Typically when going through old threads the old smilie code is changed into text. But in the first thread Sweet Sue has a smilie. Ok I can deal with that. But it’s a type of smilie I’ve never seen? Looks like a smilie with arms or really long ear hair. New smilie? Old smilie no longer in use?

Just for future reference, it’s not old threads that have screwey coding, it’s old posts. If you’ll look closer, you’ll notice that the Infamous Thread Number One was bumped (relatively) recently, so it contains some new posts as well as old. That’s why you can see Sweet Sue’s smilie at all.

We’ve never been big fans of a posting style that consists of hit-and-run pictographs.
Throw in some attacks, like in this thread and you have a good candidate for banishment.
As for why we don’t have more smilies, we’ve been more than a little bit preoccupied with more pressing matters of late, compliments of our unfriendly neighborhood cracker. We’ll get to 'em when we can.

My posts were nice and friendly, mostly just a line to bolster a poster, sometimes a link to a “wedding gift” or a joke of some kind.
I don’t come here to insult people or tear them down.
The thread you site, however was an attack on ME.
And it was wrong from the word go. My attacker, besides calling me worm excrement and insisting I leave, completely falsified his data. He said “every one of your 12 posts to date is nonsensical garbage.” But I had over 140 posts at that point. They can’t all be gems, but even the ones he cited were pleasant and well intended. The vast majority of the OP posters liked them.
And after a dozen people piled on to vilify me, I made ONE slightly off-color remark.
Not even close to any of the insults that people had posted about me.
FYI: post count is applied retroactively. Just because you see 145 posts there does not mean that there were more than 12 posts at that point in time.
In fact, given that there were 6 posts in that thread, plus reference to more being posted after the OP, the actual count as of the OP must have been less than 140 (and 12 pretty much jives with my memory).
Just a heads up on how the Board counts things…
Sweet Sue, you registered under that name on 10/01/2000. neuroman’s pit thread was started on 10/01/2000. Are you actually claiming that you made over 140 posts the same day you registered?
Which explains, of course, the bizarre ad hominem against MysterEcks, who was actually defending you.
Sorry about the post count confusion, I had no idea TubaDiva was going to dig back nearly a year to find something to hang on me.
But the basic complaint stands. She is trying to make me out as the bad guy on a thread where I was attacked.
Chronos - As for my “ad hominem” (which I hope you’ll be fair enough to admit is mild for the pit) I have to admit that I didn’t think MysterEcks was defending me. I was really hurt by that entire thread and didn’t feel like reading very much of it. I had just started at the board and had done nothing wrong and people were piling on me. His “defense” started with “she doesn’t seem to add much” and I jumped to the conclusion he was just one more of the typical pitizens. Now, of course, I see he was defending me with faint praise.
As to my “terrible” first “hit and run threads” (which I now see were all done when I was finding my voice as it were):
39533 - on a test thread - enough said!
40317 - a question on smilies, so I used myself as an example.
40326 - “What Are Great Ball Player Names” - I answered “Babe”
40361 - on a practice post thread
40486 - OP was on sigs, so I was showing mine off.

There was an early strange complaint about me that my picture was an “abuse of bandwidth”, which it appears was due to a misconception, since it’s less than plenty of other people’s “closing lines” and stock comments.
This was discussed somewhere (I suppose I have to look that up too? Maybe next time.)
At any rate, Chronos, now that you have entered the debate here, I appeal to you, personally. You have been lauded on a recent thread as being analytical, thorough, and fair:
Will you do a real search of a better sample of my 140 threads and find out if I am the scum that must be stopped, that is out to destroy the board.
Or just an ordinary poster, perhaps with not much to say, but light-hearted and trying to join in in an entertaining way.
I don’t please everyone, but neither do any of my detractors, and lord knows it hasn’t slowed any of them down.
I will leave if you say I must. It’s up to you.
One of the administrators (whose word has always counted for more than mine own) already did say that you must. Now, it’s possible that that was an unjust decision, and it’s likewise possible that you did not deserve to be banned the first time. In that case, the proper procedure is to e-mail one or more administrators, and politely ask that your priveliges be reinstated. If you wish for a fresh start with a new name, that can also be requested. To my knowledge, however, you have not done this, and instead registered a new name of your own initiative. It is debateable whether you broke any of our rules in your previous incarnation of Sweet Sue, but it is unambiguous that you have since broken one of our rules by registering a new screen name.
Damn…I’ve become a Bone Of Contention in a thread I wasn’t even in. Cultural icon status can’t be far behind.

Sort of a Catch-22, isn’t it? I doesn’t seem to me that she was banned at all. I also can’t see that she ever did anything wrong, and she’s currently only using one name, and TubaDiva seems to know this. What I can see though is that she shouldn’t have put Chronos on the spot like that. He’s not a mod, so his view doesn’t count, and even if he were, and he sided against Tuba he could be banned for disloyalty.
