The sequence doesn’t happen all that often, so the first couple of times I brushed it off as a fluke. now it’s clearly happening every time.
To wit: if someone replies to one of my posts while I’m still on the Board, I get a popup alert in the lower right corner of my screen. Used to was, I would click on that and it would take me to that response. Now, it opens a new, blank browser instance – not just a new tab, but a whole new browser window, with my default browser screen showing.
I’m on Windows 10, browser Opera.
This is not a big deal, by the way, I can easily get out of it, but I thought it might be symptomatic of something more serious than it appears to be. This has been happening for, I guess, a few months now.
I’ve never seen that behavior. I get an alert in the top-right corner for site notifications on my avatar picture. Is this an Opera thing, or maybe the theme you picked?
I also get a little number pop up on my avatar to show the number of responses, just like when come back onto the site. Normally this would be a little 1 when I get a new response while I’m still here. I think this is what @Atamasama was referring to.
Just to help in the troubleshooting, I’ll follow up on @Atamasama 's question: what theme are you using? A lot of the themes are poorly or not at all supported in modern Discourse, and can be a source of many a glitch, although normally more chronic than occasional.
In case you don’t remember off the top of your head how to get there:
Click on your Avatar → Profile → Preferences → Interface → Theme
Okay, what would I be checking for? Live Notifications? Currently that is disabled.
p.s. your message triggered my little mystery notification, but it only lasts for a couple of seconds (which I forgot) and I was too slow off the mark. I’ll try to be more alert.
