NYC mini-dope?

I’ve booked my tickets, I’ve sorted out some accomodation, now all I need to do is enjoy the good company of my fellow dopers. Yes indeedy, I’m heading off to NYC on the 5th of December all on my lonesome, and I’d love to hook up with any Big Apple Dopers if you’re interested in a mini-dope before the main event in January. I’ll be in town for 8 days, and while I’ve got a huge list of things I want to see and do, I’d love to keep a day free for some eats, some drinks, and some serious socialising! So how about it? Anyone up for a party?

Certainly, but I think a good lot of us are mostly up for Fridays - due to that “work” thing. What dates are you around for any mayhaps we can all agree on something.

So that puts you here on December 5th through Dec 13th?

I’ll be arriving on the 5th, and leaving on the 14th. Any day you guys want to meet up between these two dates is fine by me.

I can’t do after-work or weekend get-togethers for the foreseeable future, but am always up for midday lunch or tea at the Algonquin.

Well that sounds very civilised Eve. I’ll make sure to pack a nice shirt - wouldn’t want to sully the ambience of the Rose Room with my scruffy backpacker chic. I’d be happy to meet up for a bite and a chat - I could use some friendly advice, and company of your calibre is never unwelcome

You can’t pack a gat in the Algonquin, either, you know . . .

Hah! I’d probably be frisked by security anyway. I don’t know why, but every time I put on a suit, I look disconcertingly like a Mafia hitman. So presuming they let me in the place, what day is good for you?

And for the rest of you guys, let me know if you’re free for a proper weekend knees-up.

Any weekday is good for me, anytime between 12 and 2. We’ll be closing our Feb. issue that week, so all I can manage is an hour, though.

Anyone want to join us? Billdo? Oxy? Ike?

Yes the Algonquin has a very nice sign that states in an elegant script “No Guns”

Actually I’ve never been to the Algonquin. Do they have good burgers?

They have excellent burgers, including a low-fat but yummy buffalo burger.

Wow, this thing sure dropped off the radar fast! I’ll just give it a little bumpity-bump to see if anyone else is interested…

I’m getting home December 11th. I’d love to be at one of these things.

Brilliant! Now can anyone think of a suitable location? Whatever’s convenient for you guys…

What do you like to eat? Besides books, that is.

Well, lets see. I’m quite partial to Italian, Thai, Chinese, Mexican, Japanese, Indian, seafood, pizza, pasta, steaks, burgers, hotdogs, noodles, sushi…

In fact there really isn’t much I don’t like except for pork and alcohol. And I have no problem meeting you guys in a bar or a pub, but I’ll be sticking to soda.

Can’t do brunch, but can do a Friday or Saturday (darn all you Ladies Who Lunch).
Oh, waitamainit!!! You don’t like pork and you don’t like alcohol? What are you, some kind of pinko weirdo?

Yes.
So if I suggest a tentative date of Saturday the 6th, how many of you would be able to make it? Say around 7.30ish? I’ll have to leave the venue to you guys, but let me know if the the time is convenient…

I should be able to attend.
Where in town is your hotel located. East, West? Uptown/Downtown?
Oh there’s a new Applebee’s near my office, we could go and BURN IT DOWN!!!*

*not advocating actuall arson but something must be done about those things.

Guhh the one on 42nd between 7th and 8th is so horrid – music blasting in your face and stupid old-fashioned bicycles on the walls. I can’t believe these tourists who eat there when 9th Avenue alone has about 65 better restaurants than their hometowns do.
