I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to try to dissuade you just to state what it was like when my daughter lived there in 2010-2012. I would definitely go for it, if offered and the MN job doesn’t materialize. It’s not like you have to retire from there, but as others have said, it could be the next stepping stone job that will look good on a resume. And the painted buffalo, er bison, that are located around town are artsy.
I just had to share this. I thought it was catchy.
Howdy ‘all, been a couple weeks.
Last time I dropped in I mentioned the call I got from my daughters boyfriend inviting me to his proposal to my daughter. Here’s the update:
I flew out Friday morning to Wichita, got in around noon and relaxed at the hotel that night. Saturday morning I drove an hour south to a small town where there is a game store they both love. There I met my ex wife (her mom), her husband, and the boyfriends parents. We chatted for awhile and hid in the back of the store.
Around noon they walked in - he made her close her eyes and positioned her to receive a present he bought from the store (it was their second anniversary). Then as he went to one knee she spotted her mom and exclaimed.
The proposal was made and gladly accepted. Then she spotted the rest of us and I received a bear hug (she loves to hug) before passing her off to the rest of the family. It was very nicely done. The ring is a family heirloom from his folks.
We all then decamped to a hotel a few miles away to relax and enjoy each other’s company. Then dinner, a little more chatting and an early retirement as everyone was worn out. I flew out early Sunday morning.
The boy did it right - very well done - proud of them all. No date set and not likely soon, even his parents insist she complete her degree before thinking of a wedding. I approve.
I also had a great opportunity to get to know my ex’s husband better - nice fellow - and I think I helped bring that side of the family a bit closer.
Oh, and before I went to bed Saturday I got a text informing me I won 2 regional Emmy awards. To be fair that’s it a huge deal, they give those things away like condoms at a college health center, but I’ll admit it was a laughably nice way to cap an already great day.
So that’s the update from my world. Thanks for giving it a read.
How wonderful on all counts!
Nellie, not only do I not mind, I am very grateful. Thank you very much! Hubs has always been a very even keel guy but today when he tried to ask about life expectancy and the Dr didn’t understand, I asked in frank terms and he seemed somewhat stoically emotional after the answer. I’m carrying on, trying to keep a stiff upper lip.
2gigch1 what she said
Have filtered water; feeling sleepy; calling it a night.
Up from naptime, and somebody is screaming for cheese. Which is fine, since it’s cheeseburger and Old Fashioned night. So far no storms around here.

I just won’t go there on the joke I was thinking.
Red, I come from a big Mormon family, with my mom being one of six kids and I’m one of 34 grandkids. One aunt only had one child, or there would have been 40.
My uncle is the oldest and started a little late, and there 10 or so of us within sixish years I think there is less than 20 years from the oldest to the youngest.
There’s a greater spread in greatgrandchilden range, from about 44 to 10.
Even within my family, the oldest nephew is 41(?) and SenBoy is the youngest at 12. My older brother started early and I was much older.
I guess I may be the only one who did have a drinking problem with not very pretty consequences. It’s been 11 years now, and I’m still happy I got out of that nightmare.
We did more sailing over the weekend. As I said last week, SenGirl participates in the prelim this coming weekend.
It burns up the weekends and then I’m falling behind with housework and lesson planning. The house is a mess.
SenWife comes back today but many not to a clean house.
I got down the last couple of days. There’s just so much stuff and I’m not keeping track of it all. We have monthly PTA meetings and one of the classes sends off reminders and the other doesn’t. I need to get more organized. When we were in Taiwan, SenWife had to do more of all that because I didn’t speak the language, but there’s no excuse for my sloth here.
Too much to do and not enough time. Grrr.
I’ve skimmed the posts from last Friday, so I’ve missed a lot.
Cookie, I’m so glad I grew up in a period where doing stupid things didn’t have as many consequences. I hope things go as well as they can.
FlyBoy, wow! Your vocations are hard core. From last week, it’s like guacamole, but most people use that with the specific flavorings. I either serve it as is or on toast for the kids.
I had a very bad relationship with meth back in my younger days. It was a very abusive lover, and the break up was not easy. It actually took quitting my job, giving up all of my user “friends” and leaving the state so I didn’t have easy access. I also gave up watching TV and a bunch of movie genres because watching someone doing a line brought it all back again.
Nowadays, just to be sure that I am in control of all of my bad habits, I give up drinking coffee, alcohol and smoking weed for a week each once a year. (Not all at once, I like being happily married.)
FCM, do you know that if you “accidently” call an ambulance and hang up, the EMTs will show up anyhow. If you can’t get through to him like a reasonable adult, there really are other options.
I actually said something like that to the class group chat. Folks are upset and bitching so I reminded them about how it was back when we were young and in love and had just got learned about how much fun sex and romance was…there were lots of old lady titters and pearl clutching while the chat turned to how handsome our men looked in their tux’s. The designer contacted me privately and said that while she was planning on giving all of us a credit for next year’s class because she knew she had been distracted, I will get a double one because I made everyone laugh about how much fun it was to be young and newly wed.

I’m carrying on, trying to keep a stiff upper lip.
Prayers continue, not just for him, but for you as well. I have blood and bone marrow I would be willing to donate if we were a match. PM me if this is something that might help.
Evening all. Got the shopping-n-sammich-n-swimming-n-sauna all done today and that was about all-did manage to solve the Monday NY Times puzzles. Had a Whataburger for Dinner (their fries are nearly as good as Mickey D’s, IMHO) so evening sloth is now in session. Tomorrow will be balancing the checkbook, check the water meter, check on prices for a short July vacation, and write a check for cash, so lots of checks tomorrow (should be living in Prague…). Temperature is 81F so still have the AC on, supposed to get into the mid-60’s tonight so will open some windows and let nature keep me cool for sleeping.
Sensei, glad you beat your problem. Stay strong. And there is never enough time.
FCM, keep after him, tell him you’d like to keep him around for awhile yet, you’re really counting on him being there for your 50th Anniversary.
2gig, sounds like it was a great visit and congrats on the awards!!
nellie, hope the person at the other end is just as upright a person as you are. And I really need to get my driveway/sidewalks powerwashed.
flyboy, that’s a lot of heavy lifting for a vacation; take it easy.

I think it may be a “watch Doctor Who and read a book” night. Seems like a good way to spend a Moanday evening.
Or most any evening, IMHO.

Maybe now that she’s getting laid on a regular basis, she will be able to get her mind back on her work
You win the internet this week, my dear.
Quietly, seems like Cheddar is fitting into the household quite nicely. Hope it continues.
Pilot, sounds like you made the most of your time there; never been to Costa Rica yet, but I’ve heard it’s a pretty nice place.
Wet one, best wishes to Sis and BIL; and wouldn’t First Class on an airline be cheaper than a private flight?
carnut (maybe motorhead for a MMP name?), sorry about losing your cats; hope work comes through for you.
lucky, nice old cartoon from the ‘old days’. Much thanks.
OK, just looked at the clock and it’s nearly 9pm, so need to get the internettin’ done and do some reading before bedtime. All y’all take care.
My lovely wife is making crustless Shepherd’s Pie for dinner.
So shepherd’s pit without the potatoes/colcannon? I might have to try that.
Only… Trader Joe’s hasn’t carried cheap leg-o-lamb in a decade or so. Roast leg-o-lamb became shepherd’s pie the next day.
With potatoes, but no flour shell (which her recipe called for). Much better en casserole.
Had a 30 second power failure at 10:17EST. Took a few minutes for the Intraweb tube to unclog.
Again

With potatoes, but no flour shell (which her recipe called for).
Huh. I’ve never made it with a shell. Here’s my recipe:
- Run the leftover leg-o-lamb through the meat grinder.
- Mix in the gravy (or the appropriate amount of gravy) that was made the previous night with the roast drippings.
- Mix in a can of drained Veg-All (because I’m too lazy to cut fresh veg).
- Put into a casserole dish.
- Top with leftover mashed potatoes or colcannon (whatever I made).
- Bake until done.
I suppose I could look up a recipe, but where’s the fun in that?
Sounds delicious.
Thunderstorm!
Good golly we’re a verbose bunch!
I have survived the back procedure. Ugh. I talked to the dr about why he wants me sedated but aware during the procedure. It’s so he can use my pain reactions as a partial guide. Wahhhhhh! It hurts like a, a, a LOT. It usually helps though, so it’s worth it.
Happy Monday everyone.

I have great difficulty imagining you boring in any way.
You are always so super sweet that I wanted to say thank you but forgot to include you in my last posts. Imma blaming thread brain. I think of you every day when I see the hummers frolicking around the fuchsia and columbines. Thank you.
