(Old) 24 Hours of Labor- A Labor Day MMP

I hope you keep us updated, what an interesting project!!

And @susan this goes for you too. Do you work with a publisher or do you plan on self-publishing?

Well rats, I really hoped you all were closer to being done! But at least it sounds like you’re close to even being able to go out on day trips.

I’ll self-publish. I got very tired of editors who can’t edit and acquisitions folks/agents whose agenda must focus first on whether the book will make big sales for the publisher. I have many kinds of publishing experience, and at this stage of the game, I really just want to write and put it out there. I’m not trying to make a million bucks with my blockbuster. If I were, I would write that (heterosexual rom-com, love triangle, soft-core sex scenes, possibly a money scandal or a vampire, or both, AI cover that looks like the genre covers all the rest of them have for easy identification on a table at the front of the bookstore).

We had a good visit to the dog park. And now are on the back porch smoking ribs. A good day, I think.

Small turnout on our bridge. Flags and banners need to have hands on them, even though there’s no way for them to get loose. The other group, at the next bridge south of us had a bunch of people. Our banner said ‘We stand with immigrants’. We had a U.S. flag, and flags from Canada, Mexico, Ukraine, and El Salvador. We were there about an hour and a half. The other group (on the other overpass) was going to stay for a couple/few more hours.

There was a crash at the other group’s display. I guess people were paying more attention to the protest than their driving. One car rear-ended someone, and the front end was a mess.

Anyway, lots of honks and waves. Got flipped off a few times, and there were two audibles. But this is a Blue county in a Blue state.

I’m just going to bake the chicken, and crisp it in the broiler. I don’t feel like using the barbie after standing in the sun.

Hope everyone had a good holiday!

Sis and BIL popped in for a few minutes so’s BIL could measure the W/D and the nook where it will live. He’ll build the dolly and the shelf and next weekend, once the vent kit is in, he’ll do the installation.

It’s rained on and off all day here. Enough so that I wouldn’t drive in anything closer to the ground than a pick up truck. Tomorrow, I need to call the dental practice down the main drag and make an appointment. That infection that I thought was killed off in late July is back with a vengeance. I want it gone!

I did no labor on Labor Day. I did take a walk around the complex. I’m having an Old Fashioned, with a bacon cheeseburger with smoked Gouda and some fries.
I took the bus until my senior year, except for the times I’d walk to school through the woods and construction sites, maybe a couple of miles.

I assume those involve beans on toast.

I’m sorry. :frowning:

Congrats!

I let the machine pick the numbers, and I just buy a single ticket. One ticket boosts your chances an infinite amount over not buying any, but more than that really doesn’t boost your chances.

One of the best ciders I had was a dry tart one, almost like a Belgian Lambic. I think it was French.

The two best days in a boat owner’s life are the day they buy the boat and the day they sell it.

You forgot the day it sinks fully insured. That’s the best day of all.

Howdy Y’all! This has been a good day. We had fun at the cee-mint pond. We laughed, we drank and practiced our synchronized pool noodlin’. Think very ungraceful water ballet that involves whackin’ with pool noodles. Alcohol should be involved for the full effect. We et a late lunch/early sup. OYKW and I are tired so bedtime will be early.

Was the other one a pro-Palestine group?

Thankfully, no. There’s a large pro-Palestine group that crashes the big protests for specific issues (e.g., ‘No Kings’). Large banners, lots of flags, lots of signs, and they move in right up front.

Happy what is left of the long weekend to everyone.

I spent my day with many kindred spirits at the capital. It seems as though folks have many different reasons for being there, but everyone agreed on the main part. There were many thoughts and prayers for trumps health.

The weather was lovely, but a little warm in the afternoon. Currently it’s around 72F and I’m watching the hummers do their evening tank up.

Din was ham and bean soup served with sliced tomatoes. I suggested corn bread but he didn’t want the carbs. I had half of a ciabatta roll instead.

For some reason pool noodles were not the first thing that came to mind. Or even the second. At least one of us needs to get their mind out of the gutter.

I’m learning to love ciders, I had no idea about the variety available, they weren’t a thing in AZ.

I walked to elementary school after I was in the third grade. I was still able to take the bus, that was when Mom said I was old enough to walk so I did. Then I got a bike and the world was mine!

I went back to riding the bus in high school because riding my ten speed messed up my make-up and hair.

That really sucks, I hope you can be seen soonist.

Thank you for getting out there. Please tell the Mrs I said Thank You to her as well.

I am SO happy that this is working out for you. Is there a possibility that a very good dog might be able to hang out at work with you sometime in the future?

I used to work at a library. People (mostly older women) would write their names on the back flyleaf of their bodice rippers so they would know if they had already read it or not. There wasn’t any other way to tell the difference.

I think it would be better to be remembered for one or two good books than forgotten as soon as the many books were finished.

Start as soon as doggy arrives. Do nothing for dog. No feeding, no finding blankets or dishes or kennels, do nothing but pet dog and then go back to your crocheting. This won’t be your dog and you want it to know who to go to when it needs things.

Can you maybe find a basset rescue in your area? An adult hound should come house trained and with some manners. Plus, rescues usually want the critter back if it doesn’t work out.

I also agreed that he was a fox back in the day. Sadly, CHiPs isn’t something I can watch while stitching. I don’t really watch anything, I use the audio for background noise and use the screen to focus my eyes at a different distance every couple of stitches.

Listening to the dialog wasn’t fun (I had forgotten about the casual sexism and racism back then) but I kept focusing on the freeways because Dad helped build so many of them. Plus the cars and trucks and OMG the hair.

So, better to find some nice droning David Attenborough and glance up at butterflies or dinosaurs. I count better that way.

And…out of time, sorry for those who were missed.

I hope everyone had a great rest of their day, I’ve got stitching to do.

Dinner turned out well. Bone-in, skin-on chicken thighs, marinated about 24 hours in a zip-top bag with Wish Bone (?) Italian dressing from the ‘dollar’ store, baked on a rack, covered, for 45 minutes in a 375ºF oven, basted with the drippings and baked, uncovered, for an additional 20 minutes; plus corn onna cob. I also had half of an avocado with a dollop of mayonnaise. The Spousal Unit liked it, and Goo liked her tribute. (It’s cute the way she paws at my arm, but I have to make sure she keeps her claws in.) There’s one cooked thigh left, and two un-marinated, uncooked ones in the freezer.

Thanks, it’s not like I’ve been working on it every day for the past three years. I’ve gone months without looking at it or thinking about it. When I decide to read it through again, I come up with new plot twists and character development that I hadn’t thought of before, which results in a partial rewrite that then takes many weeks to complete. Then I put it down again. Lather, rinse, repeat. A professional writer can get it all down with only a few revisions over a few weeks or months. I desperately want to be done with it, but I keep finding ways to improve it. At some point, I have to say it’s good enough and send it off.

That’s pretty much what I do in the studio. Sis does the same thing whilst crafting.

I think Nelson has figured out that this is home. He had the zoomies this evening, then found the toy basket (he’s had Rocky all along, but I didn’t want to be picking up his toys among all of the other unpacking). We played several rounds of fetch and tug-o-war and now he’s snoozing in my arms.

Guess I should have mentioned - he’s looking at a great dane mix. We had a dane eons ago and he really wants a BIG dog. I reiterated that I do not want to be responsible. He says he’ll take care of it all. So, first, will he actually get the dog he’s looking at (it’s a rescue about 90 miles from here) or will he have to keep looking. I told him flat out we’re not spending $2K+ at a breeder. I don’t care how reputable - there are too many dogs needing rescue and adoption. I will not give in on that. And he knows it. So we’ll see how it all goes as the story continues. Dammit.

Tomorrow, I need to hang around the house till his phone is delivered. I’m thinking about futzing in the front garden, moving some lilies to new homes and thinning the liriope. And the azaleas have a few branches that have popped up in weird places - I will nip them back. I’ll get to try out my new elbow-length gardening gloves. I’m thinking I want a crape myrtle at the end of the azalea hedge. The garden center in Leonardtown is having a sale…

Nothing planned beyond that. Whatever happens will happen. For now, tho, I’m thinking tablet in bed till I fall asleep.

It’s just after ten, and 56F/13C out with a predicted high of 76F/24C tomorrow. The last few years I’ve been complaining about the feeble attempts at winter we’ve been experiencing. This year we’ve had a pretty feeble attempt at summer, too, but I’m definitely not complaining about that. It only went up over 90F/32C two or three times, if even that. Usually during the summer I sleep in my skivvy shorts, with no blankets – not even a top sheet – and waking up sweaty is commonplace. This year I wore what are apparently called “sleep pants” every night, usually with a light blanket over me, and I only woke up soaked with sweat once.

Lunch today was a big bowl of Strawberry Cinnamon Toast Crunch with a banana sliced into it; supper was a couple of grilled cheese sandwiches. Tomorrow I’ll take back the three library books I have out, and should be able to pick up at least a couple of the eight books I have on hold (the latest books from S M Stirling and Lindsey Davis, plus five books by Kate Atkinson and Sapiens: A Brief History of Humankind.

Need to call the barbers and get an appointment for a haircut and beard trim, too – I’five months or so overdue here

Late night final time here in N. Ali-bama. Did not go north to obtain lottery tickets, albeit if no one wins tonight and it’s bumped up even more, I suspect I will be giving into temptation (greed) and take a short road trip. Did get my gym stuff in before they closed at 4pm and have pretty much been house-bound except to treat myself to a Labor Day 5 Guys trip…those French Fries should be on a list of addictive substances, I do love them so much. Caught up with my e-mail (it finally started working again about 6pm) and did a couple of soccer report backlogs, so almost caught up. Temperature is down to 70F so the AC gets another night off…my electric bill will be pleased.

Well-played. Very well-played indeed.

Oopsie, must be a law or something here, can’t remember the last time I smelled smoke from someone burning anything but hamburgers. Hope you figured out a way to introduce Bailey to medicine.

Flipper, without wanting to seem mean, it is a pretty standard-sounding plot but I am sure you have it written and set well so it will stand out. Best wishes on finding a buyer.

FCM, now he wants to go from Basset to Great Dane? Hold the man’s feet to the fire on who takes care of the beast. Glad the boat work is nearing completion just in time for winter…

lily, happy writing day. And stick to your principals, write what you are comfortable with.

I endorse this sentiment.

Flyboy, glad the protest went well.

red, feel better soon.

I’ll be eating Cheerios with an apple on the side to break fast tomorrow. Probably mac-n-cheese instead of grilled cheese, but you never know…

And that’s all the energy I’ve got. Need to watch a little TV tonight and then off to Slumberland. Take care all.

Presumably these two statements are not directly connected…

Kraft.

Dammit. People younger than you aren’t supposed to die.

I couldn’t sleep last night. I keep thinking about my friend and his family. SenBoy and SenGirl could tell that I was down and I had to keep telling them it was ok and it’s about the friend and nothing about them.
