This Best Actor recap is pretty good. In particular, I enjoyed Sandra Bullock’s needling of Jeff Bridges and Jesse Eisenberg.
Yeah, Sandra Bullock has been really funny and awesome.
I’m not seeing anything wrong with James Franco. He just comes across as a lighthearted, easygoing guy.
My god, I just realized…if The King’s Speech wins, I am going to win $10,000 in the Oscar Pool I’m in. I am 9/9 for picks tonight. However, if The Social Network or Inception win, I will be just as happy. Well, ALMOST as happy.
Best Actor: Colin Firth - The King’s Speech
I’m very happy for Firth, who could easily have won last year, but Javier Bardem gave the best performance of the decade (besides Daniel Day Lewis in There Will Be Blood). Glad he was nominated at least.
Yes yes yes!!! Colin Firth!!!
Hope you’re all sitting down for the shocker win for best Actor…
Just kidding.
fusoya, my friend, I’m a little short on gas money this week… Just thought you should know.
::::: Happy Dance::::::
Come, on Colin.
Stammer. I dare you to stammer during this speech.
Now, this Actor win I’m happy for. Jesse was my second choice but at least I got to see one of the best moments from the movie.
Funny, laid back Colin speech. Anybody else remember Steve Martin mid-routine stopping and saying “Oh no! I’m getting happy feet!” and dancing crazily?
No stammer, but lots of ums and his wit went over the head of most of the audience.
The King’s Speech.
Yes, but it looks like I have won the annual Straight Dope Oscar Pool. I have won it in 6 or 7 years.
Both Queen Elizabeths (I & II) and their fathers have all yielded Oscar-winning performances (Judi Dench, Helen Mirren, Charles Laughton, Colin Firth)
Good for Colin Firth.
Now what the heck are some elementary school tots from Staten Island going to be doing on the Oscar telecast…? And why? :dubious:
Yeh, this was who I was rooting for based on the performances I saw.
It seems most of the major awards have gone pretty much as expected, but The Social Network has up picked more than I saw predicted. I wonder if Best Picture is really a foregone conclusion for The King’s Speech. We shall see.
No. That would be Best Picture. I saw only one of the nominees for Best Picture, but, after tonight, I plan on seeing most of them.
Mahaloth, my friend, I’m a little short on gas money this week…
I like having the previous Best Actor/Actress winner talking about the current nominees and giving out the award. It will be interesting to see how Firth and Portman do next year.
I thought Spielberg was going to name a bunch of his own movies after saying “The other 9…” But, I guess that’s a bit too silly.
