Obama roots for the Steelers-omigod: RACISM!!!!

Obama should root for the underdog…

Nitpick - four out of five (soon six). The victory in Super Bowl XIV shouldn’t count as an eighties win since it closed out the 1979 season.

Because…???

Ooh, me! I have hated the Steelers since November 28, 1976, when they beat my Bengals 7-3 in the first pro football game I ever watched. I swore enmity for life. I’m no longer the Manichean 9-year-old I was then, but I find I can’t un-hate the bastards.

Anyone is free to question my mental balance at this point. After all, I root for the Bengals

Eh. A fan is a fan. I’ll question your mental balance when you start raising bail money for them.

[del]Are there any teams you like?[/del] Are there any teams that haven’t played the Bengals?

I thought football was evil and bad for the brains of the players…why is Obama a fan of ANY football team???

-XT

Well, they’re not owned by a shithead named Bidwell for starters.

Don’t forget the San Francisco 49ers.

My 10 year old son loves the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Does this mean he is secretly black or quietly racist? I’m so confused.

Who knew that Arizona actually had a football team? WTH is wrong with that scenario. I picture any sport in AZ to be lawn bowling, golf cart races and geritol chugging.

( I keed. I keed.)

I’m picking the Steelers because they drafted midseason a guy from the Lions who went from the crummiest team EVAR (0-16, baby) to being the THUPERBOWL. I cannot remember his name, but there is either an O’ or a Mc involved with his name.

But they get added back in if they hire a new replacement black head coach, right? I guess the same would apply to the Browns.

(You have no idea how hard it is to not type Brahnies.)

BELIEVE

Yes, you are right about Super Bowl XIV. I wrongly included it in the 80s. Give me a break though, I was not yet two when the cry of ‘One for the thumb!’ began. But it was one of my first sentences.

Are they keeping Mike Singletary? I hadn’t heard, being so preoccupied with the Steelers what the coaching situation of the 49ers was going to be, but yes, you’re right. Obama is also a 49ers fan.

They’re kind of a franchise of the Steelers at this point. Much as we once loved Whisenhunt, rumor has it that he is now a … well, you can’t say that word on DVE.

Are you referring to Sean McHugh? They got him after he was released by the Lions right before the start of the regular season.

There’s already asshats on the Freepers who CLAIM to be die-hard Stiller fans who are now rooting for the Cardinals, since Obama is rooting for the black and gold. Traitors! Art and Myron are spinning in their graves!!!

When Dan was supporting Obama, they had fans throwing away their Steelers swag here, and making a big production of it-fuckers. Fuck every last one of them-send 'em all to Cleveland.

If Bush had rooted for the Steelers, would I have given two shits? Fuck NO!!! In fact, it would at least have given him SOME brownie points.

That’s the guy.

Of course Obama roots for the Steelers! As we all surely recall, Pittsburgh loves him so much that they carve his initials on the faces of out-of-towners.

Hell, if I were president and had a choice between rooting for Pittsburgh or Arizona, I wouldn’t think twice about it. “Hmmm… Pittsburgh is only a short hop from D.C., and it would curry favor in a large swing state… On the other hand, if I make a big deal out of rooting for the Cardinals, I might be expected to go to Arizona. Don’t they have a lot of scorpions out there?”

No thanks. Speaking for my fellow Clevelanders (who voted bigtime for Obama), I want to make it clear that we don’t want 'em either.

Hey, give me a break, we’re talking childhood trauma here…

So, Guin, are we supposed to believe that you were just reading through the comment section of ProFootballtalk.com, were shocked and appalled that people were saying stupid things (on the internet, of all places!) and came here in stunned outrage? Or is it more accurate to say that this is second- or third-hand outrage – that someone else found this and passed it on and they passed it on and finally you got it and posted it here?
I’m fairly sure it’s the latter, so I have a completely serious question: Why?

What exactly is the point you’re trying to make here? You obviously already know that there are political extremist idiots on all sides. You obviously already know that everyone here already knows that, too. So what exactly is to be gained here?

Is it just some sort of political team-affiliation thing: some conservative somewhere says something stupid, and you take this as a validation of your own politics? Were you hoping to get plaudits for being the first person here with a new meme?

The Steelers in that era dispensed trauma to lots of people - especially opposing offensive squads. Any children harmed were just not-so-innocent bystanders.

Worse than scorpions. There are zombies in Arizona.

On the other hand, if you got to pick whether you’d prefer to go to Pittsburgh or Phoenix this time of year…

FWIW, you’re the who brought up conservative bashing. Guin never mentioned conservatives or Republicans; she’s merely bashing stupid people. If you want to claim them for your side, that’s your business.
