* * * ! Official 2016 US Presidential Election Day Thread ! * * *

He’s facing 3 lawsuits, pretty sure they’re all civil though one is being led by the N.Y. Attorney General.

It’s a maybe.:dubious: Not like with Nader and Florida, tho.

It’s a class action against Trump University. I think Trump will be testifying (or maybe has to testify).

The blame there doesn’t lie with the third-party voters, though. It lies with the Republican Party, for trotting out 736 potential candidates, none of whom were better than Trump, and to the Democratic Party, for nominating the least charismatic candidate imaginable.

Well that’s a relief! I’d begun to worry that the Baby Boomers would miss out on an opportunity to brutally fuck over their children and grandchildren one more time!

(For conservative voter opinions on those who can’t afford health care: )

This video just pointed out to me seems like a good bit of evidence to me. Not to mention the people who’ve already argued that the ACA should just be eliminated with nothing to replace it.

Mitch McConnell has already said that they will immediately repeal Obamacare.

President Johnson was a con artist, but they would move this to debates …

President Johnson did have this to say though: “Yesterday is not ours to recover, but tomorrow is ours to win or lose”.

God help us.
I mean that .
God…help us.

Really? Are you sure you’re not still in the denial phase?

Boy I was upset last night as the returns started coming in and people started to panic. I dislike Trump pretty intensely on a personal level and I can’t see him being a good president. I suppose Pence and maybe Ryan can work to keep him in line but that would mean a pretty right wing agenda, but hopefully adults will be in charge. I know a lot of Republicans have repudiated Trump, but it might be better for the country if those with experience work with Trump so he doesn’t pick really bad people

I am surprised that Clinton chose to concede so quickly rather than challenge some results. She didn’t lose by that much in several states. I guess she felt it was better for the country

Point out even one adult who would be in charge.

Quickly? She wasn’t close to automatic recount in any meaningful State. She didn’t give her speech until today. If she had quixoticly challenged a bunch of results it would have been embarrassing.

You may not agree with his views but there is nothing wrong with Paul Ryan. As Speaker of the House, he is one of the most powerful people in Washington and 3rd in line for the presidency. He has never been a strong Trump supporter but I am confident he will work hard to build some type of functional working relationship with him. Trump will have to as well because he is going to get anything done without the support of Congress, even a Republican one.

As I have said before, I still don’t think Trump wants to really be President. He wants to be Head of State and leave the details to others.

most of my apprehension comes from mr trump being a loose cannon. with mccain or romney they at least were in it for their vision of the country. bush/cheney were in it for the oil. i knew if they got in we would be in iraq somehow within a year or 2 and we were.

with mr trump we know he is in it for him and him alone. we don’t know what form that will take so it is really, really, scary. we can only hope that the senate and house can limit the damage.

i believe the senate outcomes yesterday were with a clinton win in mind.

As I understand it, most of the incumbents in Congress won their races right? So the desire for change mostly seemed to go against the presidency and not Congress. The trouble with people wanting change, especially on the right and especially with the House, is that they are sending the most extreme people to Congress, who then cause gridlock. So people on the right who are pissed off at the gridlock don’t seem to realize that the people they vote for are causing the gridlock. Though to be fair, it’s not just the extreme right pissed off at the gridlock. Practically everyone is, including myself. But people seem to think that choosing a president will be the key to fixing the gridlock, when the real key is to not elect people to Congress who won’t cause gridlock. Compromise has gotten a bad reputation in the last few years unfortunately and it’s resulted in more and more stagnation in Congress

This. Him being a loose cannon and unpredictable (along with his nasty behavior) is what concerns me the most

Well, McConnell certainly has no intention of trying to keep Trump in line:

Senate Leader McConnell suggests Trump can undo Obama actions ‘unilaterally’ without Congress

I think Trump will have a fight on his hands over at least one part of his 100 days agenda, though - he wants a constitutional amendment imposing congressional term limits.

That’s a pretty silly statement. Of course they aren’t going to “keep him in line” on things they totally agree on. In addition to term limits, they are probably going to resist trade barriers and that stupid wall idea. I’m not saying everything is going to be fine but you can’t expect them to all become Democrats just to rein in Trump.
