Thank you, thank you, thank you!
Boise plays tonight , too early to get the max points.
Another 26 game week. Here’s the current standings for the league:

9 Labrador Deceiver 2085 0 116-93
I’m not setting the world on fire, but I did post the best score last week. First time this season.
And my upset special of the week…
Penn State at home over Michigan.
It’s getting to be “win one for the Gipper” time up there, and Joe Pa deserves at least one more big win. Hope he gets it this week.
I don’t think beating Michigan at home is a big win for JoePa. Beating the Bucknutts would be a much bigger win.
5th place, myeh, I can take some solace that I have the highest score that has been dropped.
Proud, but gloating quietly
Will not be Joe Pa’s week…
Thanks to Navy for putting a smile on my face, even if I didn’t pick’em
The difference between the top 5 is contracting, 37 points going into this weekend, and now only 13 points between 1st and 5th.
Oak is trying to make a move, having the best score in each of the last two weeks.
I would like to point that I would be leading if all weeks were being counted. I think that might be an advantage in the last week of the season as there won’t be that many games in Week 14.
(Beasley): I’m just glad this ain’t for money. :o
Oak’s big ole bag of hot air is worth something, isn’t it?
Sure thing. Just not to me. I do have a week (#7) that I can brag on if it ever comes up. But I must bow to you guys for better predictions.
Several guys are just playing the right side of the picks, all the favs. I fell behind and have to take risks to catch up. My upset picks have lost some close games, but a loss is a loss. It is hard to catch up. Especially when I am from Michigan and both Michigan and MSU lost.
psst, Gonzo, being a homer is not in the rules.
Be that as it may, I picked both of those this week…
I do have one problem with this scoring, and others like it.
This week there was 26 games. is picking the biggest lock on the board worth 26 times tossup pick?
IMO, NO.
I think a better system is to start at 11 points and go to 36 points (or however many games there are)
Basically, that gives the picker 10 points bonus per correct pick.
The TCU/UNLV was picked as from 23-26 biggest lock on the board. Fair enough, it was my biggest lock.
But I was the only player that went against the grain with my Tulsa pick over Notre Dame. however, I wasn’t rewarded with many points (1).
Participant The Next Percy Harvin has the best W/L record. But he is only in 3rd place (overall). So he would benefit the most in my formula.
Interesting point on the scoring. If there’s interest in doing this again next year, I’d be willing to talk about tweaking the scoring if Yahoo allows it.
32 games to pick this week.
And Oak’s Official Upset of the Week is…
Utah at home over TCU
Not that I am necessarily against your scoring proposal, but what you were really rewarded for in that game was everyone else missing a game they put a lot of points on. It is true that you could have picked Notre Dame and put 1 point on them and still gotten most of that advantage. Although when you look at how close the scores are (top five all within 13 points) those two extra points for picking Tulsa instead of ND might really help you.
There are plenty of games I am ambivalent about because I think they could go either way. Florida-Georgia from last week for instance. I have to pick the Gators cause they are my team, but I knew how bad both teams are and I knew it could go either way (ended up coming down to a field goal in overtime, so I was right about that) so I only put two points on UF. Someone very nearly as skilled at picking that game, could have picked UGA, put two points on them, and almost been right. So since they were almost as right as me, maybe there should not be a huge gap in points awarded for that game.
Your way could definitely be fun as well, but I kind of like how important assigning points is in this system, whereas in your system just picking the right team greatly increases in value.
Utah hasn’t lost at home since Sept 2007—TCU is the Real Deal, but my $$$ is on the Utes…
(This is one of the biggest sporting events in Utah’s history, the excitement in Salt Lake is on par with the 2002 Winter Olympics or the Jazz’s two NBA Championship appearances)
If Utah wins out, and Alabama is a one-loss SEC Champion, we might see a rematch for all the marbles in January…
Great. I doomed both teams with one line on a message board.
Worse, I forgot to do my picks last night. Will do them after work today, and get the all important Upset Special posted as well.
30 games to pick this week. Note to self: Definitely need to reduce the number of games per week next year. Maybe go with just Top 25 and SEC or something.
And the moment you’ve all been waiting for, Oak’s Upset Special of the Week is…
North Carolina at home over Virginia Tech.
I am having a bad week. Hope everyone else is too.
And did anyone pick Wisconsin to score the most points this week? FTR, I thought I did pretty well with my Boise St pick (and their 52 points last night). But Wisconsin beat that by 31. LOL At least I did pick the Badgers to win.
What the hell is wrong with Texas?
