See, except for knowing how to get online I’m pretty tech ignorant. I don’t own a cell phone. When my landline touchtone phone went dead mumble, mumble, six, years ago, I didn’t replace it and have been making do with a rotary dial phone. Anyone else remember them?
Today my sister helped me pick out a new touchtone, and she even installed it for me. So now I newfangled things like an answering machine, and caller ID
Cupcakes, I thought I was the only human in existence without a cell phone; nice to know I’m not alone. But I have made it past rotary…
Worked with soccer stuff this afternoon, and I’ll be out there Saturday from 8am to 3pm or so. Builder just admitted that he screwed up on the schedule and nothing much will be taking place next week, so I can get out of the house some.
Need to get to bed now cause 6:30am is coming around soon…
I remember when I was in high school and my family was always years behind my classmates’ families, technology-wise. I remember envying people whose families had touch-tone phones. Why? Because I’d somehow gotten ahold of a list printed off the internet (my family didn’t have the internet at home either) of songs you could play on a touch-tone phone by pressing the buttons to get different notes.
I was a weird kid.
Maybe it’s a good thing I never did try that out. Might’ve dialed some random person accidentally.
It seems to me that many touch-tone phones only have about three notes on them anyway. Though I can still get some tunes out of those notes. I can do the opening of the last movement of Dvorak’s 8th Symphony, for example.
I was planning to sleep in today, but when I woke to pee, I suddenly remembered that we hadn’t ordered our pellets yet and the sale ends some time this month. Plus they won’t take phone orders - you have to order and pay in person. A pain in the patoot, but we save a lot of $$$.
So I got up and found the postcard - we’ve got till Weds, but I’d like to get it done this weekend if we can. Anyway, the panic woke me and there’s no way I’ll fall back to sleep, so I’ve tended to the critters, loaded the dishwasher, and wiped down the kitchen counters like certain other people were supposed to last night. Words will be had when they wake.
We plan to mow today - with luck, rain will hold off. From the looks of weather radar, we’ve got a few hours, so that’s good. **FCD **also wants to clean the house - as in he wants *us *to clean the house. Plus, of course, laundry day.
The current forecast is for 80% chance of t-boomers tomorrow - you know, the day we have tickets for the ballgame. Yeah.
**Cupcakes **- I can’t believe the phone company still supports rotary phones! There was one in this house when we moved in and it worked for a while, then it didn’t (tho that might have been when we got VOIP.) You could still get incoming calls - you just couldn’t dial. So I got rid of it. I’m kinda sorry now that I did.
Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 72 Amurrkin out and partly cloudy, dark actually, with a predicted high of 90 and mostly cloudy for the day but with only a twenty percent of rain/tstorms/apocalypse. Go figure. Today’s plans are attendin’ the trainin’ session over to the church house this mornin’ and makin’ Brunswick Stew this afternoon. Since the poke and chikin are already ground up, this will involve the mixin’ up of all the ingredients and cookin’ in the big slow cooker for a few hours. This is a kinda slacker version of Brunswick Stew, but it’s good.
If one really wanted to be low tech, one could have a butler dressed if full livery ridin’ around in a horse and carriage deliverin’ handwritten notes (quill and ink) all over town.
Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then purtification and the donnin’ of goin’ about the public clothes must occur. Such bother!
Looking like a good day to take shooting irons out to Swan Creek and lay some lead downrange. I’ve got a brand new Ruger 10/.22, bought in May and never shot yet, and an awful lot of ammo for it, so maybe. Not to mention I ought to relieve the springs in several M&P9 and M&P15 magazines, if only for a short while.
Irk and no one in the building but me so far. I wouldn’t care if it stays quiet but it won’t. I have been selling as much in four hours as two people in 8 each Sat. That is non stop.
My Uncle had a rotary phone, which suddenly stopped working last year sometime. He called out the phone company, and the guy they sent went to unplug it from the wall, only to discover that there was no plug, it was wired in. He’d not only never seen that before, he didn’t know it was possible. Comedy ensued. They wound up trying to find the oldest guy in the company to come round and wire in a phone socket so they could actually fit a new phone, while all the young guys stared at ye ancient relic. I think he has a boring [del]old[/del] touchtone one now.
Anyway, I’m back from irk; got an hour and a half and I need to head back out to other irk. Bleh.
There’s something seriously wrong about having to tell 2 thirty somethings to clean up after themselves when they use the kitchen. When I got up this morning, the stove was dirty and there were dried-on drops of ice cream on the counter. We just came back from erranding, and there are scrambled eggs and macaroni in the sink strainers. I went downstairs and told both of them what I expected. My SIL came up and walked past the sink TWICE!! Eggs and mac still in there.
Oh, and he can’t dust because he has asthma. And he can’t do yard work because he has asthma. But he can spend all day in the basement playing video games in a room with 3 cats and a dog - that doesn’t affect his asthma…
We thought we were doing them a favor, giving them a place to live so they could save for their own house. It’s been nearly 3 months. He still doesn’t have a job. His former boss said he can come back when the next person quits… whenever that will be. So he sits on his ass playing basketball on his gaming console. Meanwhile, we feed them, we haven’t asked them to contribute towards utilities because they’ve got phone and car and insurance bills.
I can’t believe my daughter has hitched herself to 2 such losers in a row. I’m convinced she feels the need to “save” guys - especially when I look at who she’s dated since high school.
Rant over.
On the plus side, mowage is done. By me and FCD, because asthma.
Mooommm I’m becoming convinced that personal computers and gaming devices are the bane of the modern world. Maybe the question is: what can you do to contribute, given your physical limitations? Bathrooms? Mail sorting? Dishes every night? I’m certain there is some chore that can be found that will not trigger his asthma.
swampy silly bear. Everyone knows the butler doesn’t hand deliver the notes. It’s the footman!
I’m not quite sure I’m ready to face the day, but it’s cloudy instead of bright and hot, so I’m willing to at least consider my options. Onwards!
