You’ve conflated two different referenda. The Charlottetown Accord was defeated (54.3% No/45.7% Yes), and this was arguably a rebuke to Quebec (although it was defeated in Quebec as well). The referendum that went 50.4% “Stay In Canada” was held only in Quebec.
This is waaaaay closer nationally than I thought it would be. And despite my canvassing, phonebanking, contributing and voting, looks like Ohio will be going to Trump after all.
Ugh ugh ugh.
“What, there’s an iceberg ahead? Well, let’s see if we can ram straight into it!”
I feel like we’re all stuck on the Titanic, and a drunken blowhard is steering the ship.
Fuck that. I expect a case of Johnny Walker Blue and an especially talented hooker (I like tap-dancing and stand-up comedy.) It’s the least you can do.![]()
It seems obvious now that a lot of polls leading up to this election have been wrong, Rush Limbaugh basically predicted this on his show. Whether Trump wins or not I think a lot of posters here are going to have to eat their words about some imagined blowout win for Hillary.
Well, the front fell off.
Well, this is certainly turning out to be a nail-biter.
bites nails
Guess I’ll break out the scotch to go with my tasty fingernail snack.
To the rest of the world:
I’m sorry. We’re Americans. We do weird shit, like electing insane idiots, just for the hell of it sometimes.
Watching from Canada. My flabber is totally gasted…
I’m sure she’ll take great solace in that when Trump and his fellow monsters turn the fucking Handmaid’s Tale into a reality.
Not now, man. We’re grieving here.
Again (see my last post): so where are the higher ideals all hanging out at? Why wouldn’t it work the other way-“Oh yeah Mr. Pollster Trump has my vote!”----at the actual voting booth----“I can’t vote for that idiot…”
Damn, we’ve got 4 years of Rudy as AG of the US, and Newt as SoS. This country is so screwed.
Bet Putin is happy as hell.
Especially if it sends the presidential election to Congress for the first time in 192 years. If that happens not only would Trump still end up winding we’d also have to put up with 2 month more of this election. And Kaine could end up his Vice-President.
A wave hit it?
It’s not going to be any easier raising a son.
I’ve been asking myself that since Ronald Reagan was elected.
Yeah, I think she’ll probably hold it.
I’m sorry, but no way do I believe a bunch of urban black people voted for Trump. But they still have a number of unreported precincts so I’m holding out that there are just a lot of votes in Detroit that are still out.
I seem to remember a poll that clocked Detroit residents at 0% for Trump.
It’s cool. I’m in Europe.
Oh, wait. Crap.
Interestingly, even though the NYT gives Trump a 64% chance of winning the presidency right now, they expect a Clinton popular vote win of about 2 points. If that happens, we’ll have some some furious Democrats on our hands.
People underestimate how much vitriol directed at the opponents galvanizes the opposition.
