Official 83rd Academy Awards thread

Maybe Anne can help him!

Dead call coming up next!

Oooh, they must have told people not to clap. This is great!

sniff Sally Menke

Aww, man, are people holding their applause through the dead roll? Half the fun is seeing who gets the most.

Please please please lets see Randy Newman in the montage!!!

Thanks for actually offering something in the way of an explanation. Sorry if my question wasn’t clear. And I agree Fincher is overdue for a win as Best Director.

I see dead people.

Were there more than usual? Why is the montage moving so quickly?

What? No appluase during the dead call? That sucks. I like hearing how they clap more for the people they’ve heard of. Bad idea to make them hold their applause. That takes all the fun out of it.

The Modern Family promo was the funniest bit of the night.

Phil (to Gloria playing charades):

“Pretty Woman! Babe! Sex in the City! Lovely Bones! Milk!”
mmm

So I guess there’s no Honorary Oscar presented this year?

They must have been really strict about telling people not to clap during the death montage.

How did they manage that? I’d think that there would have been at least some spontaneous applause. Did they turn off the mikes that would pick up the audience?

Think they can wrap this up in half an hour?

Why did Lena Horne get a special mention? She’s not that amazing.

This isn’t the thread to go into details as to why a movie is getting accolades and awards. Other people besides the people you know think it’s a groundbreaking movie of quality.

Yay! They finally did Bring Out Yer Dead right–no swooping camera angles, no weird cuts, and especially NO AUDIENCE FEEDBACK! Now that there’s some long overdue good sound-mixing.

I got to see Lena Horne in person and she was a walking example of Star Quality. But she did sing other songs than STORMY WEATHER, filmmakers.

That was the best way to do the obits. A single image or clip of the person, smiling, and no audience applause. That should be the standard for this and the Emmys from now on.

Yeah, I agree about Franco. He just seems to be getting duller and duller. Enjoyed Celine Dion though. For once she wasn’t overdoing it.

I loved the commercial they ran at the beginning of the show featuring clips from the show that related to each of then ten nominated films. The scene with Claire cutting off the fake hand from the Halloween episode for 127 Hours was hilarious!

Wow. I couldn’t disagree more. I think they murdered the segment and robbed it of everything that makes it entertaining. Worst idea since that year they decided not to show acting clips.

I HATE HATE HATE the applause-o-meter. It takes away the dignity of the necrology package, because why it may be drawing attention to certain corpses, it also writes off the others as being insignificant and not missed. My biggest fear in life is that I achieve enough that I’d make the montage, but then I would get silence when my clip appears.

However, it was amusing the way they’d show a name…silence…and then show a clip from a huge movie they worked on and THEN there would be applause.
