The level of dismissiveness here is stupid, but it’s par for the course for the MAGA impaired.
It was a violent, bloody assault. Cops were attacked, clubbed, one even had his gun taken from him and used to threaten him.
The members of Congress sure felt threatened. And that was while waiting in Senate chambers with armed guards.
It wasn’t easily handled. Cops were severely injured.
“Broke a couple of windows” is a stunning understatement. Damage exceeded $2.7 million.
Pipe bombs were placed near the Democratic and Republican Party Headquarters, and molotov cocktails were found in a vehicle near the Capitol.
It is true there were different levels of participation and involvement, and therfore different levels of preparation by various groups.
A large number of the participants were protestors incited by the President and encouraged by the mob scene. But there were more coordinated groups, like the Oath Keepers, with more solid plans to disrupt the government operations that day and interfere with the election certification, including plans for violence and even killing of elected officials.
And Pence was put under pressure. It’s noteworthy that he managed to pull out all the integrity he had saved up by ass-kissing Trump for four years to actually refuse to obstruct the certification, and he deliberately remained on Capitol grounds despite the Secret Service advice to ensure the verification would be continued rather than prevented.
Mike Pence was actually within reach of some of the insurrectionists. It was one quick-thinking police officer that pushed one of the intruders to get his attention, then lead them in a different direction.
If the Oath Keepers had gotten ahold of Mike Pence, Nancy Pelosi, or any of the most visible Democrats, they almost certainly would have killed them in some form of protest.
You are mischaracterizing the situation. The security member shot Ashley Babbitt because she actually penetrated the final security barrier, the last defensible line between assaulters and Congress members. He stopped at shooting only her because nobody else penetrated that barrier. He only shot her as the final effort to prevent total loss of control of the scene. He fully expected more people to try to come through that opening. That’s why that was the line for deadly action. It was the last control point.
If the Capitol police had used their firearms to prevent the entry to the building, it might have stopped the attack, or it might have triggered the Oath Keepers to get their weapons and bombs and escalated the violence. And regardless, the right wing would be spinning the story that the police overreacted and used deadly force unprovoked against peaceful protestors. They’d make it sound like Kent State.
On the scale of Revolutions, it was certainly a “nothing burger”. But it wasn’t a revolution. It was a violent attack to stop the election process, with a key faction planning more dramatic, deadly demonstrations. They just didn’t get the chance to murder any Congress members or the VP.
I now await your handwave dismissal and continued claim that Jan 6 was a bunch of unruly children.
