You guys be nice to Bibliovore! I met him on Saturday in London, and he’s a sweetheart, and I wish I’d gotten to talk to him more than I did. I don’t know most of you NY Dopers, but hi Biggirl! Take good care of him for me, or I’ll have to come kidnap him and drag him kicking and screaming to Chicago, which will be difficult because he’s bigger than me (and definitely manlier). And make him go to the 2nd Avenue Deli; at least there will be no worries about pork or alcohol!
Cheers, Eva! I’m sorry we didn’t get to chat much either, but it doen’t take long to find out what a lovely, lovely person you are.
I’m staying at a hostel in the Upper West Side, somewhere along Amsterdam Ave (I forget the exact address). I haven’t stayed in a hostel since my teenaged backpacking days, but it looks clean and safe enough, and I’ll use the cash I save on important things (like presents and more food!) I’m no big fan of Applebee’s myself, and I’m certainly not wasting my time and money there when NYC has so much more to offer.
(By the way, you’ll be horrified to learn that Applebee’s have a floating restaurant on the Nile in Cairo - it’s actually considered a pretty cool hangout by all the Egyptian teens.)
Sorry I didn’t get to this thread earlier. I saw it a few weeks ago, and then it dropped off the front page and out of my mind.
I’d be up for meeting for drinks and dinner on Saturday at 7:30 (and it’s always ish with the New Yorkers). I’ll see who I can round up and where we should go.
I’m in, unless I post on Friday that I’m out. Don’t see that happening, but I’ll cover my ass anyway.
YGBSM
Now I have to reconsider the arson thing.
I’m in, but I’m too timid to suggest a place so I’ll leave that up to Bildo or Cosmo.
Should I change my name to Zebro?
I’m iffy on this one - and the OxyBF is definitely no, he’s busy working on his grad school applications.
I might be able to make it if my studies go well over the rest of the week.
Thanks Guys, if this Saturday is too soon for everyone, we could always move it to next Saturday (the 13th). And as for locations, anywhere that’s got a friendly atmosphere is fine by me…
Well seeing as how I’m being dragged off to an office party tomorrow night and catching my flight right after work on Friday, it looks like toight will be my only chance to get some packing done.
So what’s the weather like? Should I bring my longjohns?
Any thoughts on a venue, Billdo?
it will be coolish (around 6-10ish c.) on the east coast, and a 'noreast’r is threatening for the weekend. bring your brolly and longjohns.
Hey Bibliovore, I’m working on figuring out an interesting place that will hold a group of us on a Saturday night, would be interesting to an English visitor and wheelchair-friendly. We’ve had a couple of ideas that haven’t quite come together. I should post something in a day or two.
In the meantime, I’ll e-mail you with my contact info so you can get in touch off-line.
Oh, and bring your longjohns, it’s been bitterly cold the past few days.
I suspect that I won’t make it, after all; I’m not too keen on slogging into (or, more importantly, home from) Manhattan in a few inches of the white crap. If the forecast suddenly changes course I’ll try to show, but for now, assume I ain’t coming.
OK Cats and Kittens, it looks like we’ve got a plan.
We’re meeting at 7:30 p.m. this Saturday, December 6 at Walkers, 16 N. Moore Street (at Varick). Take the 1 train to Franklin Street, and if you get out at the uptown end of the train, you should be right in front of the restaurant.
Please post or let me know if you’re coming, so I can make a reservation.
Me me!
Me also! Me too!
