OK, Trek Dopers...A Question for You

In one Next Gen episode, Dr. Laura Schlessinger has a cameo appearance.

  1. What episode?

  2. Where can she be seen during the show?

No, this isn’t a trivia question.

I’ve looked everywhere for this one but can’t find a darned thing–except that she’s a Star Trek fan and she was on an episode of Quantum Leap. I’d be interested to know which STNG she was on. How could I have missed that?

I’m inclined to doubt it. NextGen went off the air in 1994. Was Schlessinger nationally famous enough at that point to get a cameo?

John Tesh and Mick Fleetwood, on the other hand…

Well, she was famous enough to be on Quantum Leap in '92, so it is possible time-wise.

Well, imdb.com lists her Quantum Leap appearance as “Herself”, and while I can imagine her fitting into the Quantum Leap premise (a running bit was the time-travelling Sam Beckett briefly interacting with famous people before they became famous, and sometimes influencing them into pursuing the activities that eventually made them famous - I thought this was presumptuous and distasteful, myself) I don’t see what role she could have played in NextGen, and since imdb.com is pretty thorough, I’m willing to bet Schlessinger never appeared there.

She mentioned it on her show yesterday, that she had a non-speaking role.

Perhaps that’s why imbd doesn’t have it.

Let’s keep looking!

Didn’t even make the B list.

She probably was not credited in the ep, since she didn’t have a speaking role. IMDB probably doesn’t have her listed because she was uncredited, and no one has been able to spot which ep she was in to have her credit added.

imdb had Tesh’s nonspeaking role on NextGen listed.

If her role was really insignificant, i.e. as a background extra with no lines or interaction with the main characters, then why is it important for us to search?

Did a search on StarTrek.com, too.

Not listed.
Burden of proof falls on her. :dubious:

Found her!

Very funny, NCB.

(By the way, my sarcastic tone covers my jealousy for not thinking of it first.)

My life is now complete.
Q, beam me out of here!

NCB, that gave me the best laugh I’ve had all morning. Thanks!

Because I’m curious, and Dopers know everything.

Seems we’ve been stumped. I did a Google search and nothing.

Let’s keep looking. This is bugging me.

An uncredited, ND, NA extra might not have made it to any fan site. And it isn’t on the official site.

I’ll e-mail my old friend at UPN and see if she knows. Her husband wrote some TNG guides and she was in continuity on DS9 and Voy.

If I get anything, I’ll post it here.

I wonder if she’s making it up, honestly… you’d think something like this would be known in the Trek pantheon by now.

Not saying she is making it up, as it’s possible she was an uncredited extra… but has anyone considered the possibility that she’s just pulling this out of her ass (ew, I know).

Or, maybe she considers this a “non-speaking” appearance.

In Quantum Leap Sam became Dr.Laura. So we had him running around in a dress for the episode, and then later on their personalities started to merge and Sam began acting like her.

It was a strange episode.
