The boomers are going off this evening, and the dog doesn’t seem much affected by them, but the cat is rather freaked out.
Haven’t heard any explosions, but it’s Canada Day so we expect them starting around sunset. Fourth of July is on Tuesday. I suspect it’s going to be a very noisy next four days.
I suspect its mostly weather related. We are changing the seasons and the wildlife are having problems adjusting.
My BFF takes her grands to places like that and I always shudder when she’s sharing stories and pics.
We had starlings here this year for the first time ever. I will confess to enjoying watching them strut and pose, but I don’t want to encourage them because they kill cactus wrens. I’ve noticed that they don’t seem to like tube feeders very much, so I switched over to them.
We get Downy Woodpeckers and also Gila Woodpeckers at times. Not so much now that we had the dead trees taken down, but the Downy does like the suet feeder and visits often.
He needs to be drinking a bunch of water and cranberry juice. Not only will that help flush his bladder out, it will keep him close to a bathroom due to the constant peeing. Someone who can’t go far from their bathroom usually spends more time sitting and laying down instead of rebuilding boats and such.
Oh dear, please keep us posted. Even lucky people have physical ailments on occassion.
Plumbing problems are the worse, you have my sympathy.
Are you sure he isn’t a cat?
Yesterday someone on Nextdoor offered up a couple of pounds of dates and walnuts for whoever wanted them. I gave the post a couple of hours, then when nobody else had replied, I asked for everything and today I turned them into date bars which came out yummy.
Before starting the date bars, I started a pot of cream cheese because it ripens better if the room is warm, so I’ll drain and hang that tomorrow.
I had enough dates to make a double batch, so I’ll be taking some to the man who gave me the dates tomorrow and then I’ll bring some to TC class because TC friend foolishly thinks that anything I make must be healthy. While I am sure that there are healthy date bar recipes out there, my recipe is anything but. *
GG likes to “help” in the kitchen, so when he got bored sitting on his chair, I gave him a paper bag. He still hasn’t gotten them figured out. He sits on them and will go in them, but if I sit one up on end and then drop one of his fuzzy balls in, the ball will stay there until one of us takes it out for him. He knows where it is, he looks in the bag from all 4 sides and I can tell that he can see it because he makes abortive attempts to stick his paw in and pull it out but he still hasn’t quite made the connection. Oh well, at least it keeps him occupied and out of the way.
I probably shouldn’t say anything, but it has been pretty quiet here. So far. This is good because things are dry and we have already had a home burn down in the area. People get pretty crabby about other people trying to burn their homes down this time of the year and we all have guns…
*Cooking tip: Dates are a pain to chop because they are so sticky and stick to whatever you are using to cut them, regular knife, plastic mezzaluna knife or food processor, doesn’t matter, dates will stick. Oddly enough, refined sugar helps the problem. Coat the dates with the sugar the recipe calls for and then chop to your heart’s content while mixing the rest of the sugar in, they won’t stick to the blades nearly as badly so you can cut them into nice even pieces.
Because this is the Dope and we are obligated to nitpick, dear, you do know that it’s “pedal to the metal” right? (Think absolutely flooring a car, pedal mashed to the floor.)
Now it’s my turn to clutch some pearls! swampy my goodness, I thought you waz a true-nuff Southerner, but now … man, I’m not sure what to think anymore …
Oh. MAH. GAWD.

I’ll let you know when the floor talks to me.
That’s when you know you gotta lay off the tequila for the rest of the night.

When you scold him, he will sit back, watch you, get up, turn his back with a flick of the tail, and trot away.
So he’s basically a cat that needs ironing?

had enough dates to make a double batch, so I’ll be taking some to the man who gave me the dates
Awwww, JtC got a date! Many dates, in fact … my goodness, when you said you used to be a floozy, you weren’t kiddin’.
Man, we were hoppin’ tonight! (To be expected, on a Saturday AND a holiday weekend.) Didn’t help that one of the guys got sent home early - I think he wasn’t feeling well. I heard my manager say to him, “Come talk to me in the back; you’re struggling right now” and then he was gone. He was supposed to be on till midnight, and trust me, about 11:15 p.m. we could’ve really used his skinny ass! Didn’t find out the actual story, but - and I write this without a trace of malice - I don’t give a flying fuck why he left. He was sick; he was high/drunk; he had a family emergency … the details are frankly unimportant to me beyond a moment of gossipy fun.
But it also makes me appreciate this manager even more for being professional & discreet, cuz that trash p.o.s. G.M. at my last place would’ve done it in front of the whole damn crew.
Alright, it’s almost 3 am and Monkey seems to think it’s playtime. Gonna toss him a few treats to chase, and try to get hungry again … oh, look! The last stub of a joint! How fortuitous.
Woke just before 2 because cat. Then guest dog needed to go out. It’s almost 4:30 and I can’t fall back to sleep. Dammit.
Sheesh, and I haven’t even gotten to bed yet! (Soon. Soon!)
I had a grilled cheese. Was yum. Wish I had the energy, or the time left in my night … er, early morning? … to scramble some eggs, too.
Whatevs. Imma go to bed. Tagging in for FCM I guess.
I gave up around 5:30. Dogs have been fed, cat is probably hiding under the bed again. She pooped on our rug because she’s afraid to come out of our room. She’ll be glad when I take Cozmo home this afternoon. So will I.
He’s old - 13, which is into his lifespan estimate. He’s stone deaf and I suspect he’s going blind, too. And he’s a trash dog - he’ll tip over the small cans and eat paper towels or any food waste (like peanut shells…) Daughter is already starting to prepare Roxy for when the dog dies.
Not sure if we’ll install the nameboards today or not. It’s rained on and off overnight and it’s still kinda dreary and wet out there. I need to get a couple of grocery items and there are dirties that have to be put in the dishwasher, but that’s it for my to-do list. I guess we’ll see how it all plays out. And if I can stay awake on 3 hours of sleep. Dammit.
Happy Sunday.
Morning, mumpers! It’s 16c/60f with a predicted high of 18c/64f and partly cloudy. Weather app says “Today is merely an average day with some fucking clouds.” Sounds fair to me, it’s overcast and breezy out there but that’s quite ok with me.
It’s been a fun weekend so far, we have been at a music festival so got to see lots of bands, and fiund some new ones we hadn’t seen before. I have seen a lot of people I know from other gigs so much hugging and chatting has been done. Six of us are sharing an airbnb house a 10-minute cab ride away so we have somewhere to hang around, natter and drink tea. More of the same today, when we finally get ourselves moving! Three of us are up, one of us only made it upstairs to bed an hour ago, and someone’s fitbit says he’s only had about 3hrs sleep. Good times, right!
Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 75 Amurrkin out and clear with a predicted high of 97 and mostly N.O.S. for the day. The big item on today’s agenda is deheathenization followed by first Sunday brunch which shall be an “indoor picnic” as folks have been asked to bring picknicky foodstuffs. I am Presider this mornin’ as we are sans Priest. This means I get to lead the service and prepare the reserved Sacrament for Communion and distribute the bread. Pimento cheese sammiches shall get made up shortly. Followin’ all that it will be back to da cave for an afternoon of high sloth to include nappage. We shall lay off quality cee-mint pond time today as we were out there for quite a while yestiddy. Inside in the a/c on a hawt day seems like a good idea.
BooFae glad y’all are havin’ such a good time. It’s fun to see folks you haven’t seen in a while.
There were some fireworks last night but not many and whoever was doin’ it stopped around ten p.m. I expect tonight, tomorrow, and Tuesday will sound more like a war zone.
JtC I know it’s borderline heresy, but it’s a good cheat Arnold Palmer to sip on out by the cee-mint pond. Sometimes it even includes vodka cause I also like an adulterated AP.
Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then sammiches must get made and purtification for deheathenization must commence.
Happy Sunday Y’all!
Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off today. It’s supposed to be Heat Index hot, so I shall stay in and clean. I dreamed Darci came home last night.

GG likes to “help” in the kitchen
Spot just stands in front of the fridge, and screams for cheese. He does seem to have a gnawin’ and a cravin’ for raw chicken though.
Good morning everyone.
Went to urgent care, and the nice and thorough young doctor couldn’t find anything alarming. He tested reflexes, looked to see if my eyes dilated normally, asked about dizziness, faintness, slurry speech or droopy face, etc. He thinks it’s some weird form of tension headache, but still wants me to check in with my regular PCP, which I will do. He didn’t address the pulsatile tinnitus.
He did say that he has been seeing a lot of bad headaches the last couple of weeks. We’ve been having our first hot-ass weather, and he says that always brings it out. I mentioned my old-person insomnia (waking up at 1 a.m. and never getting back to sleep), and he advised melatonin. I nodded and smiled and didn’t mention that I had tried that stuff once and all it did was give me vivid unsettling dreams.
So whatever. I’ll see what my regular doc says on 7/12.
Today, before the thermometer soars to 100, we’ll go and grab some KFC (Korean fried chicken). There’s a chain that makes the bestest fried chicken I ever had - Von’s Fried Chicken, and it’s not too far away.
Happy Sunday, everyone! I must’ve been dreaming I was Dorf-ing my way up Everest because my right knee woke me up, so I’m lying here listening to my neighbor’s snores.Today is Take a Fuchsia to Lunch Day. Since mine are in a window box, I shall take lunch to them. In other words, I’m feeding them and my other plants. Such excitement! But my kids will call later, which really IS excitement.
All the talk upthread about sky raisins reminds me of my late, great English setter(ish), who’d go into point whenever he saw one land. He was a sweet boy. People used to ask to borrow him to go bird hunting we’d have to reveal his humiliating (to him) secret: he was gun-shy. My hubs and a neighbor took him one time, and at the first blast, he took off running for the truck. He was a gentle soul who’d been abused by whatever anus owned him before we came along, and I was relieved nobody suggested training him out of it. He had an eye for the ladies, so clearly his slogan was, “Make love, not war.”
Lucky, what did the doc say?

it’s a good cheat Arnold Palmer to sip on out by the cee-mint pond. Sometimes it even includes vodka
I believe that would make it an Arthur Palmerski, comrade.
FCM, I don’t know whom to feel sorrier for, Cozmo or your pets. I’m looking forward to photos of the boat avec name boards.
The skies are making up for the month long drought. It is pouring. I welcome it but everyone will be p1ssing and moaning that the rain ruined their holiday weekend. Going to a friends for a cookout later this afternoon. I hope they have an emergency backup plan for grilling.
Ursala Kitteh is sleeping in her paper bag, snoring to beat the band.
Morning all. Bladder got me up about 4am and then got up about 6:30 to begin the day. Heading to the mid-90’s again, and future forecasts are showing a 30-40% chance of storms every day for the rest of the week, so not much outside work is planned. Will head off to the Golden Corral in a few hours to stuff myself, then maybe go to the gym to atone…we’ll see. Otherwise I will try and emulate swampy in doing sloth.
Had a few random fireworks after 9pm last night, expecting more each night for the next several days. Oh joy.
doggio, shoe, You both brought big grins to my face this morning with your posts; thank you.
JtC, loved the new GG story.
boo fae, sounds like it’s a real fun weekend, keep enjoying.
Don’t think I’ve ever had an Arnold Palmer, adulterated or no; never sounded that appealing to me.
OK, onward into the day. Have a good one, all
The music festival sounds like it was fun BooFae.
swampy, when your church is using reserved communion when you are sans priest, is there a homily involved? If so, who gives it?
Up, caffeinating, breakfasted and taking a break from Sunday chores to post. Not a whole lot shaking today, so I’ll do a bit more work on the wedding album. We’re not supposed to get more storms, so I may go out and spend some time reading on the patio later.
Stay safe and healthy y’all!

prepare the reserved Sacrament for Communion and distribute the bread. Pimento cheese sammiches shall get made up shortly.
Back to back, these sentences … confused me.

I dreamed Darci came home last night.
Awwww.

He was a gentle soul who’d been abused
You were both lucky to have each other.

He had an eye for the ladies, so clearly his slogan was, “Make love, not war.”
Ah, a leg-humper, eh?
Alright, time to locate First Breakfast and get some more sleep. Still gotta recuperate from Long Night, yanno.
Good morning, everyone.
It’s 57F and sunny outside. The expected high is 81F, with variable light winds and clear skies.
doggio, it would be wonderful if your dream comes true.
Your Golden sounds sweet, nellie. Polar had also clearly been abused before he adopted me. It took him a long while to realize he would be loved and not abused here. He did not like young men, especially young men in caps. But, he took to my son and husband right away, probably because they were part of my pack, and he trusted me immediately.
I hope all goes well with the PCP, teela.
I did quite a few outdoor chores yesterday, although I still haven’t washed the Jeep. I am currently watering a portion of my lawn and will water two more sections before the morning is done. It’ll be time to move the sprinkler in about 10 minutes.
My county finally enacted an ordinance that states fireworks could only be set off on Independence Day in the unincorporated portion of the county. I live in the unincorporated part. I was skeptical this would work because there are a lot of dumbasses out here. However, until last night, it has been relatively quiet here. Fireworks used to go off here starting the second week of June. It was ridiculous. Unfortunately, last night some jerk decided to have a show that began at 5:00 pm with stuff bigger than M80s, which lasted until 2:00 this morning. I know because I was still awake. Hopefully, tonight will be a bit quieter since tomorrow is Monday, but the 4th will be a doozy.
Today is laundry day and includes washing the bedding. I have a few dirty dishes to load in the dishwasher, and I might do more pruning in the front. I have an electric hedge trimmer that will make short work of some of the bushes. I’ll have to use the loppers on the other bushes though.
Okay, time for another cup of coffee and to move the sprinkler. Onward with my rather boring and mundane day, but I am on the topside of the grass, which is important to keep in mind.
Twitter now thinks I am automated. 011010001010 00110100101, to you, Mr. Musk!

doggio, it would be wonderful if your dream comes true.

Polar had also clearly been abused before he adopted me. It took him a long while to realize he would be loved and not abused here.
Yeah, I would like to see what a Darci tail wag looks like.
An Arnold Palmer with vodka is a John Daly.
Tis a little cooler today, only heading for 75. I think I’ll tackle the shrubbery beside the driveway. It is getting a bit much.
The joys of home ownership. I honestly don’t miss it at all. Every time I called a plumber it was $500, except for the last time, which ended up at $25K.
