If you’re the 2008 Detroit Lions, I’m the 2008 St. Louis Rams.
Don’t worry.

My only problem with rookies is that they always end up winning:)
But seriously, just learn how to draft. Remember its about relative scarcity. Some positions(say QBs) score more points, but if that position is pretty deep, you might go for a higher ranked lower scoring position(say TE) first knowing there will be plenty of QBs left next round. Of course this is a 2 QB league so that specific example might not apply.
Oh, and never never never ever take a kicker before the last round. Sometimes it might be tempting. Just don’t do it.
Do a few mock drafts on ESPN or Yahoo They’re free and you can get a good idea of where certain players will go. However, be prepared to run across an occasional joker who might take a kicker with a first round pick. You’ll also notice a lot of people leaving in the later rounds. Still, I try to find some active mock drafts, usually by drafting during weekends. I can usually find a 12 team draft that fills up.
We’re up to eight teams now, with four spots still open…
Two Mannings, One Cup. Points for receptions, completions, two QBs - yikes, there will be some high-scoring games.
Return yards is 1 yard=1point? Am I reading that right? Is that what you meant to do?
I’ll have fun with any set of rules, but realize that means DST will be scoring well over 100 points a game. A 50 yard punt return for a TD would be 56 points!!!, yet a 50 yard rushing TD worth 11!! The league will be decided almost by DST alone with everything else as a side show. I’m all for bringing on the craziness, but I think that might have been an error.
How are we on recruits?
Yikes! Good catch. That was an error. Changed it to 10 yards = 1 point.
If you or anyone else finds other errors or dumb moves, please let me know so I can fix it prior to the draft.
We’ve got 8 teams now, room for 4 more.
FYI: 1 point for a QB completion is going to strongly skew the scores beyond recognition, to the point of making most other positions’ contributions moot. I highly recommend going with standard scoring metrics, and making additions to that in a very calculated way, rather than just clicking off a bunch of categories. This is even more important in a league with a number of rookies, because it negates the usefulness of every single advice column, article or thread people might read.
I’m in. We are The Unrelated Siblings.
I really got trounced last year in the Big League, so this year I’m going to try my hand at participating in two leagues to see what I can do.
Maybe I can suck twice as much. Hey, you roll the dice, you take your chances.
I’d second this as well. Standard scoring metrics are standard for a reason
Probably the main stat that some leagues add that isn’t necessarily standard is points-per-reception, which tends to make the RB position a bit trickier (Matt Forte might be a bit more valuable than he would be otherwise, for example - seems like he has 50 catches every year).
I don’t know. I think PPR is a fun twist on standard scoring. Points per completion and PPR together might be a bit much, and I don’t really know how PPC combined with the QB scarcity of a 2QB league is going to change things but I am open to giving it a shot. That said I wouldn’t be against taking PPC out, but want to lobby to keep PPR in.
Oh, I wasn’t lobbying against PPR - just noting that the RB position will be a bit different vs a league that doesn’t have PPR…um, wait, no! Forget I said that, there’s no difference at all! Let’s must move on, shall we?
Hey Oak, would you mind handing out the draft order in the next couple of days? I haven’t done a 2 QB league before and I want to try a couple of mocks from the position I will be drafting before the draft.
Also, to other folks out there the league still has some spots open!
Crap, nevermind. I just noticed that I won’t be able to make the draft. My parents are coming to town that night. Well that kind of sucks.
At the moment, we have 9 players. We have room for three more, but we absolutely have to have an even number or it will not allow us to hold the draft. I’ll post the draft order as soon as it is available…unless it is not determined until the night of the draft. I don’t remember how that works…
I don’t suppose there is any chance of me talking you into pushing the draft back a day is there?
I hate auto drafting.
Pushing back one day would be fine by me.
Soooo… are we now saying the draft will be Friday, Sep 2 @ 2130 EDT?
Yahoo just sent me a reminder that it’s happening tomorrow. Will Oak reset the date? Stay tuned…
Sorry, I just saw the question. My general inclination is not to move the draft at this late date. However, at the moment, we only have 10 teams, with room for two more but we have to have an even number of teams or the draft won’t work.
I’m willing to shift the draft to Friday if and only if we get unanimous consent from all players posted here prior to one hour before the originally scheduled draft time. Please include the team name if you vote to change the draft, for easier tabulation. If that happens, I will post here that the draft has been postponed by unanimous consent. Otherwise, we go as scheduled. I think that’s as fair as I can be under the circumstances.
More than fair. I am sorry to even have to ask.
I am Flying Megashark on there.
