I’m attracted to smart, sane women.
This is what is known as a “Catch-22.”

This is what is known as a “Catch-22.”
Tall, fit and very male. Bright and confident. Light-colored eyes a plus…
I don’t have a type.
I lived with a 6 ft tall blond with big boobs for 5 years. smart and honest
I had a 4 yr relationship with a girl who was flat but real pretty and great legs ,smart and fun
I lived with a girl for 2 years that was 4 ft 11 and a petite
I dated a woman for 2 yrs who was 5 ft 10 and a serious athlete.
I just meet them, get to know them and it goes from there. I have no preconceptions . Sometimes who I am with surprises my friends . I am not big on boobs. Anything more than an armfull is a waste.
Brown hair
6’ or taller (at 5’2" it’s not something I consciously seek out but every guy I’ve ever dated was taller than average)
Lean, muscular build
Short or close-cropped hair
Clean shaven
Geeky interests but socially adept
Affectionate but not sappy
I’ve dated a number of types. One friend seems to only remember my ex-wife, and has commented that every single woman I’ve dated or shown an interest in since is different. Heights have ranged from 4’6" to 6’, weights from 85 to 175 lbs, hair from blonde to black (with stops at green, purple, etc.) and from buzz-cut to waist-length, religions from evangelical Christianity to Wicca, personalities from painfully introverted to obnoxiously extroverted, etc. The only real constant is that I really seem to fall for women with round faces.
I do have a few “types” regarding appearance which make me turn my head when I pass someone on the street, and they’re ridiculously disparate:
Goth/punk/emo types. Former punk kid, and old preferences die hard, I suppose. Unnatural hair colors, choppy hair (even mohawks), lots of piercings and tattoos, caked-on cheap makeup, tattered clothing? Yum.
Pentecostal (and other similarly-dressed religious) women. Long hair, no makeup, modest clothes? MmmMMMmm.
Young professional women who are dressed for work; librarians, engineers, etc.
Dark-haired, big-eyed, narrow-shouldered, small-breasted, thin-wristed, wide-hipped, light-skinned, sad-looking.
For many years I considered my type to be tall, dark - his hair and his bitter heart! - decoratively perforated, brooding and malnourished - Jonny Greenwood by way of Trent Reznor, if you would.
Then I fell - oh, and how I fell! - for a short, blonde, capital-C Conservative evangelical carbohydrate enthusiast with all the natural cynicism of the Andrex puppy, who likes to play the theremin and faints if he gives a blood sample.
Type # 2 is so much more fun.
Smart.
Thin is good.
I like brunettes & redheads, but not exclusively.
I like freckles. Not dark pinprick freckles, but broad soft freckles.
Female, and lazy, so I’m stealing Anne Neville’s post.
Ditto.
Same concept, but replace “game” with “book”.
Essential.
Ditto.
Ack, no! Must be amenable to keeping the heat down and putting on a damn sweater. I hate being hot.
Physical:
Basically, though, “tall, skinny, funny geek who likes animals” about covers it.
Straight, 24 year old Female.
Physically:
1.Tall, this is a must. I am not attracted to short me, I can’t help it.
2. Blue eyes, or blue-ish green
2. Prominent features… ie. large noses, chins, jaws, basically a big manly face.
3.Manly hands, the rougher the better.
4. Feet need to… well, be manly but nice looking and well taken care of.
5. Hairy is fine, I like a hairy chest, just keep the hair on your head clean and short.
6. I like muscles, as long as they don’t look like they go to the gym every day. I want you to be able to pick me up because you work hard everyday, not because you lift weights. Natural muscle is a turn on.
7. Penis size is important! In my case though, average with reasonable girth. Not huge ones please, they hurt.
Otherwise: I need humor! Loyalty, generosity, protectiveness and he can’t be quick tempered, because I am. He has to be kind, I can’t handle cruelty in any form. I like men that are just a bit big in the ego. Not enough to be a jerk, but enough that they have confidence in themselves.
I have this guy now actually, but shh don’t tell him… it’ll go to his head.
A spark of hope!
Girl, 17, German Brunette, green/grey/blue eyes w/ flecks of brown, very short (5’), despite living in Hawaii very pale, smart enough to recognize proper punctuation and know the word vapid, not whiny but definitely wordy, especially in description. Matches description previously quoted, but is a style-chameleon, and is on the lesser side of makeup and height.
I have clusters of preferences, mixing and matching sometimes can and can’t be done.
Native American- long hair (preferably straight), one of the two times where toned is attractive.
Scandinavian- Toned, but must be rugged and have small town lifestyle. Very tall, will carry me and has big, wide smiles. Blonde extrovert
Tall enough, dark hair, stubble sometimes, introvert, wears boots and jeans, and is really best as a fictional character, for a girl character.
Things that I would fall for:
-Multilingual,
-not influenced by Japanese culture, pet peeve
-charmingly geeky- owns Star Trek series but wouldn’t be president of a convention,
-reads for pleasure and someone who finds TED talks interesting,
-NICE GUY- I’ve never, ever, ever liked bad boys.
-financially responsible
-open minded, and doesn’t form hasty opinions
-knows when to use “I” and “me”, doesn’t text like a caveman
There’s a bit of want for the early graduate, freelance professor and someone who has had girlfriends that if seen ten years later, would get along civilly, possibly exchange Christmas cards later on in adulthood and someone self sufficient, grounded, simple (not in the head, though)
Hey, that’s Mrs. J.! (except for the “small” boobs).
Keep your distance, buster.
That is one of my favorite character types, I could reread books with one for days on end!
and the theremin? swoon Embodiment of everything to like about puppies
So I learned a new word today.
The only thing that’s changed in three years is that I don’t think height really matters to me. I might even have a slight preference for shorties, because they fit so well with me. I’m 5’3, my husband is 5’7, and I consider that perfect. When you can actually look into each others’ eyes without straining your neck - that’s a match.
Official request to the mods to not kill my zombie.
Small, soft (but by NO means overweight), intelligent, empathetic, no kids, a few cool tattoos, non-religious, white or latino and 30 or under. Das my baby…
I have come to realize that a young Dustin Hoffman is my platonic ideal. Almost all of the men that catch my eye (and more) look something like him.
Like melodyharmonious, I’m 5’8" and like to wear heels, so he’s got to be at least 6’. I’ve dated 5’10" and didn’t like it nearly as much (purely height-wise) as 6’4".
Dark hair, glasses. Enough hair for me to run my fingers through, but not longer than chin-length. Solid enough to toss me around, and I don’t care about a few extra pounds as long as it’s not a lot extra, and he doesn’t have a complex about it. There’s nothing less sexy than a man constantly moaning about his weight.
Other than that, INTELLIGENT. I am, and conversation is just as important as attraction, and can go about three-quarters of the way with a guy I wouldn’t otherwise be interested in.
PASSIONATE. About almost anything, though artsy helps. History, language, art, and we’ll have something in common. Cars, woodworking, tabletop gaming, what the hell, I’ll probably find it interesting. As long as it’s not video games.
Pretty much everything else can be solved by being hopelessly into me.
Not too thin, or too fat. A little on the chubby side maybe. Opinionated, smart (not necessarily nerdy) and sporty. Open minded and maybe a little on the crazy side. Someone who can step outside of their comfort zone. This seems pretty specific to me, but I don’t always stick to it.
