I know it was the favorite, but I still don’t get what’s so great about the score to The Social Network. It’s just the same few single notes repeated over and over. Should have gone to Inception, IMHO.

Eyebrows, I was just about to post the same thing. The Social Network’s score has 3 piano notes…and yet it wins an Oscar? Sorry, but that’s one award they did NOT deserve.

This almost makes up for Chris Nolan getting snubbed for Best Director.
There’s a lot more to Reznor’s score than 3 notes. They’re all worthy nominees, but Reznor’s score is a worthy winner.
Sound Editing: Inception again!

If it had won Best Screenplay, then possibly. But as it is, no. The sound awards were a given to go to Inception. I think it will also take Visual Effects, but nothing else. (I *wish *it would win, it was my favorite movie of the year.)
While I haven’t seen the film, I’ve heard more of the the score than just the main theme and think it’s rather brilliant.
You could easily say the same thing about Jaws, unless you actually listen to the entire score (brilliant, btw) and not just base it on the part you remember and gets played over and over. Very deserving win.

At this point, it’s possible that the Best Picture winner walks away with fewer Oscars than at least one other, since Inception has one more in the bag and Social could easily grab two more.
So far, the Best Score winner is the only one of the night that I think was completely unworthy of the win. There’s no memorable theme to that movie, you’ll never hear The Social network in a music montage. Or to put it another way, after seeing Inception I bought the score on CD and have listened to it several times.
