I hate spam. However, I have gotten used to penis enlargement, breast enlargement, “CHEEEP VY-A-GRA”, cum-guzzling transvestite asian lesbian farmgirls doing every animal in sight and Japanese tentacle porn. But today’s newest spam did it:
Subject: Help for Christians, Lower Debt with Christian Debt Management.
Christian Debt management
We invite you to a free consultation and with no obligation.
Let one of the caring professionals at Christian Debt Management show you how easy it is to get back on the path …
… to financial security.
“… and forgive us our debts” (Matt. 6:12)
Holy fuck! Is this offensive or what? I am not even a Christian, and I am offended. “Caring professionals” my ass. I know what you care about - you care about money. How dare these idiots (sorry for offending idiots) misuse a quote from the bible like this? In what way do they think passing their spam off as “Christian” makes it any better?
What will be next? Christian porn spam? Pictures of naked chicks with a few quotes from the song of Solomon?
What’s the problem? There are debt management programs for women. Debt management programs for Blacks. Debt management programs for Gays and Lesbians. And debt management programs for Muslims. Why not debt management programs for Christians?
As for the OP, chill. A couple Christians got together and decided to form a company that catered to a niche…what’s the big deal? There’s lots of niche companies these days. The quote might be misused, but if it’s in there with ellipsis and the source is quoted, it just falls in line with most other sources that have very small statements quoted.
It’s almost a standard these days to take a very small quote, properly cite it and deliberately take it out of context. See Bush’s political ads, for example.
Well, insofar as the spam aspect goes, these particular Christians clearly do not have a grasp on the “do unto others” ideal. But given their misuse of the phrase from the Lord’s Prayer right there in the spam, that’s not surprising.
I doubt that this is a real company at all. If it is, I’d make a WAG that those in charge are CINO and are handily using a few Christian-esque turns of phrase to capitalize on a very lucrative niche market.
And? What exactly is the problem with that? This is a free market and no matter how they use the Lord’s prayer, it’s their right. It’s all marketing, people.
