sprout. Lucky Boy. Several Moms in the crowd, and I think he was workin’ it. Good luck to ya’ pal.

I had such an awesome time Saturday, I have to say thanks to all of you who organized it and all of you who joined in.

Special thanks to True Pisces, Verrain, Lindyhopper, and Zappo for taking me under your collective wing and being such great people to hang out with in general.

Moments remembered–seing Lindyhopper in that wonderful suit with his hair down–mmmmm! Seeing scott evil in his tiara–he’s cute as a button! Seeing MsWas removing most of his outer clothing and darn near his shirt in America–yet another mmmmm! moment. Getting hugs from True Pisces, Verrain, Lindyhopper, Zappo, and Joey Hemlock. The stimulating (!) conversation with DAVEW007, Zappo, and Verrain at dinner, and wishing I could hear well enough to talk to True Pisces and Lindyhopper. Seeing the greeting of Satan, and deciding with DAVEW007 and Zappo that, obviously, Satan could sit and eat, but not say anything  (he didn’t listen, though, he was talking to everyone). Zappo’s kindness in hailing me a cab after dinner so that I could get home. The people at the information desk at Penn Station, who answered an awful lot of questions put by someone who obviously didn’t know the first thing about the train system or getting around in New York.

Yes, True Pisces, you, me, and Verrain obviously have to get together more often. I’ll let you know the schedule for gaming at my friends’ as soon as I figure out which Wednesday we’re on. True Pisces, I promise to try the bubble tea so long as you promise not to make me drink it all if I don’t like it!

I spent a good part of today asleep, and I’m still feeling tired. I’m off to bed as soon as I finish this. G’night, all.

How could I forget RTFirefly? That’s a good example of why I’m reticent to start naming names.

Wow. Just… wow. I’ll need to recover before I recall.

Well, at the least, I spelled your name right.

Right. I’m home. I’ll post more tomorrow when I’m rested… my lovely husband (the one I spent the entire time talking about) wants to spend some… um… time with me.

For now, though, big huge thanks to Maeglin for hosting us with such grace … to my buddy Eonwe for driving … and of course to Billdo and the NYC crew for organizing.

I’ll get to the rest of you tomorrow. It’s late and I have to get up at 7:30 for work…

Ta!
