Previously in MPSIMS, Opal had posted:
To which your moderators (you being higher on the list) closed at or about 12-03-2002 08:25 PM MST.
Opal’s post was very mild. She just went through surgery and was trying to pass time by making light of her surgery.
YET, your mods felt it inappropriate enough to close her thread. Then two hours later you felt the need to post your stupid thread in IMHO.
I am miffed, completely.
There was nothing inappropriate with her post but more importantly it appears you are taunting her with your Admin powers. I am sure that is incorrect but it sure looks that way considering the two threads and the outcome.
While I don’t normally call the admins or the mods out on stuff, I find this completely wrong. I see seriously worse threads than hers and then I saw your thread I was completely flabbergasted that YOU would even consider starting a thread like that almost two hours after her thread was shunned by your staff and closed.
I think that your thread should be deleted and a personal apology be given directly and on the boards to OpalCat for some bad judgement on your part. I am highly disappointed and mad enough to bring this to the Pit. If the admins or the mods ever did anything like that to me I would be absolutely furious.
It’s kind of like “nananananana, I can talk about it in crude terms but you can’t joke about it. I have power…nanananana.”
Have to admit, I was a bit surprised to see the OP of the thread in question – but then again, mods and admins are allowed to be ordinary Dopers now and then. The choice of word used may have been a little unwise.
Well, heck! I wanted to ask Opal if her surgery was a gastric bypass. If so, getting up and moving around, though it hurts like hell, helps. Baby oatmeal and baby bananas saved me.[/hijack]
Yes, they are allowed to be regular contributors. However, when a member’s thread is closed I find it in poor taste for an admin to start a similar/almost exact thread about the same exact topic with crude terms that most members would be chastised for but the member’s thread was closed. The admin was free and clear to discuss it.
That’s my beef.
Yes, CK helps run the behind scenes of this board, there’s a lot going on but that doesn’t give any admins or mods free reign to start a thread like that, in my eyes.
Thank you mikan that was my initial thought even though I am torn. I dont’ think that CK was doing it to be mean spirited (course I have been wrong a million plus times) I think it was just in poor taste. Given this idea, then CK needs to step up to the plate and apologize.
If CK has any idea of what is going on with the SDMB then, yes, it’s mean spirited. If CK is that busy then maybe some time devoted to the boards, outside of other internet pursuits, is in order considering that CK is an admin. Or at least keep up with what is really going on with thread closing and such.
I generally think very highly of the admins and the mods here but this one just screamed to me a complete unfairness. Complete and utter bullshit, for lack of a better term.
But you already knew that.
Oh and for my SDMB friends. I don’t frequent the boards as much as I used to. So if it takes me a while to respond, I apologize. It’s about 30 minutes to me getting in some sleep and I probably wont be back till tomorrow night but I will try to swing by during the day.
God forbid someone doesn’t answer their own bitch thread.
Ice Wolf no, I haven’t. I will probably be publicly flogged for not doing so but this is the Pit and there are times, when I think it appropriate for others to see other’s concerns.
This kind of behaviour on CK’s part affects the entire board. If it were something minor, then an email is in order. However, given the nature of this “offense” and the fact that one of the main purposes of the Pit is to voice your opinion about the administration of this board, I felt it most appropriate to bring this to the public eye.
Member vs member, major bitch, okay, board. Member vs member, minor bitch, email…admins pulling something like this, I feel it completely appropriate to address this in the public eye.
Wouldn’t be me doing th’ flogging, techchick68. I was just asking out of interest, and to find out if CK will be aware of this thread anytime soon, for his 2 cents worth.
Techchick68, it appears you are 100% correct. I usually avoid the Pit, but if CK’s thread is funny or in good humor, it is an entirely private joke, and it looks like…
Well, it looks like mocking someone who is constipated due to recent surgery by suggesting that people post scenarios of the patient defecating throughout history. That just isn’t funny. The original thread by OpalCat seemed to be asking for get well wishes (please get well and happy poops and all that Katherine), but CK’s thread, even without the closing of the original thread is just nasty.
Wasn’t there recently a poster who was in good humor bemoaning the impending explosion of his testicles while awaiting a sperm count appointment? That invited humor and we could do a poster’s balls exploding at inopportune times instead:
Captain Poster, master of the Titanic, is racing to New York on the Titantic’s “maiden” run, frantic to make it to “any port in a storm” when he crashes into an iceberg in the North Atlantic, prematurely sending his “little swimmers” out into the frozen waters to die of “exposure”. Uncounted numbers of the “little swimmers” were not able to make it to the coast of Lab (rador), where it was expected that one in 100 million had a chance of eventually becoming human…
No, I had a DS but the end result is similar (though I have a functional stomach (if smaller) while gastric bypass patients have a pouch). I have been up and around a lot, and haven’t really been hurting that much. I am not really concerned, but I am nervous–as anyone would be. I’ll be happier once my new digestive system has “proven itself” so to speak. I actually ate some food tonight. Just a tiny bit of stuffing, but it was real, honest to goodness food. We’ll see if anything … results.
As to techchick’s OP… I wasn’t aware of any of this until she pointed it out to me. I do think it’s curious. I don’t really understand CK’s thread, though… if I did it might make more sense to me.
Even more recently, there was a question in GQ about why corn apparently moves through the digestive “pipes” (is it OK to say “pipes”?) so quickly. And that drew some fairly graphic responses dealing with everything from post-pipe roast beef to platform toilets in Germany. Quite educational and entertaining, I thought.
I suppose the different standards being applied here could be partly due to the fact that these threads have appeared in different forums (GQ, MPSIMS, IMHO), with different moderators. But c’mon, Opal’s original thread was just plain funny, and not particularly high on the gross-out scale. Anyone too squeamish for the subject matter should have taken a clue from the thread’s title!
