I’d blame your DVR. Presumably you had it set to record that show.
Good for The King’s Speech and all the winners.
But the ceremony itself was one of the worst I can remember. The completely pointless and baffling kids at the end just topped it off…
Anne looked like she was just getting warmed up. Thanks James, we’ll call you…
And so it begins. I predicted this. The King’s Speech was anything but dry and dull, and there’s no such thing as “Oscar Bait” but from now on the movie will be unfairly reviled for winning over The Social Network and Inception. People will always be having to defend the movie, until they give up in exasperation. The naysayers will pound and pound and it’ll become a “given” that The King’s Speech is a piece of shit. Sad, really.
Huh, I liked it. Silly and I guess a little trite. But, having the kids sing and all the winners out on stage to celebrate was pretty fun. I especially liked Anne Hathaway slapping hands with all of the kids.
Nope, we don’t have a DVR. Just regular ol’ cable.
They aren’t honoring anybody, it’s a wankfest. It’s about who gets the most applause. If they aren’t going to have an applause meter, there’s no point. Why should they all get the same amount of respect anyway? This isn’t Communist China. It’s a meritocracy. Applause at the dead call has to be earned by either having had talent or by being hot.
Nope, we don’t have a DVR. Just regular ol’ cable. Then it finally came back when the kids were singing. Stooooopid cable company.
Sorry about the double post. The posts are coming so quickly, I didn’t realise my first post was already up. Meant to edit it to add the quote so it made sense.
Yeah, Hathaway was fine, and she’s certainly easy on the eyes. She can host the Oscars again anytime, IMHO.
Yeah, what was that? Lamest finale ever to top off embarrassingly bad hosting.
Well as that show is on a different network, I’d guess someone accidentally pressed a button on your remote?
Huh, now I’m torn between loading up “Inception” or breaking out the “Freaks and Geeks” collection.
That had to be the dullest Oscar show ever. The kids of PS22, at least, brought a little life to the thing at the end.
Hey, Crash was better than Brokeback Mountain. Shakespeare In Love was better than Saving Private Ryan (aka the film that had a great opening scene followed by 110 minutes of crap).
However.
The Social Network and Inception are better films than The King’s Speech, and were ROBBED!!! I DEMAND AN INVESTIGATION!!!
Oh, I hope that people don’t get snobbish about this year’s Picture. THE KING’S SPEECH was a well-made movie with some of the best performances I’ve seen all year. So was GHANDI, for example, but I though ET was the better example *of the movie craft *in 1983.
KING’S SPEECH was a fine movie, but if the Queen Mum hadn’t lived to be 101 and Seidler didn’t respect her wishes, it could have been made in 1991 or 2001. Or frankly 1961. It was telling a story that may not be very well-known to everyone but has been told before and wasn’t groundbreaking or made me see the whole world in a different way. Aside from the cursing, it could have been a miniseries on PBS any time in the last 30 years.
But hey, it was literate, brought attention to a speech defect that affects a lot of people, and everybody associated with it from actors to writers to directors were nice talented folks. Bravo to them, and THE SOCIAL NETWORK and TOY STORY 3 and WINTER’S BONE will still be around for everyone to enjoy too.
What is the reason that a fifth-grade chorus from a Staten Island public school appeared on the show? I tried looking on the New York Times website, but couldn’t immediately find an explanation. Did they win some sort of contest?
My correct picks:
Best Film
Best Animated
Best Actor and Actress
Best supporting actor and actress
Best editing
I’m special.
Sorry, loved the kids, especially with the winners behind them.
I hope you seek help soon.
I can see your point and agree you have a strong argument.
Well, I’m pretty sure The King’s Speech isn’t ever likely to earn anything like the $$$$ at the box office either The Social Network or Inception have already. That alone should count for something.
zzzzz… (wakes up, turns off tv, shuffles off to bed…oh,wait…) True Grit didn’t win a single award?
