Porn bores me anymore. And I’m one of the people that are supposed to like it. I’m a 41 year old typical male in many respects. I hate to shop. Territorial when driving. Fart and belch at will at home and enjoy the subsequent eye-rolling from the wife. But porn? Ho-hum. (By porn, I am referring to video and pictures. I still enjoy written erotica very much.)
When watching it, I find myself criticizing the acting, the lighting, and the sound quality. It must attempt a plot or I won’t even consider renting it.
And if any of you are thinking that it’s a function of getting older and losing interest in sex in general, that’s not the case. Five to seven times a week is normal for my wife and I. In fact, my life would make a decent porn movie. My wife is pretty, 20 years younger than I am and bisexual. Porn bores her too. Are there any more victims of “porn fatigue” out there? If so, tell me why.
You truly are evil… For posting this section alone:
But back to the OP, no I am not bored by porn
I think it’s that porn (video-pictorial hardcore) has become boring. There has always been only so little creativity available for it in the first place, now it’s spread a thousand times thinner. Age is a factor in this in that it has given you the time to essentially see all the good ideas at least once, and all the trite repetitious ones at least forty times. And really, since every close-up of a penetration is pretty much the same as every other, you start noticing such things as the sets, the sound mix, and the splices.
Correct, JRDelirious. I have always believed I could write and produce quality porn. All I need are actors and investors. With good writing and direction and good production values, I think good porn would be well received, even among the jaded.
Optihut, you aren’t even a little bored by the repetition?
I must still confess a weakness for lesbian porn. I find myself more tolerant of it than any other. Must be the testosterone.
Hehe… you get no sympathy from me.
Heck, I’m only 20 and I’m already bored with porn. I used to love it but the novelty has worn of I guess. With broadband Internet it’s so easy to acquire porn, it’s easy to get jaded, I have just seen too much. In my teens, a daily porn fix was a struggle.
I think it begun two years ago for me, that’s when I started having sex with my girlfriend on almost a daily basis. I mean why should I look at other people having sex when I have a beautiful woman twiddling her thumbs in the room next door?
When I look at porn now, I start heckling the actors and ridiculing the interior decorating.
It’s not age, it’s exposure. When I was 12, underwear ads and SI swimsuit issues were quite exciting. Now, none of it seems any good. But take a man who has been isolated from it all his life (Victorian times?) and I’ll bet he’s not jaded. Think of how silly “porn” from the 20s looks now.
The exposure theory has merit. Does this mean that porn must become more extreme or closer to an individuals idea of fantasy before it interests them anymore? I know my thoughts would frighten some and be ridiculed by others as tame and pedestrian
Porn just bores me now too. There used to be decent movies in the “golden age of porn” circa 1970-1980. Y’know the ones that had a little plot and bad acting but you could follow the story and the scenes were sexier. Some of the older films like Swedish Erotica were good. Also the actresses did not * look * like your little sister or under the age of 18.
But now it is all the same and rather stupid. Seems too many people want to see “underage girls” or something that looks like them. Everything also seems to be based upon “how can we degrade this girl”. Y’know where you see like 3 guys on one girl and she has this look of pain in her eyes. That, IMHO, is just too violent and a major turnoff.
(yeah I know Janes Addiction said sex is violent)
Geez, I spend too much time on the boards. At first I was shocked and thought “Hey… Was my message really that repetive?”
A second later I understood that you were referring to the porn. Doh!
Heh. Well, maybe I didn’t see enough porn films yet, but so far looking at Jenna Jameson isn’t boring to me
I think it’s a combination of several factors. One is that it’s no longer a novelty as others have noted. I acquired my first girlie mag when I was 15 and that was a very prized possession. Nowadays I could take or leave such magazines. I can get porn pics any time I want from the Internet (at home, of course).
Another factor is the fact that there is more porn of lesser quality out there. Now that we have web cams, digital cameras and whatnot, as well as the Internet, virtually anyone who is willing to do so can show off his/her naked body to the rest of the world without having to be a 20-something model (Quite frankly I think some people should vow to never pose naked, ever, but that would be for a different thread). Add to this the fact that I get irritated by seeing blurred-out faces or faces/heads that are cut off out of the frame, and close-ups of the genitalia, which do nothing for me.
Two things could rekindle interest in porn, IMO.
-
Better acting. That would lead to more detailed plot exploration and take advantage of the fact that a great deal of eroticism is intellectual.
-
More “niche” porn in the mainstream. If people could find a collection of porn that tripped thier particular trigger, I think they would be more receptive to it.
But the internet has plenty of ‘niche’ porn.
Just search and you will find people that have the exact same “niche” fetish as you. It’s almost frightening how many people get turned on by the thing that you thought was unique to yourself.
We are the Knights who say “niche”.
I’m 17 (and female, actually, but pretty guyish when it comes to talking about sex, pornography and the like, so don’t write me off on that basis only). After maybe a month of looking at porn, I came to agree with you, Evil One: most of it is pretty boring. It has to be fairly hardcore to initiate so much as a response out of me–and even then, that response is usually just amusement. Most pornography is more laughable than arousing, IMHO. Some of the stuff I’ve come across is just plain ludicrous, but that can be okay under the right circumstances…sometimes. Sometimes a little bit of fantasy is okay, but usually it’s just like, “she actually looks bored,” or “what the hell? people get off on this? How?” or “My, that is one frightening-looking breast/penis/deposit of semen.”
Secondly, and this may sound a little odd, but there’s a lot of repitition in pornography as well. While there are a lot of niches, there’s a lot of redundancy. You can only look at so many facials before they just start to look sort of funny (asuming that they didn’t to begin with, which was the case with me. Course, I’m a tad unusual). Specifically, what Peter, said: almost anything hardcore is degrading.
Better acting would probably be a plus, and most assuredly, better writing. If it weren’t veiwed in the light that it is, hell, I’d write a pornscript or six.
(And Zebra, niche! niche!)
Clarification: almost anything hardcore looks degrading for the women involved. Like it could possibly be degrading for the usually faceless, out-of-focus guys in the shot. (I do not make this point just because I’m female. I’ll check out a little of the ol’ degredation every now and again myself. I’m just asking for a little deviation from that path).
Alrighty then. I’ll write the script and direct. I have photography and production experience as well. All we need now a rich doper to underwrite the endeavor…and actors/actresses. Any volunteers?
I agree about the modern stuff, however I still like the older stuff. For movies I prefer stuff up to the late 70’s early 80’s. For pictures, the type at Stoids site are excellent. I find the pictures of women from the twenties, thirties and the like far more erotic than what is in Playboy these days. Also, I am one to fast forward the sex scenes and stop for the plot, character development, and story such as they are.
I’ll volunteer Mudshark and myself to fill a couple of those acting spots. Good luck with the rich doper, though.
Oh, almost forgot, as an added bonus: if you give it another couple months, it’ll even be legal, too.
Preproduction and planning will take care of that, Orange. Do you have a plot preference?
