Odd Q's about Powerpuff Girls + Sam. Jack

Poweruff Girls:

  1. What was Gendy tartakovsky smoking when he thought this show up? (joke)

  2. Do the RowdyTuff Boys show up again? I loved them! But are they only in their creation episode? It seems like a big waste not to have them back.

  3. Whats the deal with “Him”? Is there a backstory? I’ve not seen that episode.

Samurai Jack: Anyone have and apisode summary? There is so much I’ve missed, since I didn’t have Cartoon network till recently.

TV Tome has a good episode guide for Samurai Jack. Lots of spoilers.
How involved in Genndy in the PPG? When they first appeared on SGC2C he put Dexter in the contest and it was Craig McCracken who entered the PPG and won when he wore the silly swimming outfit. I see

… no Genndy at TV Tome and he’s only listed as a director at IMDb.
stoopid early submit!

Is it “Him”? I used to think the character was called that, but have since seen it as “Mim” on closed-captioning, and now I’m not so sure…

Mim? But I was sure they called it Him…

It’s definitely Him:
“Him, an incredibly evil Townsville villain, has trapped the whole of Townsville in a computer game just to relieve his boredom.” Just google the Cartoon Network website for any number of references.

Him is definitely supposed to be called “Him”. Him only gets a pronoun since you’re not allowed to say evil words like “the devil” or “satan” on children’s programming. Okay, you can get away with it sometimes but it’s one of those things that the network censors tend to object to and make uptight parents call in so why not make a joke of it?

I watch more of this show that I ever expected to due to my kids, but I enjoy it, too.

  • I think McCracken is the acknowledged creator of PPG’s, not Tartakovsky (sp?) - he did Dexter’s Lab and SamJack. Although I think they were roommates in college, so it must get blurry.

  • RowdyRuff (not Tough) boys were a one-ep thing, AFAIK. But who knows, they may come back.

  • Him - have only caught partial episodes featuring…er…him.

Favorite episode - Meet the Beat-alls. Love the Beatles theme, the plot which uses a ton of Beatles lore and the fact that much of the dialogue is Beatles lyrics. All while still being a funny PPG episode.

I thought that the whole deal with “Him” was the old idea of the evil being so terrible that everyone is afraid to say his name. (ie, “Speak of the devil, and out he’ll come.”)

Re: Closed Captioning.

If you’ve ever been in a bar or restaurant or some other venue that’s using CC, you’ll know that they mispell things quite frequently.

As already mentioned, McCracken came up with the idea. The original cartoon was actually called “The Whoop-Ass Girls.” Instead of Chemical X, the professor drops a can of whoop ass into the concoction. This original episode (demo, or whatever one calls these things) is on the Powerpuff Girls DVD. (Not the movie DVD, but the one with the Cartoon Network episodes.)

I’ve never seen the Rowdy Ruff boys return, but I haven’t seen all of this past season yet.

Not really. He’s just supposed to be Townsville’s most evil villain, so evil you can’t say his name, as has been mentioned. Plus he’s got this lovely effeminate side (the episode with him doing aerobics some workout video was precious!)

Although Genndy works close with Craig on the show, Craig created the PPGs. It was Cartoon Network who balked at having Satan referred to by name. And it is most definately “Him.”

It’s always a good night when I can see Satan on both Powerpuff Girls* and South Park.
