We’re all shorn now. Today has consisted of haircuts, lunch (we got all fancy and went to the Three Squares Diner again. we’re such elitists!) and a run by the grocery store for some staples. While we were there, we picked up a couple steaks (like I don’t have a freezer full) for supper tonight. Those will be grilled and we’ll have salad and baked sweet N.O.T. with cinnamon sugar and butter. YUM! Lately we’ve eaten a lot of baked sweet N.O.T.. I think I’ll bake several tonight so I’ll have some for sweet N.O.T. pie for Thanksgiving. I’m trying for the world’s record for number of times N.O.T. is typed in a paragraph.
FCD’s tummy is a bit iffy, so instead of crab legs, we had N.O.T. soup - which is very yummerrific! Have I ever mentioned that I’m a good soup maker? Because I am. Especially this soup. I shredded some swiss cheese for mine - yummmmm.
My kiln is programmed and counting down till it starts around 7. So tomorrow my stuff should be all glazed and beauteous. Which means I can start throwing again. I gotta get rid of all this stuff I’m making! Some of my friends in Orange Park are getting surprise pots. Next year I plan to do a bunch of craft shows.
Big plans for tomorrow include the Hollywood VFD craft show - after we go to the convenience center. We’ve got lots of trash and recycling that needs to go. Oh yeah, we have wild weekends. As if that wasn’t enough, when we get home, I get to do laundry. Oh yeah…
Hmm. The dress is about floor-length, so I think I’ll shorten it. I like it- gored, very full skirt and slightly belled sleeves, with a semi-fitted bodice. It’s a good afternoon’s work. I’ve still got to shorten it and bind the neck, but I might wait for Quasi-Daughter’s seal of approval.
Bumba, that sounds wonderful. Especially since for New Year’s, we’re going to Ottawa. We’re so smart. Let’s go somewhere fifteen degrees colder in January. Aargh.
Congratulations to the Perfect Child!
I’m seeing ads for encylopedias now. Do people still buy those? I have the set my parents bought back in the early 60s, World Books. We got the ‘year books’ every year, too.
They were on the shelves in the knotty-pine paneled basement and I used to sit on the bottom basement step and leaf through them. It was cool down there in the summer and I thought it was fun to read them. I was such a dork.
Hmmm, I guess I’ll have to join you in your dorkdom, because I read our encyclopedias as a kid too. I enjoyed reading them immensely.
I thought every child read the encyclopedia as a child. I mean my sister, my brothers and me did the same thing… so, you’re saying we’re weird?
Supper is et. It was nummy. I foresee a soak in the hot tub shortly. It’s cool out so it’d be the perfect time to do so. Anybody else wanna see two middle aged nekkid men in a hot tub? Come on over!
My mom got a 40s vintage encyclopedia set when I was a kid and she kept it in the downstairs bathroom. It was neat reading a 20-year-old reference book. I wish she still had them - I’d love to read them again.
I may go to a thrift store and see if I can get an ancient set.
We had Funk & Wagnalls (dark green, pretty) and then later the Britannica. Yes, I read them too. There were too many volumes to bring to Ohio.
In grad school I got a good deal on a one-volume encyclopedia. Used it a lot, especially when roomies and I would start wondering about random stuff (pre- easy internet access). These days I wander over to Wikipedia a lot. I’ve also got Encarta, although I think the last time I re-upped was about 2003. Still, it’s cool.
I hereby declare that reading encyclopedias is part of being cool. So there!
We get to see pictures of the dress too, right, LiLi?
So, I decided to watch the beginning of THE GAME. And never stopped. It was a really good game. (And I barely watch any football.) I’m just hoping the idjit fans who think it’s cool to destroy stuff in celebration can control themselves (or be controlled by cops).
Of course, since I’m not able to just watch TV, I also sorted out some pictures that I need to make copies of for Mom… And did a little bit of cleaning up.
Guess I should do some laundry and further cleaning. Yep just another typical Buckeye fan on the day of the Michigan game.

What did I come in here to say? Oh well.
I’ve got you all beat, maybe. I have the first 21 volumes of a set of Encyclopedia Britannicas printed (starting) in 1872! One of them has a map of Transylvania in it. They’re in boxes in the upstairs closet right now, though.
That damn ad is back. I guess I’ll have to use my sig again. My apologies to all my Republican friends.
I’m a little embarassed about it actually. I usually don’t let that sort of thing bother me. Guess I’m just getting old and crotchety.
Also, I’m really surprised a mod hasn’t called me on it yet.
Awright, y’all, get your <snerk>s ready.
I, Bobbio, have hurt my back picking my nuts.
With 2 storm systems in quick succession, my yard was covered in peecans, and try as I might, I could not get them picked up fast enough. I ducked out of work early yesterday, and filled 3 more five gallon buckets full of them. I spent close to 2 hours bent over at the waist, and I’m feeling it tonight. The muscle that runs along my spine and connects to the back of my thigh is screaming at me. If I stand or lie flat I’m fine, but to sit upright or get up from a chair or bed is an exercise in pain.
I hope there’s not any fire pages tonight, because I’m just stooooopid enough to answer it, and then I’ll feel even worse tomorrow.
That is all. I have a :squee: story for you tomorrow. Off to find painkillers and a place to lie flat…
AAAAAAARRRRRRRRRGGGGGGHHHHHHH!!! I can deal with Hun type devastation in the store, I can deal with all the employees coming in late, but why in the name of OG do you have to play frelling Christmas music?!?
bobbio, you were grabbing your nuts till your thighs hurt? <snerk>
Bumba, I’m still getting the Democrat ads, but I got sweet N.O.T. ads when swampy showed up.
Well, the Snakes lost tonight 4-7. They really didn’t show up to play until about halfway through the third period. Really, really sloppy puck handling; they just didn’t look like the same team as last night. That puts us a 4-4 on the season, which is the best start on a season since we’ve been in this league.
I didn’t get a jersey. I don’t know how much they went for 'cause I didn’t even stay for the auction.
We had about 10 busloads of soldiers from Fort Benning. I alway love it when they come to games 'cause they really seem to enjoy it.
I’m sleepy - see ya’ll tomorrow!
Hi, all. I’ve been AWOL cause I’ve been insanely busy. Part of it has been working on a transcript with THE worst mumbler I have run across in over 20 years of doing this. Gack! Made me absolutely CRAZY. I just finished it, thank heaven.
But that was yesterday morning. Then yesterday afternoon Papa Tigs decided to play hooky from work midday, so he came home and we went to Delaware and made a small donation to the casino. Not much; he won back most of what we’d taken with us. And then I came home and tried to work on Mr. Mumbler and said the hell with it and went to bed.
And then this morning my sister called from Seattle early enough that managed to wake me up even though she’s three hours earlier than me ! – and we had a lovely yak, then I struggled with Mr. Mumbler while Papa Tigs went out to rake leaves. Dummy me, I told him if he’d run out and pick up a second rake, I’d help him. Alas, there was an extra one in the shed left by our landlord, so next thing I knew I was out there raking leaves. It was actually quite pleasant – it was SUCH a beautiful day for it. Our yard is very small and we have NO trees on the property, but we’re surrounded by oaks and hickories and whatnot, so our entire yard is coated in leaves. We just did the back yard, and tomorrow will get the (much smaller) front yard.
And then this afternoon we were SO BAD. We took the pups along for the drive and drove down to Salisbury, MD on the Eastern Shore, where we went to a really lovely sewing shop and – tah dah! – I got myself a brand-new Singer serger! The lady there was so nice, went through a whole bunch of different stuff on the machine and what all you could do with it. She made it look easy, too. And then I came home and started looking at the manual. Oy gevalt! This is going to be fun. Clearly, I’m going to have a learning curve. Just learning how to thread the silly thing is a challenge, with up to 5 threads going at once!
And now my bed is calling to me. But Mr. Mumbler is DONE and SENT and GONE. Sleep tight, everyone, and I’ll talk again tomorrow – after we finish raking up all the leaves!
Good Morning Y’all!
It’s a chilly mornin’ in south Jawja, only 38 Amurrkin! I actually turned the heat on. I am also by myself cause ACBG went home after hot tubbin’ last night cause he has to work today. Their census load is up (means they got a lot of patients) so he’s doing home visits which he does a lot of when the census load is up. He had one at six a.m. so he decided to go home cause where he needed to be at six a.m. is closer to his house than mine, poor baby. Anywho, he’ll be done with visits and paperwork stuff by noon he thinks so I’ll have a nice lunch all ready. Grilled ham steaks, steamed broccoli and baby carrots, parmesan rice and frozen rolls (ok, I’ll like bake ‘em so we won’t eat frozen rolls but they’re frozen rolls that thaw and rise). I might even make a peach cobbler cause it’s easy to make and he just lurves peach cobbler. I spoil him. Plus, I’m goin’ to church this morning. OH! I went by the building site yesterday and they were installing cabinets in the kitchen! YAY!!! Is it wrong that the thing I’m most excited about in the new building is the commercial kitchen? I mean, I sit in meetings where we talk about all the things we need to do in the church proper to make it all Whiskypalian like and I listen and all but really get interested whenever the kitchen is mentioned. My mind keeps thinkin’, “you’ll be cooking St. Patrick’s Day dinner in a brand new commercial kitchen, YAY!!!” I’m so weird.
Ok, more go juice and some breakfast cause I’m hungry.
Bye Y’all!
It’s a brisk morning here - about 35 deg, I think. Guess I need to bring in the last of the tender plants - we’re being threatened with freezing in a couple of days, and I want to keep these impatiens alive till spring. Then I’ll kill 'em. Or plant 'em. Whatever…
After taking Bernie for her morning walk, I moseyed downstairs to find that my kiln load took just over 10.5 hours and it’s cooled all the way down to under 1800 degrees (It got up to 2180) When it gets under 600, I’ll prop the lid open slightly to hasten cooling, and under 300, I can empty it. I sure hope it worked better this time. Instead of using one of the canned programs, I used the instructions from my teacher. <fingers crossed>
**FCD ** is still crashed, his faithful feline by his side. Dunno if he’ll take me to breakfast, but I can hope. I am looking forward to the craft show today. I’ll even take a few dollars just in case I see something I have to have. That doesn’t happen too often, but there was one time I saw some prints I really wanted and we were broke. Next time we saw those prints, the artist had gotten enough of a reputation that he had his work in galleries and it cost us a lot more. So today I’ll be prepared.
Bumba, I would love to see encyclopedias as old as yours - I bet they’re a hoot! There’s nothing like paging through old volumes. It’s not the same at all to click “Random” - the tactile aspect of a real reference book.
Happy Sunday!
Sorry about the nuts, Bobbio. <snerk>
I think the constant Christmas music is the one thing that would drive me crazy if I had to work retail, doggio.
What would happen if a mumbler was truly unintelligible, Mama T? Do you ever have to write that you can’t understand what you have to transcribe?
I’m up. Gotta go in to work for a bit to check some work before I send stuff out. I wanted to do it yesterday, but I couldn’t connect from home and I wasn’t about to go in. So I’m thinking I’ll go in now and then go to church when I’m done.
Pretty exciting, I know.
GT
Morning, It’s 35 degrees here. The critters have been waled and watered, and I’m getting ready for Mass.
I’m up, about to drink tea, and trying to decide if ten is the right time to wake Mr. Lissar for eleven o’clock Mass. Driving and Attacks Husbands and QD were here last night until 1:30, and I think Mr. Lissar will be all sleepy.
I recommend a nice hot bath, Bob. Ouch.
That’s the annoying part. The people I learned to do this from would insist I put in things like (inaudible) or (indiscernible) or (phonetic). But all the reporting firms in the DC area want you to fake it like you know what’s going on and what’s actually happening, so I make liberal use of dashes. Just put in a dash where there’s a chunk you don’t understand. But, of course, I’m paid to understand as much of it as is humanly possible. And my consolation is that if I don’t understand these idiots, nobody else in the room will, either. (Although 20 years later, I still want to kill an idiot lawyer who couldn’t understand a witness at ALL because of a thick foreign accent and actually had the nerve to say, “Oh well, I’ll get it from the transcript.” Gee, you think maybe if YOU don’t understand the witness, the reporter’s ESP is working so well that they can understand the incomprehensible? Ass.)
Anyway. It’s a chilly morning here, too, but not as cold as South Jawja or even Southern Merryland, strangely enough. Thus far I’ve been drinking coffee and telling myself to get off my behind and get back outside to raking leaves. I think I’ll wait for it to warm up to 50 first – it’s currently at 48, and I deserve a quiet morning after my busy day yesterday. Plus it’s my reward for finishing Mr. Mumbler at 1:00 am last night!
If you need a home for your nuts, Bobbio <snerk>, you can send them up here. I can try making real genyoowine New Orleans pralines. The food that, if such a thing is possible, makes pure sugar even sweeter than it already is. Yummy!
Interesting, Mama T. I was wondering because we have certain work meetings that are recorded (we have pretty decent digital recorders) and have to be transcribed. I’ve had secretaries ask me to listen to recordings they were transcribing and often couldn’t understand what was being said either. I don’t think I’d be able to transcribe full time.
Wow, FCM, you still have impatiens that are alive? Mine are long since gone. On the other hand, I still have snapdragons blooming happily. I’m not pulling them till they stop (which might be never).
I was at work just under two hours. Got everything done and sent, so I don’t have anything to worry about going into work tomorrow. I might even be able to sleep OK tonight. On the minus side, it took longer than I thought, so I couldn’t make it to 10:00 mass. So I’ve got a little while to putz around here and then it’s off to 12:00…
Gotta go throw something in the washer and then clean up a couple items.
