I lurk far more often than I post, and when I do post it’s primarily in GD, but this is too much to keep quiet about…

What in the name of all that’s holy does being in the Pit have to do with whether or not you get your facts straight? What is up with people who think that just because they’re in the Pit that intellectual standards are somehow relaxed or rendered non-existent? I’m sure Lynn and Alphagene appreciate the sentiment. It would seem to me to be exactly the opposite – if you’re in a forum where it’s perfectly okay for someone to rip you a new one, you would do well to make sure that what you post is as accurate as possible.

Here’s a clue, dtl – this is still part of TSD, you know, “fighting ignorance” and all. Posting historical inaccuracies can be forgiven, but to say that you don’t care that they’re inaccurate is antithetical to the stated purpose of this site.

Well, I was curious as to why this particular mud-wrestling match was still going on (four pages, sheesh!) And now that I’ve been sucked in, I couldn’t help going to the two websites concerning Dutch kiddie porn that DTL provided.

One is from the Save the Children Foundation, and the other is from a Porn on the Internet group of some kind (they’re anti-, not pro-.) They both look legitimate, so I don’t question the statistics they showed.

As to whether they proved that “most of the world’s child pornography comes from the Netherlands”, eh, I’d have to say that no, neither website really proved that. Both sites included a lot of anecdoctal stuff, but as far as proving anything, no, I don’t think so.

Also, a big “duh” here: as Coldfire already pointed out, manufacturing kiddie porn is just as illegal in the Netherlands as it is in the U.S., so what in the world difference does it make whether circumstantial evidence may possibly point to an awful lot of kiddie porn coming out of Amsterdam or wherever? So what? What does it have to do with this thread? Why not insult him by saying, “Ha! The Netherlands have the ugliest dairy cattle in the world!” or, “the craze for Dutch tulips and hyacinths consumes far too many of the world’s resources–boycott the wasteful Dutch bulb industry!” or, “Who says the Dutch know anything about land reclamation? I’ve got 20 bucks here that says the Army Corps of Engineers could build circles around that bunch of clog-wearing ditch-diggers!” or even, “Rutger Hauer is getting fat and ugly, so there!”

See? If you’re going to pointlessly insult somebody, at least be creative.

Actually, I wasn’t either slamming or not slamming, merely pointing out that you added a totally irrelevant, not to say pointless insult to a thread, and then supposedly backed it up, but with two links that don’t really prove anything. So is that a slam or not?

(And BTW, although I normally don’t focus on gender issues, it’s Duck Duck Goose, not Drake Drake Gander. For some reason I find it annoying to be referred to as male by a fraternity house synonym for urination.)

Here’s the thing, Lizard… I’m trying to make it apparent that you don’t have the best track record. But you’ve said a lot of stuff that, even if you didn’t intend to, came off in a very bad light. Other stuff, such as your unwarranted attacks against Monster_104 (why oh why would you want to include insults to his personal poetry?), simply made the “bad light” stuff seem even worse, which is why you’ve come under fire now. What’s worse, you also seem completely unrepentant. Combine these three aspects of many of your recent posts, and I can’t blame anyone else for being rather on edge with you.

Just more proof that dtl is indeed ignorant. By not realizing his original ignorance in his statements about WWII, the Holocaust, child porn, and whatever bile he spewed out onto all our monitors, he remains even more ignorant than before.

Seems obvious to me (a complete outsider, hell hardly ANYONE ever replies to my posts…):

in my experience, communication works best if the info I submit is the same as you recieve. Stuff happens in between that all the time. Vocal inflections (“you said it sarcastically”), body language (eye rolling etc.) or for the electronic medium emoticoms or the lack thereof. There’s also at times, language barriers where slang in one area may mean something completely different in another.

when this happens and some one misunderstands either what you said or your intent, back off. simple as that.

allow me, please, to tell a little story. I work with convicts. one of them, prior to her being locked up, would hang out with her friends, and they’d call each other “Bitch”. “Bitch, get me a coke” and so on, without rancor, much as others might say “girlfriend”. No problem, until she got locked up with inner city women who didn’t take to being called “bitch” even if she meant it in the nicest possible way. She got beat up alot, cause it was HER position that she wasn’t doing anything wrong, they were just not taking her words the way she intended.

Take the lesson Mr. Lizard, please. Even if you MEANT it in the nicest possible way, others took serious offense.

Now, as to the others who are keeping this whole thing alive. geez again. Apparently, it isn’t getting through to him that his words upset people and that’s bad. If you can’t convince him that pissing off other people is a bad thing and should be avoided, ignore him.

I’m a Jew, DTL, and the irony is that when you first posted your comment about the Holocaust, I told Coldfire that I wasn’t offended by it. I don’t really offend easily - or at least I try not to. I just marked you off as an ignoramus worthy of the “ignore button.” However, after having read the above quoted item, I finally felt compelled to reply since it’s somewhat directed to me (although not personally, I realize this).

As a Jew, but more as a human being, I cannot in good conscience accept this apology. Why? Because it’s hollow and meaningless. Until it comes from your heart with all sincerity, those are completely worthless words. And I can tell you don’t really mean it.

The other reason is that you seem to feel that the only people who are allowed to have felt insulted by your comments are Jews. I’m certain you are aware that there were millions of other groups affected by the horrors of the Holocaust, right? And you couldn’t be that ignorant, not to realize that you didn’t have to have a family member incinerated in order to have been touched by the horror, could you?

I won’t beat a dead lizard quoting facts that will surely go over your head. I just wanted to let you know that your lame excuse for an apology is not accepted by this Jew. Try again.
