Official 83rd Academy Awards thread

I’m not watching the show but can hear it on the television upstairs. I recognized Colin’s accent saying “um…(muffled)…um…(muffled)…um…” and I figured he must be giving his acceptance speech.:smiley:

So glad he won. Just saw TKS last week for the first time. Brilliant.

Weird.

::crosses fingers::

Weird to play the King’s Speech…speech over all 10 nominees being shown.

I think showing all of the films under the King’s Speech is a pretty clever way to bring them all together.

And the winner is:

The King’s Speech

Best Picture: The King’s Speech

Um, they were about to start up for Best Picture and we got switched to “Bob’s Burgers”. WTF?

Woo hoo!!!

Bah. Was hoping Social Network would pull it out.

Better than clever. The King’s Speech - Best Picture!!!

This is really weird. Are they comparing the Best Pictures nominees to the start of a World War or saying we need the endurance of the Brits against Hitler to sit through them? I didn’t, except for maybe KIDS ARE ALL RIGHT. They just should have played Beethoven’s 7th under all the scenes.

Oscar Bait! That the phrase I was thinking of! It even took place right before the Holocaust.

How are they going to bring in the little kids from PS 22 from Staten Island (the Delaware of New York)?

There they are! So adorable and talented!

And cynically I just realized the non-white representation of people at this ceremony just multiplied geometrically.

That was one of the most predictable ceremonies I’ve ever seen. I have a feeling there’s going to be a big tie for 1st place in my pool.

King’s Speech was a good film (and after seeing David Seidler’s post win interview, I have even more respect for it), but it was such blatant Oscar Bait that I couldn’t help but root against it, especially since The Social Network and Inception were such great achievements. But no, you HAVE to go with the dry, dull royalty film every single damn year (I guess this is making up for Helen Mirran’s The Queen losing to The Departed a couple years ago?).

The following six films received multiple awards:

* Four: Inception and The King's Speech
* Three: The Social Network
* Two: Alice in Wonderland, The Fighter, and Toy Story 3

Bah. I was hoping for Inception.

But that’s fine.

So drinks are on you tonight? Cool! Congratulations on that, btw.

That’s a great dress.

Slumdog Millionaire and The Hurt Locker aren’t entirely normal Oscar Bait and they are the previous 2 winners.

This is a little… Trite.

Yep, party at my place, drinks are on me!!! As always, the SDMB thread made this watching experience much more fun. See ya next year!

They also weren’t up against any British Royalty films…
