(Old) A Drinking Problem in the MMP

Morning all. Bladder got me up at 4:30am but I stayed in bed until 7:30. Mowage is the major activity today, will get the front yard done this morning (it’s already 78F) and maybe the back too, or I’ll get the back yard this evening (mowage in 90+F heat is not a great idea). May also get some swimmin’ and sauna in.

Wink, wink, nudge nudge…

Sari, that is not a good combination for your foot/ankle. Hope something useful can be done.

Boo fae, enjoy the weekend.

FCM, saw the kids pics in Facebook, wish I still had enough hair to justify my tripers to the barber.

rocky, I presume Kortisa is a cat, and not the Albanian folk dance troupe living with you… :astonished: :astonished:

OK, onward into the day. Take care all.

She hasn’t, but I’ve had clues.

Wednesday she came home jittery. She’d gotten a cold brew coffee from a coffee house in the historical district. Her tolerance for caffeine is… not as high as mine. Also, her back was killing her. I was looking at the can of Cabot-brand paint and said, that it reminds me of Super Chicken, because Super Chicken’s real name is Henry Cabot Henhouse III . She told me not to say anything dumb, so I stopped there. She had a glass of wine and some ibuprofen, and an hour later that calmed her down. She said ‘I think it’s working. Tell me something stupid.’ So I said, ‘A henhouse is a lodge for chickens. So Super Chicken is named after Henry Cabot Lodge [Jr.].’ She laughed and said that I said just the right ‘stupid’ thing. She asked me if she has anything to apologise for. She swore off cold brew, and said she’s just going to have regular coffee. We had a nice dinner, and the evening was as calm as usual. She said she was going to bed, and I put on Real Genius. Then she did what she did.

Yesterday she cancelled her patients because of her back pain. Later, after she had a nap, I told her I hoped her back felt better. She said, ‘I’ll bet you do.’ When she went to bed last night we kissed and said our I love yous. Then she said, ‘Now you can watch all the TV you want.’

Based on these clues, I think A) She was in pain; B) She was suffering after-effects of the caffeine; C) In her depleted state, she may have found the TV was too loud or something. It wasn’t, but she was probably hurting so much that she couldn’t get to sleep and blamed it on me.

doggio, does your union have supplemental unemployment available for use during a strike? When I was a kid, my dad’s union was on strike and our family survived for 23 weeks on sub pay, picket duty pay and a temp gig running a backhoe or driving dump truck for an excavator. The reason that Spot may lick the cheese before digging in is that he feels it is safe to do so in your home and not have to risk having it snatched away by another critter.

cat glove, CVS was the pharmacy. The staff at the one that I go to rock. Even though they’re located in a busy Target store, they know me by name and give me a hand with stuff like this.

Ouch sari! I hope that you get a treatment plan once they figure everything out. That should bring relief.

Up, caffeinating, breakfasted, a load of towels in the dryer and clothes in the wash. Fixing to do KP and Friday chores.

They have resumed doing the trim on my building. The neighbors that are moving are having to work around the painters and vice-versa. Nelson and the poodles next door are barking at them all. I feel so protected! :stuck_out_tongue:

Stay safe and healthy y’all!

I wouldn’t say ‘great’. I hate painting, and the wood was weathered and warped. But here are a couple of pictures. One shows the painted deck (with the 1.2 cord covered wood stack onit). The other one shows a stick of treated wood that is half painted. I wanted to paint the deck to match the wood, and the ‘standard colour’ at Blowe’s looked like it matched. Only it turned out to be more yellow.

It looks pretty good to me!

I believe much of my day will be spent moving stuff around. We shall see. The AQI is good but the pollen has been high for weeks, which saps my stamina. I do have a list of calls to make and a pile of papers to shred, so I’m not absolved from house-beautifying even if the tasks are lower key.

I LOL’d.

The Wife had a shower, and informed me that the toilet is leaking. I went to look, and the same thing happened to me the other day. The water on the floor was warm, so it obviously didn’t come from the toilet. I thought I’d been careless with the shower curtain, but now it’s happened to the Spousal Unit. I looked in the wall (which was never covered after having the faucets replaced), and the pipes aren’t leaking. I’ll run the tub (not the shower) later to see if the drain is leaking.

I heaved in Smalls. Then I went Harry potter, and went sorting in Secondary, followed by the 100 slide clean up. i did my Aldi run on the way home. Spot is sulking because he was too busy bird watching, and missed Banana Time.

That is a good question.

Or he’s just weird.

Well, you know those wacky Albanians!

I’m sure Joy likes to clutch those pearls. :stuck_out_tongue:

Hope SWMBO feels better, and you find the leaker.

She just said her back keeps wanting to seize up.

I ran water in the tub. It’s definitely the drain. I’ve called the plumber, and they’ll get back to me around noon to tell me his availability. Just finished the deck. We still have a mole in the yard. It’s just one God damned thing after another.

koritsa the klimber is the very cute marmalade in my picture. she is a very good girl. koritsa is russian for cinnamon, she is bilingual.

i’m picturing the albanians living in my walls like that commercial. every now and again popping out to dance.

Hi, everyone! I’d hoped to post on Monday or Tuesday, but c’est la vie. I’ve skimmed the entire thread, and am caught up in a very-high-level way.

On Wednesday morning I dropped Bailey off at the kennel, got the car washed, and finished packing. I hit the road at around 10:45am, and got to my favorite travel plaza at 12:30. It was busy, but the wait at the Wendy’s wasn’t nearly as bad as I’ve encountered during lunchtimes past. Thankfully, the NJ Turnpike was clear and easy; I did hit some congestion on the Garden State Parkway, but all in all I made pretty good time and pulled into the B&B’s parking lot at around 4:15pm. I went to my cousin’s for dinner (beer can chicken! yum!), and my aunt and another cousin (plus his wife) were there. A few of us wound up sitting outside around a fire until after midnight.

Yesterday was my uncle’s visitation and service, and the repast. Everything went as well as can be expected, and my cousins were surprised by how many people showed up so that was really nice. My 82-year-old aunt is…well, it might be too soon to say. Her health was pretty bad even before her husband’s hospitalization/death, and now she is living with my cousin and her husband at least for the time being. She also has some dementia (not Alzheimer’s; they tested her), so with all of that plus her broken heart she is going through a LOT right now. I spent most of yesterday at her side, to help give my cousins a break, and every now and then she would forget who I was, ask if she had any children, ask where she was, forget where she was living now, etc. I don’t know how dementia works, but I feel that her grief likely exacerbated it. She was eating and drinking, she did a great job of engaging with all of the people who talked to her, and she expressed looking forward to her granddaughter’s wedding in September — all very good things. But, time will tell how well she adjusts to the new living situation and widowhood. The dementia is such a cruel twist. Part of me won’t be surprised if she doesn’t see New Year’s Eve, but I really hope she does. After the repast I went back with her to my cousin’s for a late dinner. It was long, exhausting day for everyone.

This morning has been quite lazy: I woke up around 8am, but texted the innkeeper that I’d be skipping breakfast and I’ve been sitting on the couch in my room and catching up with emails, Facebook, the MMP, etc., all morning. At some point I’ll think about taking a shower and getting some lunch, and will head back to my cousin’s sometime this afternoon. One of her brothers and his family will be bringing dinner over, so it’ll be good to see everyone again.

I’ve been talking with my cousin about when it would be the most helpful for me to be there with my aunt: seems like tomorrow will be another “whenever/whatever” day, but her daughter has an event on Sunday afternoon — while her husband will be sleeping (he works a night shift) — and her 19-year-old son would appreciate having some assistance then. I’ll be all over it. I might try to see other family in the area tomorrow, but will likely wind up at my cousin’s place at some point. Since my aunt is living there now, it’s kind of “home base” for everyone.

I’m in town until Tuesday; I’ll drive back home on the holiday. I’m kind of ready to go home already (I miss Bailey, my kitchen, etc.), but mostly I want to spend some quality time up here and help out when/if I can.

I’m hoping to be more engaged/interactive here over the next few days!

Good morning everyone.

It’s been a busy week, and although I tried to keep up via my cell phone, I was largely unsuccessful.

I do hope SWMBO is feeling better, flyboy.

Look into the union supplemental, doggio! Although I hope management and the Union can come to an agreement and a strike is avoided.

Tuesday, I was on the road at 4:30 am and arrived in Wenatchee around 7:00ish. Maybe a little before. Yes, my foot was in for part of the trip. I worked for a bit from an empty office and, with the help of a staff member there, loaded up three Varidesks and three monitor arm setups into the back of my Jeep. I continued working out of the empty office, where I had a beautiful view of the distant hills and the river. Around oneish, we took off for lunch, and I treated the staff member as a thank you for all the support he’s given me in the last year.

On the way back, we noticed a big plume of smoke rolling in the sky, and as we got better glimpses of the hillside, I saw that the fire had raced up the hillside, and it was black with smoke and flames at the top. On the other side of the hillside were hundreds of homes, and helicopters and a plane circled the fire. When we returned to the office, I could see the fire out the window. It was not there when we left for lunch.

A couple of hours later, I headed to my hotel along the river and watched as tanker planes flew overhead, loaded water from the river, and flew back to the fire. The fire was out by 8:00; at least air support was over by then, and thunder rolled in briefly.

The next morning, I was on the road by 6:00 am and headed back down 97 and over to 82 to head to the Yakima office. I arrived there around 8:00 am, and the drive was very nice. The view from both the Manastash and the Umtanum Ridges are both pretty cool. Anyway, I arrived at the office there, dashed out for some coffee, settled in to work from an empty cube, participated in meetings, took the staff member there to lunch, and made sure she and other members of the staff didn’t need anything and took care of the wants they had. Around 2:30, I headed over to my hotel, and as I approached my hotel, there was another fire…right near the hotel.

A park near the hotel had a several-acre brush fire on the river. They had it under control, and all was fine. I worked for a bit more from the hotel and then grabbed some dinner.

I woke early again yesterday, showered, and worked until 8:30 or so from the hotel. I hit the road and drover over Chinook Pass, where I had the road mostly to myself. I couldn’t believe my luck. I also saw a couple of does and a BEAR!!! I was surprised to see the bear, but it was cool all the same.

I arrived home around 10:40 am, gave some love to Polar, watered my posies, and worked until 3:30 from my upstairs office.

I am off today and plan to enjoy it. It’s currently somewhere in the 60s and cloudy, but the sun will be out later today, and temps will climb to about 80 degrees.

And…a few of you posted while I was typing up my novel.

I hope things go as well as can be expected with your aunt, misnomer. I am sorry about your uncle.

I hope you hear from the plumber very soon, flyboy.

Crappy night, feel like hell today. Blurf.

Glad you & she got to the bottom of it. Pain is a bitch & doubly so on uppers.

Had me worried for a while there.

Afternoon all. Lawn is mowed (did both front and back) and now need to stop sweating so I can go swimming and then to the sauna to sweat… 94F right now and a 1-in-3 chance of tunder-boomers later.

Taters, sounds like a long but good week; hope the fires get tamped down.

Oopsie, getting old is not easy; good on ya for doing you bit for aunt.

Flyboy, I may use that picture on my Facebook page when I’m in that mood…right now things are going too well. Hope the leak is a minor problem, I’ve spent the last 12 months learning how expensive plumbing issues can be. Deck looks good to me. And sounds like things between you and Wife are good.

OK, need to clean up a bit (getting grass clippings in the pool is frowned upon by the management) and head over to the gym. Have a good Firday all.

My sister was just visiting and I mentioned we needed to start planning for a trip we will be taking next April, to see the total eclipse. It was a surprise because that’s one of the things she wanted to talk about. Turns out that just two days ago she was checking on accomodations along the way, and found a place at a chain motel in the town of Bedford Ohio. Bigger towns were already booked up! So now we have the basics of a plan. After the eclipse we plan on going further, to Cincinatti, to visit Jungle Jims International Market. And come home after that.

If anyone else will be viewing the eclipse it will be interesting to compare experiences. Last time, in 2017, we got a view of two and a half minutes, this next time around it will be up to four minutes.

Try this sometime: Get into an elevator that has a few/several people in it. Give an exasperated sigh and say, ‘Did you ever have one of those days where everything seems to go right?

Mrs. L.A. now reports there is water on the floor after flushing the toilet; so now the toilet is off-limits. I called the plumbing dispatcher and gave her an update. It’s sounding like the tub drain isn’t leaking, but that there might be a clog farther down. But I’m not a plumber, so I’m just guessing.

As for expensive repairs, I said we had the tub/shower faucet replaced a couple of years ago. (Hence, the hole in the wall I haven’t gotten round to making a hatch for.) My (new) fixture. The plumbers just installed it, albeit with new piping. That was 900 simoleons – about three times what I was expecting. I hope this time it’s cheaper.

Just tried to wash up at the utility sink. Even though I turned the water off between washings up, there was an inch of water in it when I finished. It’s empty now. Sounds like a clog somewhere. We’re running out of towels, and it’s an hour 'til noon. (And even then, that’s just the callback to LMK when the plumber can get out here.)

Wifey, RN went to see patients, and thought about where she might use a bathroom. When it comes to it for me, there’s a rest area six miles away.

FCD wanted to lunch at Cracker Barrel. I was dismayed to see that they have a Halloween display. It’s still June, dammit!!!

FCD just went to crash for a bit. When he gets up, I’m going to help him clean up his shop. Till then, it’s tablet time!

Have you thought about camp toilets? You can get them for not a lot of money and they are not horrible to clean out. They aren’t great, but better than leaving your home in the middle of the night to pee.
