Afternoon, mumpers! Today our fine sunny weather has given way to cool winds and lots of grey clouds. I don’t mind, means the Polish idiots next door will stay inside so we get some peace from the 1980s techno music they like playing at full volume when they’re outside.
We had an eventful weekend after all - I spent most of Friday finishing my project for work so that’s now done. I had to email the course trainer about one thing so hopefully she’ll reply to that tomorrow and then I can upload it and forget all about it. Metalmouse, the course is accredited by the Institute of Leadership and Management so we don’t get an A grade (I think these days it’s A* now, or maybe two stars, hard to keep track), instead you get a pass or a good pass, and if you do really badly it’s a referral and you get to try again. There have been five assignments, I passed all of those and got good passes for some sections of those too. The final two units didn’t have an assignment, they combine to form the project instead. I wrote around 12.5K words so that should be quite enough!
On Saturday we decided to walk into the town centre, it’s about a mile from home. The open-air market which had been closed since March was opening up again so 'im indoors said he’d like to go and see what it was like. His favourite butcher has a stall there and is his regular brisket supplier. It was a nice walk, and on the way we found our second favourite butcher was open, they only have a small shop so only one person allowed in at a time. He bought a large quantity of chicken thighs, some pork steaks with a hot and spicy coating, and a big pork joint so he’s putting that on for few hours and it’ll be pulled pork tonight.
The market was quiet, probably because it was late in the day when we got there, they had a separate entrance and exit roped off, and a one-way direction around the outer edge of the market. Only a few stalls were open, one of them was his favourite butcher so he got some brisket from her. The Jamaican food stall was also open and we got six tubs of hot and spicy curry mix from there, it’s the only place that sells it in town so we were lucky. Only the meat and fish stalls were open today, the baker had a notice saying they’re opening on Tuesday, one of the veg traders was there but none of the others so it might be busier next week.
After that, we went to one other store to get decent bread rolls and ham, and I managed to track down a couple of cartons of lactose-free semi-skimmed milk. My supermarket hasn’t had any for ages so I’ve had to buy skimmed and full-fat, and combine the two to get the right taste.
Today is going to be a quiet one, I might vacuum the floors, then again I might lay on the sofa with a book. Decisions, decisions.
