Oh, Sweet Nothing - MMP

Good morning everyone.

Sorry about your nutty owie Bobbio. I hope you’re feeling much better today.

It’s rainy and windy today…again. It’s not particularly cold, though.

I’ve got beef burgundy going in the slow cooker. It should be yummy.

I think I need a few more cups of joe before I’m feeling fully awake.

That’s all for now. I’ll probably be back later.

Bobbio you need one of these to <snerk> pick yer nuts. <snerk>

Lunch was wondermous if’n I do say so myself. I did make the peach cobbler. I know, I know… I’m way to nice. ACBG is laid out upon the bed fast asleep. I’d say he looks so sweet lyin’ there except for the og awful snoring. I closed the door and am hoping he doesn’t suck the paint off the walls. Poor baby got up at 4:30 a.m. so he deserves a nap.

This afternoon I’m going to help pack baskets to deliver for Thanksgiving and deliver a few even. I volunteered to do one complete basket, meaning buy all the stuff for a Thanksgiving dinner for a family of six. I like doing it that way. I’ll do the same thing for Christmas as well as buy presents for some kidlets whose names I’ll get from a couple places around town and at church. That’s the kind of Christmas shopping I get into doing. We always use those nice plastic laundry baskets. They were bought at The Dollar Tree (Hi doggio!). I’m not sure why except I guess the thought is maybe folks could use a laundry basket too. That and they’re sturdy and hold a lot of stuff.

Maybe I should take a little snooze…

Back from breakfast and the craft  show. Plus we ran by WalMart and stocked up on doggie and kitty food and kitty litter so I don’t have to venture into that particular hell until after the shopping frenzy ends. And we ran by McKays - they have Diet Coke at 4/$10 for the 12-packs. So I stocked up.

Anyway, the craft  show sucked. It was cramped and crowded. I don’t think the vendors got 50 sq ft each, and the aisles were narrow. Much of what was for sale was country crap (no offense to those who like lace and ruffles on everything or fakey weathered look stuff) or things one could barely call hand crafted. I swear, many of the jewelry vendors were just selling stuff they’d bought wholesale - there’s no way they could have crafted those things and be able to sell them so incredibly cheap. Unless they’re just stupid.

The people who had the other ceramics booth at the show I did were there. Any other ceramics I saw were obviously from molds - the decoration was decent quality, if overly precious. Lots of quilted stuff, lots of obviously holiday stuff, and truly, nothing that caught my eye and made me want to pull out cash. **FCD ** bought some home made jalapeno beef jerky and munched it as we walked. I think it took all of 30 minutes, and that included getting stuck in congested aisles.

Maybe the problem I’m having is my interpretation of crafts. I remember the arts and crafts at the shrimp festival in Fernandina Beach, FL - some amazing stuff there. (I’ve got a ceramic piece hanging on my wall that I plan to copy one day.) There were paintings and water colors and hand carved items and glass and pottery and sculptures - more emphasis on art than craft. All a matter of taste, I guess, but a crocheted toilet tissue holder or a sled with a winter scene painted on it seem kinda trite.

Or maybe I’m just a grouch.

We’ve disposed of our trash and recycling. First load of laundry in the machine. I’m thinking about cleaning the carpet, at least in the family room, since that gets the most use. FCD is going to futz on the boat again, so the house is mine for a while. Three-day work week. Four pies to bake. Life is good.

See, I’m not so much of a grouch, dammit! :stuck_out_tongue:

Well, it does take practice. It also helps if the recording is good, and if the folks don’t speak over each other. That’s why I prefer to only work on certain clients, where they try very hard not to talk over each other and also where there’s a good reporter in the room getting all the information I need to produce a good transcript. There’s one client I’ve been working on long enough that even though I’ve never met a single person, I was able to transcribe some tapes they’d recorded themselves four years ago and know exactly who was speaking the whole time. They probably don’t realize what an amazing feat that is, but trust me. I earned a few gold stars on that one!

Papa Tigs and I just picked up all the leaves in the back yard, raked up the front, and started bagging it; but we both ran out of steam, needed a food & coffee break, before we finish up. And then we’re each going to run a couple of quick errands and come home and finish the yard. Then I’m going to sit at my comfy desk in my comfy chair and not move all afternoon if I can help it!

Thanks for all the wishes about my back. I’m not supposed to take it because of my rearranged innards, but Naprosyn/Aleve does help.

It’s the same kind of sore that I get whenever I decide to go running and overdo it, except this is in my back and not my thighs. The painful part should be pretty much done by tomorrow, and I suspect that I’ll live.

In other news, George Mac and the boys came by to pick his cotton, and he lost money on this field. Picked cotton gets packed into big blocks the size of a semi, called a module. The field that surrounds me is 30 acres, and to break even, he needed 3 modules; and a normal yield would be about 4. He got one. The land right here is very sandy and drains quickly, so the field is dry even with weekly monsoons, and doesn’t support cotton very well. He says he’s planting wheat next week instead, and that’s how I had the seed drill parked in my yard.

I tried to take some pictures of they guys picking yesterday, but they didn’t turn out too well. However, I do have a shot I took that did turn out of a different subject. Get ready to ::squee::

I found this in my workshop yesterday. VWife estimates him to be 3-4 weeks old, in good health, and he went from wild to lovesponge in about 2 hours. We sure as hell are not keeping him, since the 2 tail limit for indoor felines is already filled. I’ve forbidden her to name him for that reason. If anyone wants him I think he’ll fit in the CD slot…

I should have guessed sooner that he was out there. His mama, who I thought was a tom until we caught the kitten, is a contemptible POS feral cat that has attacked me on a couple of occasions, but most recently in my workshop, obviously defending her offspring. She’s getting in from the attic via a large hole in the ceiling. Having enamored me (NOT) on several occasions, I’ve put her on the short list for some high velocity subcutaneous lead poisoning, and never got the shot. For you bunnyhuggers out there, fear not, because the county animal control is coming tomorrow with some live traps for all of the feral cats we have.

I’ve seriously considered using my shop vac on my nuts. If we get another big wind, I think I will.

  <SNERK>

That is a cute little kitten, but I’m never going to own another kitty again. Although I miss the cat we had until just recently, I do not miss the litterbox, cat urp, and hairballs.

My dog is enough.

Still rainy and windy here.

So, Bobbio what did VunderWife end up naming the kitty?

So much for carpet cleaning. My mom loaned me her Bissel. The sack of accessories and instructions she gave me are for a Hoover shampooer. I’m not sure what goes where in the Bissel and I don’t want to buy Mom a new one because I trashed this one, so the carpets got vacuumed and that’s it. I did move the love seat in the family room and found all kinds of goodies under it. So that’s something.

I’m thinking a call to Stanley Steemer is in order…

Jeans in the dryer, miscellaneous load in the washer, kiln lid propped open a wee bit (it was at 652 deg - close enough. Tea brewing for iced tea for my sweetie. I’m just gonna take it easy, except for the laundry stuff. Yep, sounds like a plan. Just had a little left over BBQ - that stuff just gets better and better with age! Yum!

Bobbio, the kitty is adorable! I think we have a 2-tail rule here, too. *Someone * got his knickers in a knot when I suggested we look at kitties… Then again, when our daughter comes to live here, she’s got a cat, so I guess we shouldn’t overload the premises.

That is a seriouly adorable kitten!

I found out that the jerseys last night started at $400 - they used to start at $250. I hope this is not going to be the trend for the future. Report was that the jerseys went for between $400 and $900. No possible freaking way. $400 is the max I would possibly spend. There is a NASCAR jersey auction scheduled for January; I know those will go for some serious money. Not from me, though. I’m safe for this season. I don’t like the regular jerseys and don’t really care for NASCAR. I would have liked to have one of the God Bless Fort Benning jerseys, though.

Today is the day the protesters of the (former) School of the Americas have their solemn funeral procession to the gates of Fort Benning, then carry their silly butts on post to get arrested. I don’t understand why they protest here since there is no one on post with the authority to close the school. Several of my friends and I have come up with two theories: a) hotel rooms are cheaper; b) the weather is better. Ah, well - free speech is a wonderful thing. I just wish they would carry their free speech elsewhere.

I am feeling lazy today. I need some motivation. Hell, I need some more sleep.

We are talking of carpet cleaning too. The initial plan was to muck out the den today and then wait until 8:00 pm or so to steam clean the carpet. Why?

Because Og forbid my son or husband have to live without the computer for a day.

However, I pointed out that this carpet is seriously trashed and it’ll probably take me an inordinate amount of time just to spot treat the stains in the carpet. After that, because I’m extremely anal with this sort of stuff, it’ll take me a good while to actually clean the carpet with the steam cleaner. I go over the carpet several times to ensure that I’ve sucked all the water out.

So, now the plan is to steam clean the den carpet on Friday night. We’ll see.

The beef burgundy is smelling very, very good.

My tummy is kinda rumbly. I think I’m gonna make me sammich in an hour or so.

Very cute kitty.

Well…I’ve scored an invitation to dinner, so I can be all industrious this afternoon and then go and delight people with a wonderful dessert. I’m thinking I may go to the bakery and find something seriously chocolate.

Maybe now, before I let myself get sucked into clean up.

Excellent idea.

GT

That kitten is definitely squee-worthy!

We have decided to make a new rule: He whose trees drop the leaves has to pick them up. We just finished bagging up about 24 bags of leaves from our postage-stamp-sized yard. Mind you, we have one 15-foot birch tree and one 15-foot maple tree on the property, and that’s it. But we’re surrounded by tall old oaks, maples, hickories, etc. We are both sick to death of picking up leaves.

I also discovered an unexpected obsessive-compulsiveness that apparently my now deceased father implanted in me well – it’s not good enough to pick up most of the leaves, it’s absolutely critical to get them all. Papa Tigs was not amused. Of course, his father made them mark out the rows in their acre-sized garden with stakes and string, and they had to be exactly 33 inches apart. So while he doesn’t share my leaf obsession, he understands it. I settled for letting him miss some spots today – that I’ll go back out and clean up tomorrow when he’s not here to mock me! Ha! That’ll larn him!

I am now firmly planted in my comfy desk chair, and plan to stay here until the heavenly-smelling roast that’s in the oven is done. We’re having it with baked sweet **N.O.T.**s and I don’t know what else. My tummy is already looking forward to it!

The beagle has been bathed. I took a nap, and am cruising the Intarweb. I’m having steak and baked **N.O.T.**s.

Cute kitten, but I don’t think Maggie and Lucretia would not be thrilled to share their apartment with a snot nosed kid.

Just unloaded the kiln - success, mostly. Some of the pieces are really gorgeous. Some are ugly. One cracked - I think the temp differential was too much for that one thin piece. But that’s fine - it wasn’t that great a piece anyway. Mostly it was a success because I solved the glaze problem. Yay.

And I learned that burgundy doesn’t work. Oh well.

Pics will follow when the pieces cool down and when I have time - later this week.

Time to get some crab legs on the stove. YUMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM

This has been an industrious MMP. 915 posts! Mine will be 916 unless somebody beats me to it then it’ll be 917 or 918… whatever, right?

Back from making up and delivering Thanksgiving baskets. We delivered six baskets. I say we, cause, ACBG arose from the dead (his afternoon nap) about one-thirty as I was about to head out the door and said, “I’m goin’ too! I wanna help!” So he splashed some cold water on his face, gargled with some mouthwash to get rid of after nap breath and off we went. Thanks to buzzed haircuts no hair combing was involved. The good thing about buzzed hair is it always looks the same, so there’s no such thing as bed head. So anyways, I followed him to his house to drop off his vehicle then we headed over to fill and deliver baskets. Afterwards I dropped him off at his house (he needs to finish laundry tonight, poor thing) and headed home. I’ve had a couple beerverages and foresee a couple more. I also foresee a fairly early bedtime tonight cause I did not nap this afternoon as is my usual Sunday afternoon custom, so I’m tahred.

The good news is, three day work week! YAY! The bad news is, I gotta get stuff done for Turkey Day Thursday then I’m goin’ up on Friday to spend the weekend with family. ACBG will do the same thing on Friday. We’ll also be apart during Christmas but will celebrate New Year’s together. We consider that our holiday. Not that we go all wild or anything cause there will be the usual gang of people over to eat their greens and blackeyed peas for New Year’s so they will have money and good luck in 2007. I see that as my job to start 'em off right. Then if they screw up they have nobody to blame but themselves. So There! :stuck_out_tongue:

Actually, as far as Turkey Day goes, I have dressing already made up. It’s in the freezer and all it needs is cookin’. Mr. Turkey is defrosting in my beerator in the laundry room. He’s a twelve pounder and will get all et up on the day. I’ve got sweet N.O.T. already baked for the pies which I’ll cook Wednesday night. Mr. Turkey will go in the oven Turkey Day morning early and be all ready for the feast at one p.m. People will start arriving around elevenish that morning. There will be munchies (courtesy of somebody else) and mimosas (courtesy of us) and Bloody Mary’s (courtesy of a friend who makes a dang good BM). Lots of sides will be brought in. Oh, and I’ll cook the collards Wednesday evening and heat 'em up on TDay. Greens are good cooked the night before and reheated just before serving. Mellows 'em out real good. The giblet gravy (the real reason for the whole thing) will be prepared just before the feast is served. OOH! I also found out that somebody is bringing a caramel cake made by this lady who makes the nummiest cakes in the world. Said cake was pre-ordered two weeks ago and will be picked up on Wednesday. It is soooooooo nummy! YAY!!!

Is that enough rambling for one post? It is? Good. Cause I’m all through now.

Errr… make that nine pages 416 posts. 417 posts with this one. What? Did I claim to be good at math? :stuck_out_tongue:

Lucky for you, swampy, we love you despite your math shortcomings.

Crab legs have been consumed. In some ways I wish I’d cooked more. I also wish we had some dessert-like substance in the house, not that we need it. Oh well.

Laundry is done. Dishwasher is running. Bed is preheating (we turn on our electric blanket to get the sheets all toasty before we crawl in. The weekend is winding down. Thank goodness for a short week.

Like I said, did I ever claim to be good at math? So There! :stuck_out_tongue:

Think I’ll go have one more beerverage and then climb in the bed. It’s cool enough that I’ll even pull up the bedspread tonight. That means it’s practically the dead of Winter! I don’t do that until February usually.

ACBG reports that his laundry is all done. I’m glad to know he’ll have clean drawers next week. Then again I happen to know there are three three packs of brand new drawers he has yet to open. How do I know you ask? Well, all three packs are sitting in the floor of my closet. Wonder if he remembers buyin’ 'em yet.

Nitey nite y’all!

Not good at math? Waitaminute, swampy, don’t you do billing? :dubious:

Steak and **N.O.T.**s are cooking. I’m gonna have a beerverage, and call the folks. Tomorrow is a waay early day(5:00a.m.), so I am going to go to bed early.
