I was almost tempted to put this in MPSIMS, because discussing another one of FOX News misdeeds is becoming, how should I say, routine and boring. But, alas, I think the doodyheads over there deserve to be pitted for the latest atrocity on common sense. Follow me through the rabbit hole of FOX reality:
Over at Media Matters they have a story about how FOX News was trying to weave a tale of how the Obama Administration is now trying to be more upbeat about the economy. Now that in of itself is quit ehumorous given the criticism the Administration had been taken by the right for being too negative.
But I digress.
So the story is purporting to show sound bites of Administration officials\ sounding more positive, including Joe Biden saying:
Wait, what? Biden said that? Oh the hypocrisy! Because when McCain said that he was lambasted. The FOX anchors were quick to point it our, even contrasting it with McCain’s comment.
Gotha ya!
Except one tiny problem, Biden didn’t say that this weekend. He said it on September 15, 2008…on the campaign trail…and he was quoting McCain.
You dirty filthy pieces of manure. Pawning off old clips, out of context and misleading as new news makes me not so angry that I may spit the bit, so to speak.
Yeah, well, I don’t expect them to do good journalism, but I have to say I’m a little startled to see them peddling deliberate, documented, barefaced deception as journalism.
I couldn’t get the OP’s link to work, but this one says:
Lemme get this straight. The nice well-groomed lady in the TV set, on the news show—the professional journalist, the person claiming to provide information to the public about what’s going on in the world—announces that they’ll show some interviews from this weekend where administration members express their opinions about the current state of the economy.
And then they show footage of the Vice-President quoting somebody else six months earlier.
Even for yellow journalism, that’s a little too Pravda-esque. Have they simply decided “Well screw this wussy plausible-deniability stunt, we’ll just flat-out make shit up and not care if we’re caught. Hey, it works for Limbaugh”?
I was just thinking about what would happen if I pulled my own version of this stunt here on the boards. If I quoted a snippet of Poster A’s post that was quoting Poster B, but instead I deliberately said “originally posted by Poster A” under the guise that anything in that post has technically been “posted” by A.
What would happen is that I’d be warned by the moderators, my post edited to reflect the truth, and I’d face a banning if I attempted it again.
And I have to laugh because that’s how it should be.
MacCALLUM: Yesterday during a segment on the recent change in tone from President Obama’s economic team, we inadvertently used a piece of video of Vice President Biden saying “the fundamentals of the economy are strong.” This video was from the campaign trail when the vice president was a candidate and was actually quoting Sen. John McCain. When we get something wrong we admit it. We did so yesterday, and for that we apologize.
Ok, so at least they apologized for it, but I don’t see how it could have been inadvertent. Somebody had to intentionally crop that clip and then intentionally insert into the package.
The plan in 2010 is to put the word “Democrat” under every Republican candidate, and vice versa.
Every once in a while one of their drones will pop in and say, “Oops, we goofed. We just don’t know what to do with our graphics people.” Oddly enough, no one will suggest firing them.
