Long day got longer when I went to the pharmacy to try to get the blood thinner subsidy ironed out. They were able to do what my PCP office wasn’t interested in doing, so I have another year of $10 a month instead of $500+.
On the way home, Sis in Houston called. She was just diagnosed with a DVT. Welcome to the club. My mom’s sister married my dad’s brother. All four of them had blood clotting issues. Of the 7 bio kids that were born to the two couples, Sis is #7 to have a DVT and/or a PE. Those of us tested have been found to have a grand total of 4 different factors that influence our veins of jello (I have two of them, as do a couple of others). We hit the jackpot in the genetic lottery, I suppose. I’m kind of walking Sis through some of the hassles of getting her meds without having a winning lottery ticket. Oy!
My building is now teal. Afternoon T-boomers meant that they didn’t get the trim done, but the big part is over. My patio will remain in disorder until they’re done.
The neighbors two doors down are moving. This would be Molly’s family. While they aren’t terrible people, they weren’t very good neighbors, so I’m hoping for someone better.
OK, now I am going to confess to being pretty clueless. I only now realized that missred was a clever way to mention your hair color. I thought it was because your RL name was Scarlet or something like that.
One of my sisters was a bottle brunette when she was giving birth and I understand the doctor’s reaction when he looked between her legs and saw that she was a redhead was pretty funny. In retrospect.
The MRI is over and was a piece of cake. It took under 15 minutes, and my head was outside the machine. I tried to nudge the tech into rushing my results, but he was way too serene, as in Vape-Nuts-for-breakfast serene. Doc will get results Monday-ish. Sigh.
I’m so sorry. That’s the pits. When I had an MRI before cancer surgery, I panicked, and it took all I had not to scream. I was shaking when they pulled me out. A couple of years later, I had to have another MRI, this one of my head (Dad joke: They didn’t find anything.) and was so nervous because of the last one that I posted about it here on The Dope. Some people suggested my anxiety over the cancer was what had caused my panic, and it turned out they were right, as I sailed right through. Valium also helped, so if you ever have to get an MRI again, ask your doc to Rx something.
JtC, glad you averted danger to the danger noodle. I love that hubs played along on yout secret hiding place.
flyboy, I don’t want to tread on the sore subject of what happened in this morning. I just want you to know I hope your day got better and that you’re not too upset.
I was a redhead for most of my life (currently bottle blonde to cover the white). I got the missred handle from one of the guys with whom I used to work.
My car wouldn’t start that morning, so I called my (late) friend Ozark. Now, Ozark was about 6’5" of solid muscle, with a beard that could have qualified him for membership in ZZTop and a voice as gravelly as Bob Seger’s, who rode an old Harley named Mabel, after his mama. He picked me up and dropped me off at work that morning. Most of the folks at irk thought of me as having the manners of a schoolmarm, so they were obviously a bit surprised. Clay, one of the wastewater treatment guys made the comment Boy, have I mis-read you!. I kind of liked it, so I used it as my handle in the old chatroom days of AOL.
Up from naptime. I retrieved my computer mouse from Spot. I’m having a Paloma for cocktails.
Nope
"You are disqualified from receiving unemployment benefits during an active labor dispute. You are not qualified for unemployment benefits when your partial or total unemployment is due to:

So Spot might be joining me on the picket line with a NO CHEESE NO PEACE sign.
Well, Corporate kinda treats us that way. At least no one has been dissolved by a Horta. Yet.
A lot of it is a crapshoot(especially with 5 Russians), but with 10 picks, it improves the odds. Also, the Canes drafted a kid named Felix Unger Sorum
Evening all. Calories pedaled off and clothes sweated on in the sauna, so have done my healthy stuff for the day. Did manage to get the last two items on my shopping list, so that can be marked complete, we had some loud thunder rolling around but very little rain, so will probably do mowage tomorrow. Will also weigh myself at the gym, from June-Dec 2022 I lost 14lbs and we’ll see what tomorrow will show for Jan-Jun 2023. Hopefully about the same amount, that will leave me with a goal of getting to 240lbs by the end of the year (which while still more weight than recommended is a good target for me).
Cat Glove, another thank you for the description of golf course measuring. Interesting side job, wonder what type of equipment they use to insure exact measurements. And good on daughter in getting Mom (you) to take action. Hope the refund works out.
Hippie, interesting pattern this time around.
Swampy, sounds like a nice party. Enjoy.
Funny thing is, I’m typing this while wearing a red shirt…
Oh, and nice story, I get along fine with snakes, but glad GG and VBC have the catio back to themselves.
red, sorry the gene pool got screwed up for you and your siblings, at least there are treatments out there for you.
OK, dinner has been consumed and the evening’s sloth has commenced. All y’all take care.
I kept reading it misread because my I’m lazy and that’s just what I do. If I stopped and looked, I knew it was Miss Red which I assumed was a play on your little red dog and your red hair.
OK, so while I am not very good at sneaking around hubs in the same home, I am good at sneaking around government folderol. You will be considered to have quit working without cause. You will not be eligible for food stamps until you go through their work program. Federal rules say you won’t be eligible for UI unless you are laid off from a different temp job that allowed you to work a certain number of hours in a certain time period. Check with your state regulations, that is usually 6 weeks and 120 hours.
After you have been let go from your temporary job due to lack of work, you will be eligible for food stamps and for UI. The temp job will probably not want to pay, so you will need to appeal, but you are a smart guy who will have documented the part about it being temporary and no work, so you will end up getting your UI paid by UPS.
I sure do hope this settles in you guyes favor fastest. If necessary, I will learn how to ship cheese…if you think Spot will settle for the soft stuff.
I get along with sniks quite well, I just not a fan of dead sniks which is what happens if they go into the Cage of Death, red shirt or not.
Good evening, all! Last night did end up being date night and I’m still blushing from it all.
I spent much of today doing online things, including a cull of my FB friends. I went from over 700 down to 450. I’m actually noticing a slight better ability to see things from those I want to read. I also got a huge ego-boo from all the people that were hoping to make the cut/glad they made the cut. They like me! They really, really like me!
I spent a good part of today chatting with my partner while doing some browsing and some writing. I’m still trying to figure out who I need to contact about the missing check. I thought I’d found an email address for them, but it came back undeliverable. Tomorrow, if I have time after my doctor’s appointment in the morning, I’m going to see if I can find a number for someone that might be able to help me but, if they can’t can send me in the right direction. I’m also thinking about stopping by the post office and see if they can help at all (I doubt it, but surprises do happen.)
We had a hell of a thunderstorm tonight. I didn’t go out on the porch to watch it this time. But I did listen to the thunder crashing outside. It’s such a soothing sound for me, puts me in a good mood. It’s just a powerful sound.
Mentally, I’m kind of all over the place today. I keep bouncing back and forth between flirty and happy and depressed. Can I blame it on menopause and be done with it?
Not a lot else is going on in the pond. I’m feeling kind of… out of it tonight? I was going to make replies to others but I don’t think tonight’s the night for that. Instead I’ll just say have a good rest of the night.
My lovely wife and I ran some errands, worked in the yard, and made our own dinners (I highly recommend the TJ’s ricotta and lemon zest ravioli if you swing that way). She’s got a medical consult in the morning; I’m unscheduled, huzzah. Might finish reading Molly Malloy and the Angel of Death, or dip more into Around the World in 50 Years, or read a friend’s manuscript. And, of course, continue picking and choosing from the massive task list. Right now, though, I’ll see if I can set up a twin bedframe, to which I’ll add an inflatable mattress. I will sleep on this tonight to see if it works, and to be sure the mattress doesn’t have a slow leak, before we have overnight visitors.
Watched Strange New Worlds tonight. Spoilers for Tomorrow and Tomorrow and Tomorrow:
“Just because I’m stuck in the past with a junior officer from my alternate timeline ship doesn’t mean I can’t get some” - James T. Kirk
: clutches pearls in joy :
Spot’s favorites: Gouda, Smoked cheddar, Pepper Jack
Meh: Havarti, Muenster
Well the strike in '95 lasted 2 weeks. but that was before all the fresh food shippers popped up. So it depends on how well management and scabs can keep all those wheels turning.(As talented as I am, I am replaceable. 100+ drivers per building…not so much.)
Still alive a kicking around here.
I’ve been reading and catching up, but not much time to post.
The crazy never ends.
I am looking forward to tomorrow. My son will have a week off irk, as Toosday is a holiday and he is taking Hump Day off as I have an MRI that day. We would get home in time for him to go to irk, but it would be rushing, and I am horrible at that.
The first time I had an MRI, I fell asleep.
The last time I flipped out. I’m hoping they can put me in feet first.
The GR (Golden Raisins) are doing well.
They really aren’t bad puppies, except for Rayleigh and housebreaking.
I talked to the vet about it and he said to give him some more time and if we are still having issues, he will check to see if Rayleigh has an UTI.
They keep me busy, and I try to sit outside with them a lot.
One, because of Rayleigh’s bladder issues. Two, because it’s a lot better for them to run outside where there is more room and they aren’t running into furniture.
The weather has been pretty nice for sitting outside and the asshole two doors down has taken a break from burning everything.
I got my foot/ankle X-ray. I have arthritis in my ankle, there is soft tissue swelling, and I have a Plantar Spur and a Dorsal Spur. I see the podiatrist Moonday.
From what I have read, I need to stay off my foot for a while.
I got a bit bitchy when menopause started.
At first, I felt guilty for being mean. Then I figured anybody stupid enough to mess with a woman going through menopause deserves what they get.
It’s after 11, way past my bed time, but I try to stay up late so I can let the GR out one last time so they will sleep through the night.
Dang, I can’t manage a good cheddar yet, but I make a nice Gouda. Havarti, Muenster and real American cheese* come out well every time. Pick one and I’ll get it started tomorrow. Of course, then we will have to figure out shipping because I wouldn’t trust USPS with it and FedEx is so expensive.
Don’t you have a cat for that?
I so hated that time of my life. I cried over lost pet ads in the newspaper. I asked my doctor for something to help and she said that if I kept taking hormones, I would just delay it, not stop it. So I took the hormones for a while because I was tired of crying over stupid shit. Then one day I tried to refill my script just to learn that something had happened and they couldn’t get more ( Estratest for those who care) due to shortages.
As the poor pharmacy clerk was telling me this, he kept stepping back from the counter until he was flattened against the back shelves and the fear and panic was writ large on his face. When I asked if he had been yelled at over the lack of menopause hormones, the look on his face said everything.
I quit taking the pills and started smoking more weed, which helped a bunch.
*yes, it is a “processed” cheese but all cheese is processed milk and yes I do use such shameful things as dried whole milk to get the texture right, but it is the real stuff that people used to eat before Velveeta happened.
Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off to heave. Or since I’m in a Red Shirt, go full Scotty, and work miracles, drink Scotch, and punch tentacled aliens and Klingons.
And certain other parties might be unavailable.
Spot and I did Cheese Time. I’m not sure why he feels to need to lick the cheese Tootsie Pop style, before eating it. I mean, when he was a feral, did he spend 2 plus minutes licking the squirrel corpse before chowing down?
Morning, mumpers! It’s a cool 14c/56f with a predicted high of 17c/62f, and cloudy. That fits with what’s going on outside, I went out earlier to put a bag of rubbish in the bin and it was raining. Weather app says “It is overcast and fucking shitty outside”. I don’t think it’s quite that bad, perfect day for driving as far as I’m concerned.
Busy day for me, I’m off irk until next Tuesday and we are off to a music festival for the weekend. I was up reasonably early for a non-irk day, cats have been fed and watered, litter trays are done, I’ve had a bath and successfully made two cups of tea. I’ve got ironing to do, packing, I need to run to the pet shop for extra litter, and fill Keith’s petrol tank for the journey. We’re planning to leave after lunch and be at our airbnb house by 3pm. There are six of us sharing, all intending to arrive at roughly the same time. Then we have a bit of time before we need to be at the festival venue, first band I plan to see is at 7pm. Looking forward to a weekend of great bands, great company, and catching up with other friends who I know will be there.
The cats will be at home with the catsitter coming to visit twice a day. I’ve sent her all the details on the girlies so she knows she needs to look out for three cats instead of one. Happy days! She’s excited about meeting the newbies too
Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 72 Amurrkin out and hazy with a predicted high of 96 and N.O.S. Looks like tomorrow will be a good day to be festive. TWPTB claim Moanday and Tuesday will be rainy. We shall see. We shall head over to the church house this mornin’ so as I can deal with candle duty and other stuff. Then we shall be bears who brunch at Eggs Up. Then 'tis back to da cave to get the ribs on the smoker. I shall also make pimento cheese for Sunday. It will be tough, but I think I can squeeze in sloth and nappage as well. It’s all about balance people.
Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, alas and bother, I suppose I must purtify and don attire acceptable for bein’ amongst the great unwashed. The things I go through for my public!
Pretty good sleep and no bizarro dreams that I recall, so yay! FCD is still abed - whether we go out for breakfast is still TBD. If he doesn’t feel well enough, we’ll try again Moanday. And, surprise, surprise - no trials scheduled today, so no jury duty. Wanna bet they don’t schedule any for Moanday either?
Daughter took the kids for haircuts yesterday - OMG, does Roxanna have a lot of hair!! It’s mostly kept braided because it’s such a chore to deal with on a regular basis. I knew it was long, since the braids were long, but DANG! That kid could rock a 'fro that would be the envy of the 70s! Needless to say, Daughter awaits the day that Roxy can tend to her own coiffure. I posted a pic on FB if anyone is interested.
Not sure what today’s agenda is - it largely depends on how my poor sweetie feels. At a minimum, I’ll take the sack o’soup to MIL. But if he’s up to it, we’ll go to the boat to start installing all the name boards. Otherwise, dunno.
I noticed I have a 'mater that’s turning red - WOOHOO!! Not much else going on.
I know you’re a guy, but some women have a set of oversized “pearls” on a string they do clutch for joy. Or so I’m told.
Hooray truefish.
Mornin all. It’s about 8am on a sunny and warm-soon-to-be-hot day and I’ve been balconating since 6am shortly pre-dawn. Except for traffic noise this is excellent.
Today we shall get sheveled then visit her Ladyship’s daughter to deliver some paraphernalia needed for her adopted daughter’s 3yo birthday and party which is this weekend.
One of my pals just bought a spiffy new fancy-pants car so my later afternoon activity will be going over to his place commune and drool in a very manly fashion. Perhaps scotch will be involved. Perhaps.
Otherwise I’m on days off Thu-Sat hoping for overtime that will probably not materialize. then on-call Sun-Fri and will almost certainly work somewhere in there. My retirement countdown timer says 74 days, so I really need to get serious about the paperwork exercise for SS, Medicare, and my trivial pension.
No breakfast out today, tho FCD is feeling better. Just not better enough to drive half an hour to get breakfast. He plans to futz in his shop today and I think I’ll attack some weeding. We’ll figure out the rest as we go along.
interesting, my koritsa, who i found on the street does this as well. she will lick for a bit before she eats. perhaps it is an anti-poisoning thing. i give this a lick, if it doesn’t kill me i’ll try another…hm, still alive, eat it.
Very glad that your pharmacy was able to get this done for you! Is it a local pharmacy or a chain?
JtC thanks for the trigger warning and hiding the story.
my recollection is that it’s from Vanderbilt. Then who you need to contact is their Accounting Dept, in particular Accounts Payable. They will tell you the check number and date issued. In order to issue another check, they will have to check with the bank to determine it hasn’t been cashed, then put a STOP PAYMENT on it. Normally most organizations won’t do that until about a month has passed from the date the check was cut and mailed. I hope it just was either misdelivered and that the person who received it brings it over or that somehow it is still within the postal service and is found swiftly and delivered to you.
sounds like something we would enjoy; next time I’m out that way (TJ’s is about 20 miles from us), I’ll pick some up. Thanks.
It’s fiscal yearend today so I’ll be doing my normal work this morning and conducting/overseeing physical inventory this afternoon. Have a good day all!
