(Old) A Drinking Problem in the MMP

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 70 Amurrkin out and N.O.S. with a predicted high of 93 and N.O.S. I need to take care of a few errands this mornin’. Then the usual sloth and general overall uselessness shall prevail. There shall be quality cee-mint pond time, nappage, day drinkin’ as is our wont. Sup shall be grilled chikin strips, sallit, and cheesey garlic bread. I could and probably should mow, but don’t hold your collective breaths waitin’ on that to happen.

Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy, Then, onward into the day! Rah.

Happy Thursday Y’all!

Had an MRI today for a checkup on the Big C and got into distress.

They have a mask policy which wasn’t waived for putting people into tight tube. I was doing OK for a while, despite the clanking and banging. I often refight WWII naval battles to combat boredom or stress and was cleaning up against the Imperial Japanese Navy off the Eastern Solomons when things got too much.

Hokkaido is just getting warm but no AC yet and with a mask in the confined space I started to panic. Controlled breathing was helping but I started feeling nauseated and finally signaled that I needed help.

After being popped out for a bit, I was able to get relax enough to let the procedure get finished, sans mask, which let me breath better.

They should let me know next week if there is any change in the statues, but I don’t think there should be any problems.

I’m beat. Off to bed.

Morning all. Today must have been sleep-in day, was abed until nearly 8am so should be good to go. Weather is already 81F and heading to 94F, with afternoon tunder-boomers almost guaranteed, so need to get dressed and do the Great July Shopping trip this morning. Then hope the rain abates enough to get to the gym later today. Outside of that nothing much on the agenda.

Sensei, sounds like you had a tough time, glad you were able to make it through and I’m sure you didn’t share your dreams with the (presumably Japanese) staff, Hope the MRI report is clean.

FCM, sometimes I wish I could remember my dreams, then I read yours and am glad I usually don’t. And great picture. Thanks for the suggestion, I’ll see the ships (thanks doggio, they are in the same area as Lexington) and Fort Sumter and after that we’ll see.

Flyboy, she’ll tell you why she’s mad at you when she’s good and ready…hang in there.

OK, onward into the day. Take care all.

Afternoon, mumpers! It’s quite cool here today, 19c/65f with no predicted change, and partly cloudy. Weather app says “An optimist would say it’s partly sunny outside. I’d say that optimist is a fucking idiot.” Well, it’s definitely been very cloudy but it’s sunny now, and we haven’t had any rain so perhaps that optimist isn’t so bad after all.

Sensei sorry to hear you had such a rough time with the scan, I’m glad you survived the experience and will keep appendages crossed for a clean bill of health.

Mooom you have some very bizarre dreams. Are you sure you’re not eating cheese before bed? I do remember some of mine, they are usually a mix of bizarre and just plain unusual, never anything particularly disturbing though.

flyboy the dream version of you must have done something really bad. Have you worked out how non-dream you is going to make up for it?

I’m having a bit of a non-event day today. I had a meeting with one of my minions this morning which went fine, no surprises there. Then a lunchtime session about managing through menopause (from the perspective of both team and manager), and I’ve spent some time adding marks to reports for scrutiny so we can hopefully get our continuing students sorted out by the end of next week.

We have a new person starting in our team today, he comes from another uni so he’s kind of familiar with what’s going on but not necessarily in the way we do things here. I won’t meet him until next week as I’m working from home today (swapped a day as I was on campus on Tuesday instead), I’m on leave Friday and Monday, and at home on Tuesday. The boss said we might have a Teams meeting to say hello but she’s not sure she has time to squeeze that in herself. Who knows?

Anyway, it’s nearly time for me to finish for the day, then I have some stuff to do around the house, it’s my turn to cook dinner, and I need to work out what I need to pack for our weekend away. So much to do, so little time!

So, so far a bummer hummer summer?

@fairychatmom~definitely the most adorable ever!

So one of the guys in Smalls is retiring after 43 years. So we had a quick party. Which lasted a few extra minutes, since Yellow Belt also retired after 43 years. But everything worked in the end. I went to Teeter for beer and bananas, then to Target for a red shirt. Union is wearing red on Fridays, till Corporate comes to its senses. Or the clock strikes midnight.

Edgar. He was adopted by the lesbian witch commandos back in Dream #1254.

Sorry the scan gve you a bad time, Sensei

That was a scary summer. We lived in the far corner of inner SE Portland, near the Clackamas County border. The fires were just the other side of Lake Oswego at one point, which isn’t that far upriver from there. We actually packed a bugout bag, just in case. I was really glad that we had AC put in when we bought the place.

Yup, we had fire moving toward us–about 10-15 miles away, but in the greenway that leads to our wooded residential area. Bugout bags and cat-out bag. Having AC made a huge difference in our quality of life. Whole-house AC with electrostatic air filter, filter in the intake with a pile of them to swap in, HEPA filters running, doors taped. With COVID untreatable and the death rate high, this meant staying in the house and eating emergency supplies, with the occasional masked pickup run during lower (more like 400 than 600) smoke. We didn’t want to have some poor schlub out making grocery deliveries!

But that’s what poor schlubs are for! I kid!

They all looked so miserable in their inadequate cloth masks that it awakened my inner Marxist.

Afternoon all. Got 97% of the shopping done (a couple of items still remain to be procured). The 99% chance of rain has now decreased to 24%, showing Weather Wizards are not always the most reliable folks. Will head to the gym in an hour or so once lunch digests and then maybe pickup the remaining supplies. It’s 90F now about noontime so indoor activity is what is on the agenda.

doggio, hope the red shirt helps, but I’m an old Star Trek fan and I remember what Red Shirts meant… :astonished: :astonished:

OK, need to do a little more internetting then need to go sweat off the big lunch I just finished. Take care all.

That’s “walk out of the marriage and never look back” material for me. Control your irrationality like an adult if you expect me to be part of your life.

The fact SWMBO chose to throw away booze suggests there’s a disagreement between them about how much drinking is appropriate. Which is certainly a legitimate area for honest contention within couples in general. How much it’s honest contention in the flyboy household is for them, not me, to judge.

But blaming me for whatever you dreamed up inside your head? Sayonara, wacko!

Had a nice but short visit with my Sis. I updated her on Hubs, gave her the pierogies and she explained about measuring golf courses. First, this is done by a team of members of the Golf Association of Michigan. I know they only rate courses every 10 years. Perhaps it is the same with measuring because things can change over time, like new tee box placement, new sand traps, size of water hazards. They measure:
Distance from each of the different tee boxes (Pros, Mens, Womens, Juniors) to the greens.
Distance to get safely from each of the tee boxes to the other side of any water that has to be crossed
Depth of bottom of sand traps to the greens
% of each green surrounded by sand traps
How big is each green in diameter
Distance from greens to hazards
Etc
They were unable to complete measuring the course because the heavens opened up about 10:30ish but hopefully that will help with clearing the air quality at least temporarily.

My earache went away and throat was fine this morning. I didn’t take any medication so that tells me it was the smoke and particulate matter in the air from the smoke and not allergies.

So a heavier rain than “Raining cats & dogs”?

What did you think of your team’s picks? Hubs was watching. I went to bed very early, I think they were announcing pick 5, I heard a lot of non-English, probably French, as I was going up the stairs. Hubs texted me that the Red Wings had picks 9 and 17. I see in the paper that they took Nate Danielson, C, with the 9th pick and Axel Sandin Pellikka, D, with the 17th pick. Swedes have been good for us in the past, Nick Lidstrom, Tomas Holmstrom.

Month five blocks are done:

Howdy Y’all! Been a very lazy, slothful day here at da cave outside of doin’ some errands this mornin’. We decided to forego quality cee-mint pond time today. I’m a little pinkish as is OYKW so best to stay inside in the a/c today. One of my errands was to pick up four slabs of ribs from the burly butcher sto’. I’ll get ‘em in the smoker tomorrow afternoon and finish cookin’ ‘em in the oven, which is my preferred way. We’re havin’ a little pre-Fourth soiree Sattidy. Ribs, N.O.T. sallit, baked beans, corn on the cob, garlic bread and watermelon shall be the bill of fare. JDD and Partner are bringin’ the baked beans, and the wives are bringin’ N.O.T. sallit. Four other invitees are bringin’ snackie stuff to be consumed out by the cee-mint pond. It will be BYO for anyone wishin’ to imbibe adult beverages or beerverages. Oh, and gotta make some pimento cheese sammiches for first Sunday brunch. We’re doin’ an indoor picnic thing for that, so pimento cheese sammiches seem like a good thing to bring. Dang, I shall have to be unslothful and get stuff done over the next couple of days. How very unlike me!

sensei glad you survived the MRI trauma. Appropriate/inappropariate appendages are crossed for good results.

BooFae have you had to employ the PSWSLNS? Also, how nice of you to celebrate Ungrateful Colonials Day with a trip!

Are you going to be able to collect unemployment? /Starts worrying about Spot not getting his daily cheese./

Stress always wears me out. I hope your results are good.

Everyone at class cheerfully groaned at that one, well done!

Do remember that I refused to wear a red shirt to help clean out the storage shed of doom…

I’m actually wondering how old SWMBO is, because women experience a few years of extreme hormone shifts at around the age I imagine her to be. I spent a couple of years crying over anything and everything, but I know one woman who was always mad until her hormones settled down and then she was back to her usual sweet and kind self again.

That is super interesting, thanks for reporting back.

Oh, very nice. The colors go together so well. Are the blocks getting progressively more difficult to help teach you different technical skills?

I couldn’t let myself stitch yesterday, I’m mostly working cottons and silks and they have dried my skin out so much that I’ve got little tears on the palms of both hands.

I really wish the monsoons would start, but it doesn’t look like that’s going to happen anytime soon.

Class was fun and we all agreed that we are feeling better now that we are getting a little exercise.

I try to avoid single use bags and have a nice big stash of fabric tote bags that I’ve collected over the years, so my friends have all learned to return my tote bags for refilling. When NF and I were trading bags after class, I noticed that mine had something in it so looked and found a package of lovely chocolate brownie thins. YUM!

Hubs and I have very little self control over snacks, so when we get some I will put a small amount in a covered glass bowl and hide the rest of them. Hubs was in the kitchen when I put the cookies in the bowl and while I was looking for the lid, he sealed the bag and put them in my hiding place for me.

I’m just not that good at being sneaky.

hippie those blocks are gorgeous; I love the colors; aqua, turquoise, teal are my favs.

You may recall that I had booked a cottage on Green Bay. Well, I had been thinking that may not be do-able but didn’t do anything about it. Daughter brought it up while she was here and proposed that another place be rented a whole heck of a lot closer to home. So, I gave her the assignment to find something suitable. She came up with 3 choices. I finally got it together this morning since I woke up at 3:10am and what else is there to do at that time? So, I analyzed the 3 and chose the one that is just under an hour away. That way if anything happens where we need to get home or to a hospital where our insurance would be good in a hurry, we won’t have far to go. Dealing with vrbo was kind of stressful but I think it all worked out in the end. Well I’ll know in a few days how much of a refund I will receive on the Wisconsin cottage; I’m hoping for full, the host agreed to that but the vrbo guy was giving me a hard time.

Off to pick up Pad Pak w/ beef (Hubs choice) from Bangkok 96 for dindin.

@JaneDoe42

They are. This is one reason I chose this project. It is definitely a challenge to learn the techniques, and that is quite enjoyable. On this block, the quarter square triangles were not new to me but the corner beam blocks took me quite a while to figure out how to cut them correctly and then sew.

I am really having a great time with this project

The deck is painted.

Challenging projects always make my brain happy. I’m so glad you are enjoying yourself.

I’ll bet it looks great.

TRIGGER WARNING - SNIK STORY

I heard a lot of commotion in the catio and went out to investigate. There was a 3 ft long kingsnik huddled up in the two inch gap between the rafter and roof and of course GG was going absolutely nutz cause he wanted to play. We had to lock GG and VBC up so we could convince poor snik to leave, but despite being stoopid to break into a cage full of excitable carnivores, it was smart enough to vacate voluntarily as soon as the cats were gone. I really hope it learned its lesson and won’t be back again.

This is really upsetting, we cage our cats to protect the wildlife, I want the foolish beasts to stay out of the cage o’ cats for their own safety. There is no food out there, but they might be coming for the water fountain, so I put a pie plate of water by the stairs for them. Of course, the raccoon is going to just love having a water bowl to wash grasshoppers in and sniks probably don’t like bowls of mud. FML.
