Office 10/29--no thread yet?

What was listed under Erin’s name on the board? “Orphan”?

Wait, wait, wait… Was Oscar dressed as Sara Palin!?

He was.

I didn’t get it until it was explained. I thought he was acting out “nose in a book.”

Kelly’s Leeloo costume was not flattering.

I said this last thread, but I’m liking the changes in Jim considering he’s got authority now. Some may argue it’s out of character for him, but I would disagree given his circumstances. I would, however, suggest that maybe Jim’s had some sort of briefing or preparation for the role he’s going to be playing their.

Where I work, people who aspire to; and eventually move up on the ladder are under much more scrutiny, and their attitude to the ones who were, up until recently, their “equals” definitely change. They change, (it’s a little creepy). When Jim got in Angela’s face, loudly stating that he wasn’t asking her opinion it seemed natural to me, even though he wouldn’t have done it before his life got a little crazier. Even some of the more subtle stuff seems familiar to me… It’s not as if I don’t see the ‘panic’ in their face when they’re first starting out. Now Jim’s got something to prove, and a family to think of, and he’s probably working a lot more than he has had to, (not just office related). He’s probably more high-strung than he’s ever been in his life, (of course Pam as well).

With this particular situation, he was reluctant to take any of Michael’s suggestions because, (arguably unlike Michael), Jim’s not receptive to advice. He may offer it but his ego’s to big with Mike to even consider anything out of the man’s mouth. The watch may have seemed arbitrary, but what would it have hurt? Salesman know they have to read, and cater their pitch to their ‘mark’,

The Andy thing wasn’t that bad. Well, it was at first. He was inappropriate, but acknowledged and apologized for it. To me, that made it a little more “sweet” than “creepy”.

The Andy thing also seems to indicate some Michael-like tendencies in loneliness. He was researching birthing coaches because he really does want that wife and kids.

That being said, I do like touches like Micheal’s struggles with being alone and not having friends, which explain why he tries so hard to be the likable boss at the office.

I couldn’t buy the idea that every single client Andy and Pam called on assumed they were a couple. Why would they think that?

I’m starting to like Michael again with this week and last week.

I mean, I always liked the comedy effect of the childish Michael. But I think they’re setting him up for a breaking point.

Last weeks speech by Michael - “What is so wrong with me?” speech was funny, but also poignant. I loved Phyllis’s quiet “Good luck, Michael.”

This week - Michael making fun of himself. It was nice to see Michael acting like a normal person - poking fun at himself, the office loving it and warming to him a bit. But then he abruptly takes a dark and sad turn - the bit about the cellphone salesman telling him he can add five friends, and Michael not being able to come up with that…I had exactly the reaction of the office. I went from laughing, to stunned silence, to feeling really sorry for Michael.

I like that they seem to be dialing down the “over-the-top, socially inept man-child Michael” to returning to a character that is fundamentally a terribly lonely guy. I hope they continue, I would love to see Michael have a few life moments and grow a bit as a character.

Well, the first time we see it it’s because Andy makes an overt gesture to bring up Pam’s pregnancy in a way that a father would. I think we’re meant to assume that he’s brought it up each time.

I’ve gone to dozens of costume parties in my day. Trust me, most “regular” people have lame-o costumes – I’m talking their already owned boot cut jeans, a tie-dye t-shirt and a $2 Peace sign necklace lame. Very few people go to the time, trouble and expense that the Dunder-Mifflin workers went to. IME, for every Oscar, you have twelve Jims.

Ryan going for the trendy “hot vampire” look was hysterical.

Anyway, I liked this episode. I thought it was kind of cute when Andy called “his” baby “soybean” and talked wistfully of having a family.

Halpert is getting better looking. It’s the hair, I guess.

Koi ARE expensive!

I’ve started it twice but kept getting interrupted.

Was anybody else afraid that the kids would have to get their Halloween candy out of Michael’s box?

No, you are not the only one who thought that.

If by “afraid” you mean “hoping”.

The only thing I hate about the Halloween episodes is that they don’t spend enough time showing the actual costumes! I hate when it’s just an opening gag, I want to see more of Oscar dressed as Sarah Dammit!

The Leeloo costume wasn’t flattering on Mila Jovovich either. It’s a stupid costume. Looking at the screencap from “Koi Pond”, I’d say Kelly’s version is actually an improvement on the original movie costume because it got rid of the band around the waist and the strip down the front is thinner. Kelly has a reasonably good figure and pulls the look off about as well as anyone could.

The first Halloween episode was on in reruns last night, and most of the staff had very basic costumes. Jim was of course three hole punched paper, it looked like most of the women were cats (basically cat ear headbands plus makeup nose and whiskers), Oscar seemed to be in generic drag with a wig and dress, Creed had on a vampire cape…pretty much your usual low-budget Halloween costumes. Dwight announces that he’d spent over $100 on his Sith Lord costume, but it was just a cape, red light sabre, and a bit of makeup.

I imagine that since then some members of the staff have started competing with each other to have the best costumes. Dwight, Andy, and Kelly definitely seem the type to do this.

Well also it was a spooky warehouse instead of just an office party. If it was just at the office, they may not have tried so hard. But since they were having kids going through, maybe they went a bit more than usual.

this show has very funny characters and some very fun moments but…I don’t know about the rest of you, but if I fell in a koi pond, I would probably not drive back to work soaking wet. I would probably simply drive home and change and THEN go back to work.

In my opinion, these completely unbelievable occurances hurt this show and make it second rate when it could be up there with the best.

ps Dwight’s “enemy of my friend/enemy” speech was brilliant.

Am I the only one to notice the blood bag Creed has is probably the same one he stole last season from the blood drive van?

Even the webisodes:

it plays the whole thing, (with ads), they often just play a little at a time, which is stupid.

Teeth, dryness & slapping have now become the new Hotness!

I finally got to see the whole episode- yeah, it’s good to see Jim get his comeuppance & then Michael befriend him.
The look on Michael’s face at the realization “Jim is jealous of me!” really was the turning point.

I thought Pam was still being a bitch when she "meh"ed Andy’s mention of Erin, but she really redeemed herself when she went to bat for Andy.
