Always picking on OJ. He got arrested twice in 13 years. Poor Guy.
I’ll drop out of this thread after saying this: I don’t know whether he was guilty or innocent or is guilty or innocent. I Do know that darn near everything in a modern casino (and Palace Station is a modern casino; one patronized the last time I was there mostly by people who work & live in Vegas) is under video tape.
There’s no getting around that the truth, whatever it is, will out and in a definitive manner.
[Not much of] A riddle:
What did Nelson Muntz say to OJ?
Ok, I’ll bite. What DID Nelson Munz say to OJ?
[NM]
HA-ha!
[/NM]
(I’m sure someone can find the appropriate sound file for us…)
I had planned to steer as clear as possible froma ny awareness of this, OJ has claimed enough of my brain cells.
Then I heard this evening that the charges against him could result in life in prison.
Hallelujah! Let’s hope the Vegas jury isn’t half as insane as the original one, and that man finally ends up where he belongs, the smarmy murdering fuck.
Your wish, my command
Ha-Ha!
Link is a bit wanky.
In other news, OJ’s bail is set at $125,00.
::doning flame retardant suit::
I believe in karmic justice as much as the next person (and I think OJ is a murderer), but what I’m not understanding is how the man could realistically be seeing six felony counts and a life sentence for this crime. Isn’t there a possibility that the possessions in question were wrongfully obtained by the guy who was held up? (Which is why I suspect he talked about dropping the charges.) I’m not a lawyer, but it seems like that is a factor that may come into play here.
There’s a lot worse things that could happen than OJ getting locked up for a long time, but I wouldn’t be surprised if the sentence he gets is considerably shorter. And it wouldn’t have anything to do with his race or celebrity. Sounds to me like the prosecution is in overkill, which will give his defense team (assuming he can afford a good one) just the ammo it needs to claim that OJ is being unfairly treated.
I think the count is up to ten felonies. The potential life sentence comes from the kidnapping charge, which results from the fact that the people in the room were being held against their will (according to the prosecution.) IMO, he is being charged with everything that fits, perhaps to strengthen the prosecution’s hand in the case of a plea bargain. I doubt anyone believes that he really is in jeopardy of facing life in prison.
It may well come into play. Although retrieving your stolen property at gunpoint will usually result in charges.
I suspect you are right.
He was much so more interesting in the past, when he was a three-dimensional, realistic character— before he became a complete moron who’s always getting into utterly implausible situations…
Wait, which Simpson are we talking about, again?
And he posted bail. No doubt to continue his search for the real killers. Added to that, he’s vowed to find the real perpetrators of the attempted Palace Station heist.
It’s possible, but a normal person would file a lawsuit to make the casino give the stuff back. Taking things away at gunpoint is the sort of activity that the law usually turns a jaundiced eye toward.
I think the fifty-thousand charges (or whatever they’re up to now) is just ridiculous, and is probably going to help the defense. Basically, it looks like “The Man” is trying to get a second chance to put him away for the murders. I can sympathize with that mindset, but justice shouldn’t work like that. I don’t want to erode an important safeguard against governmental abuse just so O.J. serves 20 years in prison rather than 15.
Please tell me this isn’t European notation*, for the pendulum would truly have swung completely the other way.
*$125,00 = One Hundred Twenty-Five Dollars.
It’s just poor writing on my part. The cite has the correct figure.
Given that only his pension is protected from the civil judgement, where did he get $125,000 cash?
It could be a secured bond, or perhaps a friend paid it.
I think it’s pretty clear that he is good at hiding his assets. To the best of my knowledge, he has paid the Goldmans around ten thousand of the thirty million judgment.
My guess to this and to what others who’ve speculated on regarding his now-needed skilled attorneys, if he hopes to get off: (i) certain people, especially celebrities (infamous or not) always seem to attract support, including possible financial support from others; and (ii) some high profile attorneys will take a case just because of its notiriety and the publicity it engenders.
There have been so many cases I’ve seen where the person couldn’t have had or raised the money needed to pay such attorneys and it also made me wonder how the they contacted or retained the attorney so quickly.
(I knew what you meant, Contrapuntal, just messin’ with you.)
OK, motherfucker, you’re on the list. Nobody move!* Up against the wall! * Did you think you could just bust my chops and get away with it?
I saw a thing on the news earlier that OJ gets three pensions. From football, from acting, and from broadcasting. The piece said he receives 30 grand a month total from these, and all are protected under law from the judgment for the Goldman family.
I am not saying this is accurate, just what the reporter said.
