Ohio's anti-trans brigade continues

You’re making an absolutism argument for the sake of arguing. Nobody in the crowd shot anyone. The only person shot was from a Capital Police Officer who fired when they started to breach the door. Why he didn’t continue doesn’t make sense. Either he’s authorized to protect the building and it’s people or he’s not.

As a point of argument nobody in the crowd was armed with the intent to kill someone which is a significant point. It was a bunch of over-aged children who broke into the Capital building and ran around until they were rounded up and arrested.

I can’t believe you think that the George Floyd protests were real.

From the standpoint of an attempt to take over the government it was a nothingburger. There was never even the slightest possibility of success. Members of Congress were escorted to a safe location while they ran around the building.

It was a riot. And as riots go, not a very destructive one. It was easily shut down with the proper use of force which was eventually brought in.

No, I’m pointing out that you made a factual claim that was incorrect. Were this a court of law you’d be in severe trouble for claiming none of the traitors had guns.

Now then, about those “massive fires” you’ve yet to cite the existence of…

Arson damage during the George Floyd protests in Minneapolis–Saint Paul

George Floyd protests
However, arson, vandalism, and looting that occurred between May 26 and June 8 caused approximately $1–2 billion in insured damages nationally, the highest recorded damage from civil disorder in U.S. history, and surpassing the record set during the 1992 Los Angeles riots

None of that is true. You’re literally consuming propaganda.

That’s asinine. You’re clearly using absolutism in rebuttal to a statement regarding guns during a riot. Clearly guns were not intended to be used.

A bunch of discrete structure fires does not a “massive fire” make, but in any event you should have read your own cite - the majority of people arrested for those fires were white, and the only organization that could be linked to any of those fires was a right-wing accelerationist group.

Right. They must have stockpiled all those guns for show & tell.

If guns weren’t used in an attempt to kill someone then clearly that was the intent. That you wish it to be something it wasn’t is not realistic.

That’s not how that works, logically.

They didn’t bring a stockpile of guns to the Capital riot. So yes, that’s how it works logically.

Right. They just traveled across country with a large number of firearms and cached them in a hotel room a few minutes away in case they decided to go deer hunting while on their vacation to the urban sprawl that takes up most of the Atlantic seaboard.

Death is not miscarriage.

So what? Are you saying that attempted murder isn’t a serious crime?

And they weren’t chanting “Let’s take over the government”. They were chanting “Hang Mike Pence”.

Members of Congress were chased around the building while officers held off the mob. There is quite a lot of video of it. In one instance an officer had to shoot a rioter. You may have heard about it?

It was a deliberately planned riot incited by a sitting president and his circle to disrupt the certification of an election he lost. Which is why several people have been convicted of seditious conspiracy. Also - again - 140 police officers were injured.

Is there a reason you keep leaving out these salient details?

This isn’t remotely true. It was allowed to run its course for over four hours before Trump asked them to leave, while praising them.

Which has already been pointed out in this thread. So why did you claim otherwise?

I wonder how many convenience store robbers have successfully used the “I wasn’t intending to use the gun” in their defense?

Not a boogeyman. There is a reason women don’t have to compete against men in most sports, and somebody is trying to make sure that it isn’t going to be abused. One reason I can think of as to why there haven’t been that many is, how many have even been allowed before very recently?

On the other hand, what’s the solution - especially at sub-collegiate levels? You’re not about to make every girl who wants to play a high school sport have their blood tested.

I have a feeling that one of the right’s problems is, they feel that if you let one transgender woman in, you’re opening the door for anybody who says, “I identify as a female,” from playing in female sports. I doubt that this would ever be allowed, but you’re talking about people who probably believe, “If you ban one gun, it’s just the first step to banning all of them” (and some will then add, "The left feel the same way - just replace ‘gun’ with ‘abortion’ ").

The level of dismissiveness here is stupid, but it’s par for the course for the MAGA impaired.

It was a violent, bloody assault. Cops were attacked, clubbed, one even had his gun taken from him and used to threaten him.

The members of Congress sure felt threatened. And that was while waiting in Senate chambers with armed guards.

It wasn’t easily handled. Cops were severely injured.

“Broke a couple of windows” is a stunning understatement. Damage exceeded $2.7 million.

Pipe bombs were placed near the Democratic and Republican Party Headquarters, and molotov cocktails were found in a vehicle near the Capitol.

It is true there were different levels of participation and involvement, and therfore different levels of preparation by various groups.

A large number of the participants were protestors incited by the President and encouraged by the mob scene. But there were more coordinated groups, like the Oath Keepers, with more solid plans to disrupt the government operations that day and interfere with the election certification, including plans for violence and even killing of elected officials.

And Pence was put under pressure. It’s noteworthy that he managed to pull out all the integrity he had saved up by ass-kissing Trump for four years to actually refuse to obstruct the certification, and he deliberately remained on Capitol grounds despite the Secret Service advice to ensure the verification would be continued rather than prevented.

Mike Pence was actually within reach of some of the insurrectionists. It was one quick-thinking police officer that pushed one of the intruders to get his attention, then lead them in a different direction.

If the Oath Keepers had gotten ahold of Mike Pence, Nancy Pelosi, or any of the most visible Democrats, they almost certainly would have killed them in some form of protest.

You are mischaracterizing the situation. The security member shot Ashley Babbitt because she actually penetrated the final security barrier, the last defensible line between assaulters and Congress members. He stopped at shooting only her because nobody else penetrated that barrier. He only shot her as the final effort to prevent total loss of control of the scene. He fully expected more people to try to come through that opening. That’s why that was the line for deadly action. It was the last control point.

If the Capitol police had used their firearms to prevent the entry to the building, it might have stopped the attack, or it might have triggered the Oath Keepers to get their weapons and bombs and escalated the violence. And regardless, the right wing would be spinning the story that the police overreacted and used deadly force unprovoked against peaceful protestors. They’d make it sound like Kent State.

On the scale of Revolutions, it was certainly a “nothing burger”. But it wasn’t a revolution. It was a violent attack to stop the election process, with a key faction planning more dramatic, deadly demonstrations. They just didn’t get the chance to murder any Congress members or the VP.

I now await your handwave dismissal and continued claim that Jan 6 was a bunch of unruly children.

Shit, how did we get on this Jan 6 hijack?

People say a lot of stupid shit but there wasn’t the slightest chance of taking over the government during the riot. NONE.

You contradicted yourself in the same sentence. It was allowed to run it’s course. And you are correct.

Even Nancy Pelosi admits it. “As Nancy Pelosi was being evacuated from the Capitol on January 6, 2021 she admitted that, as Speaker of the House, she was responsible for the security failures, and for not having the National Guard at the Capitol,” said Chairman Loudermilk .
