(Old) A Good Read in the MMP

And a good early evening all. Did the 3pm game (80 minutes long) and was resting in preparation for the 5pm game when another ref asked if he could do it. Since he looked in a lot better condition than me, I let him do it and, after mailing a contribution to the DNC came on home. Will dine on Fettuchini here in a little bit, but the games and the heat have worn me down more than I expected. Should do mowage tomorrow but we’ll see what I feel like then. Only 87F now at 6pm…

susan, I dared (and kinda wished I hadn’t).

swampy, glad to hear the session went well.

FCM, I get about 300HP for my Dodge SUV (albeit I probably get better MPG and it’s a lot less than $100,000…

And think I will stick the Lean Cuisine pasta into the Mircrowave. Have a good evening all.

lol hubs looking them over in envy?

Hey, I just noticed something did Nellie disappear or say she was going anywhere and I missed it?

Also to everyone who still goes to mcd’s … is it just mine that seems to put out flavorless over overcooked sloo for burgers and undercooked fries? the best thing about last night’s dinner was the ketchup was fresh and the Coke from there lived up to its reputation … and the fillet of fish is still the saddest looking sandwich ever made and not its no bigger than a hamburger …
lol all this talk about the fair reminds me since it’s our last break from the heat (aka fake fall cause everyone not used to it just assumes summer is over and gets out the warmer clothes, turns off the AC, and such only for it to go back to 95-100 f until right around Halloween)

normally its this time of year starts this Friday and goes until Labor Day and was the last social event of the summer but the year right before COVID they canceled the huge LA County fair for reasons and ours took advantage of it and booked their ride company instead of the usual places for ours and the reception was great then covid happened and we didn’t have a fair for 2 years and almost a 3rd because everything was so booked up so they had it in October and since it wasn’t hot and its one of the last fairs of the year attendance was up so now its in October

Since I can’t go on a lot of the rides anymore I just went for the animals and junk food …deep fried Mississippi mud pie … yes please lol tho these days they cheat on a lot of the stuff …

And this is just one of the reasons you are my favorite mod!

Do you have different search functions available or was I just being stoopid? Both are equally possible, it was late and it seems like I stop braining around mid-afternoon anymore.

They came out yum. The recipe called for three tablespoons of Worstershire sauce. I triple checked because that seemed like a lot to me, but it worked very nicely. I’ll give you the recipe if you want, but you probably already have your own fav.

Snerk. She’s a keeper, LOL!

Oh yeah, he fit right in

Have you seen Bella/Jolene yet?

Imgur

She’s stolen both my men and I’m the one who wanted to bring her home!

Thanks Mom!!!

And I agree, there are so many times I’ve wished that watering a tree was an option.

I am so sorry about what’s happening with MIL. I have to admit that if she was my cat…

I am so happy you are enjoying it. We always loved finding new trails in ours. Do be sure you keep your phone charged, one horrible day we had to call 911 for help finding our way out due to unexpected flooding. Thankfully we didn’t enter the water, so we didn’t have to pay for the helicopter guide. (AZ has a stupid motorist law, if you are stoopid enough to drive into running water, you have to pay for your rescue.)

I’ve always been told that successful diet control includes allowing yourself treats now and then. I’m glad you enjoyed them.

Happy organizing! Re-shelving books at the library always makes my brain happy.

Oh, he loves her when she isn’t trying to get laid. They cuddle and play and groom each other. She loves him back, they are almost together or at least in the same room. I’ll be so happy when this is resolved, she’s a delightful lil girl who just upsets the entire household when she starts wailing.

Looks all proud and stuff.

I’m glad you son is recovering well. I know that you are a mom so your job is to worry and fuss…but please try to trust the doctors.

Ya need some snakes, but hurray for Roxy, good kitty!!!

Hubs put a bird feeder pole up for me and I hung a hummer feeder on it. It was nice to not have to hang it 6 feet high to keep the roadrunners from eating the hummers. I’ve already seen two visitors. Or maybe one repeat customer.

Hubs really doesn’t want me feeding seed anymore because it is so messy. I’ve agreed that I will feed suet instead and he suggested we go to the local Tractor Supply sto, but I am pretty sure I am boycotting them over their stance on gay charities, so I ordered some suet from Amazon. It will get here before we would get motivated to buy some anyhow. (I just checked, and yes I am still boycotting TS.)

Did you ever make it to the Orange Show in San Bernardino? I loved the displays and still have one of those cheapo miracle knives. After watching someone slicing tomatoes thin enough to fling on the wall and stick, I had to have one. It’s my favorite bread knife.

There is going to be a fair in town next month and I’m looking forward to eating too much bad food and seeing the animals.

…and now there is another hummer at the feeder and Bella is losing her mind.

Awww, you are so sweet. Thank you.

I just pulled up Shoe’s profile and searched her posts. I knew it was less than a month ago that she was worried about the dose of flea meds she was giving Monkey. But then, I’m used to trawling through threads looking for posts, so it wasn’t a big deal. I was happy to help!

(And you are never stoopid OR stupid!)

He’s quite fond of going places so remote that we don’t have reception.

you know when it was first mentioned I thought FCM posted that lol It took a few secs …

JtC - Bella/Jolene brought to mind my daughter’s turtle - Carla Herman. They thought it was a girl, then the vet said it was a boy, then a girl. So instead of one name or the other, she/he/whatever has both. Because why not?

Did I mention I’m bringing BIL over tomorrow to see his mother? She doesn’t want us to tell him her true condition. We’re supposed to say she’s fine.

Too late. FCD already told him. She’s always trying to shield him. As if he won’t figure it out when she dies.

Ok, bed time. I’s exhausted!

I napped. I got up and had a Vieux Carré, and Asian BBQ stirfry. Watching F1 practice and quali.

Well, the N.C. subspecies is invisible. and underground.

“I drank 6 Moray martinins. It made me eel.”

You’re just bitter because you got dethroned as Head Floozy.

First thought for me, too.

Just got a call from Buddy’s vet. She says his bloodwork looks good, except for blood sugar being a bit elevated. She says that’s not to a serious point just yet, but it’s time to start tapering down the steroid, so now I only have to mug him once per day rather than twice. Allie’s lost interest in treats anyway (maybe I need to get a different variety).

I really need to get some Vieux Carré fixin’s.

Shake 'N Bake poke Cheops with Yukon Gold mashed potatoes (w/unsalted butter, heavy cream, and salt – no pepper because of The Spousal Unit’s tummy), and country gravy (with pepper – it is what it is) for dinner tonight. I had a glass of cheap red plonk, and a ginnentonnic.

hey i know some of yall like cocktails and a place I get mailings from sent me this

https://www.whiskyshop.com/blog/prohibition-era-cocktail-recipes

Anybody else got a weird thingy with this board? When I get on it goes to the last post, not where I was last at. Oddly it seems to be only with this, and the last few MMP threads.

It’s not like it’s going to come running when you call it. :stuck_out_tongue:

The Mexican joint across the street (in the spot where my former hellhole BBQ job was) opened a coupla days ago.

Their parking lot has been FULL since then, and we were damn dead yesterday, for a Friday, and even dead-er today.

Sweet Manager said anytime a new eatery opens in a town this small, it attracts a lot of local attention.

… but … but … bastards are stealing our bizness!

Anyway, I tried 'em today on my break - haven’t had a tamale since leaving Texas - and their stuff is pretty tasty, if rather light on seasonings.

Midwestern preferences, I suppose.

(They need a “don’t skimp on the cumin, cilantro, and chili powder” option.)

Called my mother tonight for a chat, since she informed me, today, that she’s flying out tomorrow to Ye Olde Country for a solid month for some excursions and can I check in with Dad once in a while?

Tonight was the first night all week that I didn’t close. S.M. made a point of cutting me as soon as possible. I couldn’t believe I was clocking out at 9 p.m. on a Saturday.
Was it because I was visibly tired & fading … or because by then I was a coupla hours into overtime and getting quite expensive to keep around, especially in light of the scant orders? The pessimistic among us world may never know.

Okay, I need about a zillion showers and a zillion bowls. Plus, moar fud!

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 70 Amurrkin out and clear with a predicted high of 90 and N.O.S. The big (and I do mean biiiiiig!) item on today’s agenda is deheathenization. It’s Bishop day with confirmations, receptions, the celebration of new ministry for NP, and the big fancy eatin’ reception afterward. We shall, in about an hour, make many chikin sallit sammiches. Needless to say this afternoon shall be filled with RDOS inactivities, with nappage bein’ chief amongst them.

.JtC GG and Bella/Jolene look so sweet together! She is a little heart stealer.

I have not been to the local county (area actually) fair in years. I also have not been to the Jawja National (really, not state, but national) Fair in years. Interest is no longer there.

Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then many sammiches must be made and purtification for deheathenization must commence.

Happy Sunday Y’all!

Morning, mumpers! It’s currently 15c/60f with a predicted high of 17c/62f and partly cloudy. Weather app says “Just think, at least it’s not fucking freezing outside.” Indeed, it is not.

We had a really good time at our friend’s party last night, saw her and her husband, and caught up with a load of friends we hadn’t seen for a very long time. It was an interesting drive, 45 minutes through winding country lanes with deep hedges so you can’t see what’s coming towards you. Even better going home in the dark! Anyway, we survived the drive, and were home just before midnight.

Up reasonably early today to put some colour on my hair, then I need to set up the automated cat feeders for tonight, get some breakfast, get my stuff together and get out of the house in the next hour or so. I need to get some petrol as well, and then we’ll be heading up towards Manchester for Rockwich '24. An overnight stay, and then home tomorrow for some serious slothing in the afternoon.

{{{{{FairyChats}}}}}

Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off today. I shall clean in the morning, then Spot and I shall sloth in the afternoon.

I can’t get Chartreuse around here(just Creme de Violette :face_with_raised_eyebrow:), but I recommend those others.

It’s 17 Centipedes right now in N.C. It might as well be freezing.

Spot has a voice activated one.

Our county fair runs Sept 19-22. We go because of the kids - they like seeing the animals and doing some of the rides. All the schools close on the 20th and it’s student day - I think they do wristband rides all afternoon (all the rides you want for $10 or something like that.) The funnest one was when Roxy was one - she baaaaaah’d back at the sheep. The video is hilarious!

FCD went to fetch McBreakfast. I’ve scooped cat poo and loaded last night’s dishes into the dishwasher - yeah, I was lazy. MIL is still abed, which is no surprise. We’re supposed to get a visit from a hospice nurse and before I fetch BIL, I’ll stop and get some pee pads for the bed. Just out of idle curiosity, is there a difference between people pads and puppy pads? I will be buying people pads, but I was wondering…

I slept with Mel last night, but still woke shortly after 3. So I messed with the tablet till I was tired again, then crashed till almost 7:30!! Poor Higgs - her bladder had to be busting! But she’s been tended to, I’m showered and dressed, and all is quiet around the Estate… so far.

I got a message from BBBoo - she hopes to rejoin us soon. Lots of crap going on in her life keeping her away from us. But I, also, am worried about nellie’s absence. That’s the problem with Imaginary Internet Friends - you don’t always know how to check up on them. What to do, what to do.

For now, onward! Happy Sunday!!

If the laundry stays clean, it means you’re likely just sitting in a rocking chair all day which definitely wouldn’t be writing a book that would get banned in Floreedah.

I love this topic. I’ve been a voracious reader all of my life, well starting from when I learned to read in first grade. (not so humble brag: I read the most books in my first grade class; the nun gave us a sticker for each book we read and I was the only person who not only filled one pictograph with stickers, I was well on my way to filling a second one). I like a lot of different kinds of literature, some of my favorite authors are Jean Auel (Earth’s Children series), Aline-Countess of Romanones (she wrote 3 books about her time in the CIA predecessor during WWII in Spain, The Spy Wore Red, The Spy Wore Silk, The Spy Went Dancing), John Grisham, Sue Grafton (alphabet books), James Patterson (Alex Cross series and Women’s Murder Club series), Laura Ingalls Wilder (Little House series). Lately I’ve been reading a lot of books that I’ve gotten out of the little free libraries in Chicago neighborhoods near where my daughter is living/has lived; quite eclectic choices.

Happy Sunday!

It’s good to see you back cat glove! You’ve been missed.

Up, caffeinating, breakfasted and fixing to do KP / Sunday chores. After that, a day of mostly sloth is ahead.

Stay safe and healthy y’all!
