(Old) A Good Read in the MMP

I’d have to say my favorite genres are historical fiction and mysteries. However, I’m currently reading Parallel Journeys. It’s about a Jewish girl who lived during WWII, and a German boy who became a part of Hitler’s Youth Force. It’s a true story, I haven’t gotten to how this happens yet, but they meet and do lectures together.
I think it’s a very good read. Her resilience in the face of everything she lived through is inspirational. I also had no idea of the, I’ll call it the maniacal loyalty the young kids had to Hitler, and how hard it was for so many of them to come to realize the atrocities he had committed.

Happy Sunday morning! It’s supposed to hit 90°F today, but right now it’s only 69 and breezy. As long as we keep getting cool mornings like this, I (mostly) don’t care what the afternoons bring.

Dinner with my BFFs (celebrating Wife BFF’s birthday) was great: rice, corn, and chicken legs that had been marinated in some combo of things that tasted kinda like teriyaki. And, there were fresh homemade chocolate chip cookies. Yum! The weather was nice enough for us to eat on their deck, the birthday gifts I gave were well received, and it was good to see Husband BFF for the first time in a month or so.

My afternoon calendar items are dropping by a local jazz jam session around 2:30-3:00 and then meeting friends for an early (4:00-7:00) jazz trumpet show. At the moment I’m feeling quite homebody-ish and don’t wanna even plan to go anywhere/do anything today, but I know I might feel differently in a few hours. (Most Saturday/Sunday mornings start with me not wanting to leave the house at all that day; I know myself well enough to wait it out and not cancel any plans based on that feeling.) Maybe I’ll skip the jam session and just go meet my friends. I’ve always preferred trumpet to saxophone (I’m a brass fan), and I know/like the guy who’s playing this evening. And I’m curious about the venue, which I’ve never been to but is close to home. Supposedly it has a “dive bar” vibe, which could be right up my alley. Yeah…skipping the jam session might be the way to go.

This week will be a touch on the busy side, but hopefully not crazy. Tomorrow I’ll work from the nearby corporate proposal center all day (to facilitate my attendance at a 12:30-3:30 in-person meeting), Tuesday I have a mid-day tattoo removal session and an evening personal training appointment, Thursday afternoon I have a virtual voice lesson, and Wed-Fri one of my direct reports will be on vacation and all of our procurement and staffing tasks will fall to me. I’m hoping that a lot of folks will take Thurs and Fri off for the Labor Day weekend/holiday. :crossed_fingers:

I actually love the idea of Mumper dogs “talking” to each other across the miles!

Ooooo, pretty! I think my favorite is the one with the bow, but they’re all beautiful.

That is a great picture.

As someone who has purchased both for her doggy, I will say “nope.” I started off buying disposable puppy pads, but when they became a regular necessity I decided that getting larger, washable people pads was better/more economical (and the people pads often have a non-slip backing, which is a bonus these days as my old girl sometimes has traction issues on the hardwood floors). Ignore the marketing and get whatever type of waterproof pad seems like it will work the best!

I’m sorry she’s dealing with so much right now, but I’m glad someone heard from her. :two_hearts: Hopefully nellie will return soon, as well.

I loved those books when I was younger! I never really watched the show, though.

…unlike James Herriot’s All Creatures Great and Small series, which I have adored in all its forms: the books, the original TV series, and the current remake.

I’m making spammeneggs for breakfast.

Read that as spammage. Good word!

MIL is up and not hurting as much, tho she doesn’t remember the fall on Firday, nor does she remember yesterday. But she was on morphine most of the day…

Hospice nurse is coming after lunch. Not much else happening.

Morning all, slept in until after 8am and then needed 3 stops to find my Sunday NY TImes plus getting a quick $15 gas fill at Circle K so very soon I’ll need to get dressed and head out for my early Sunday Dinner. Heading to 93F today, should mow the lawn but will wait for the evening when/if it cools down some. Otherwise will rest and recover from yesterday’s exertions.

Have read all but still not comprehending well (have some You Tubers on in the background) so yeahs, boos, hugs and general joy and happiness to all.

Regarding Pretty Girl, our outdoor cat: I spoke to Sunflower about catching her and getting her to the vet. Sunflower has gotten really close to her while I have not. Pretty Girl has a tipped ear. She evidently has had a vet visit and has been spayed.

Good morning.

As I type this, it’s 57F and partly cloudy. Our expected high temperature is 75F, and there will be a mixture of clouds and sun throughout the day.

Those are pretty cards, red.

JtC, I love the protective leg/arm thrown over Jo-Bella in the picture. I use no-mess bird feed from Wild Birds Unlimited. Plus, I have little trays that mount under the feeders. This cuts down significantly on the mess, but a little falls below as the birds fling something to the ground. I have pavers under my feeder, so it’s easy enough for me to clean up.

I’m glad you enjoyed the party, Boo-Fae!

FCM, sending you thoughts of peace in the coming days. I hope the BiL visit goes easy for you all.

I need to run to Mud Bay today to pick up some more dog food and do some laundry.

I am annoyed with my vet’s office today. On Friday, when we spoke the vet, she mentioned Maisie was moderately overweight. She mentioned NOTHING about sensitive skin. Yesterday, I received a message from the vet’s office recommending (probably very spendy) dog food for dogs with sensitive skin. Given the fact that she first told me Maisie’s right ear was infected, then later in the day told me it was her left ear, I don’t know what to think about her. I much prefer the young male veterinarian they have there. I still haven’t heard about the surgical estimate. I don’t want to start over at another vet because around here, it’s tough to get into a vet’s office as a regular patient. I was going to wait until Monday and call them, but I think I’ll just email them with my concerns.

Okay, it’s time for some more coffee.

:100:
GG has the look that he managed to catch her. She’s got that other look. That look that she’s the one who did all the planning and made him think that he caught her. She’s definitely the brains.

She’s letting you think that.

That’s today’s high. Yesterday was 33 Centipedes. Weather’s weird.

I have forwarded these to my dad as recommendations, as they sound like something he’ll enjoy.

We’re going on a cruise next month which goes through Quebec. There’s a Facebook group and someone was asking about Louise Penny tours. Somehow I thought she might be an actor and didn’t realize that she’s an author. So I just bought the first Inspector Gamache book on Kindle to read when I get time - which might be on the flight to the US.

Yesterday was too warm to think, but we managed to get a lot of things done, including figuring out which excursions we want to do. I need to update the plan. With all previous trips my mom makes the arrangements and my dad puts it all in a plan. So far I haven’t seen one from them, so I created one for the cruise. I need to add laundry details as well. There’s a app for the cruise, and they do pretty well with technology, but paper is still quite handy, also for me, especially I’ll be doing the wrangling on ship.

One benefit of it being cooler - it’s much more comfortable to do ironing. So I should go take advantage of the cooler weather. Right?

So Gentleman Caller and I are officially back together. I’m way too tired to go into details at the moment, but as this was the second time he’s come over since we … I dunno, un-broke-up? … I’m O.K. with finally making that report.

Quite pleased at this development. I know, I know, he done me kinda wrong back there. But we’ve talked through it, and I understand better what happened.

I think Jo-Bell just got herself a nickname!

Yeah, you do.

Concur.

Have we taught you nothing about slothing?

MetalMouse - only $15 to fill? Are you riding a moped now? :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

FCD is going own to check the boat then pick up his brother. So I’m waiting here for the nurse and running the good ice maker. MIL is sleeping in her chair. Higgs is snoring in her bed. Max chillage hereabouts.

Purple, I can almost relate.
I visited a different church today, it kilt me cause I love mine So much.
It was to get a chance to talk with my sortof ex. Will explain later.
We talked.
We shall see.

When you have to eat your sandwich standing up in the kitchen because your cat is a lunchmeat slut

ROMANONES EUNT DOMMUS!

Those are pretty, red.

A TNR grad like Spot.

< cancels Tonya Harding hire > For now

Sorry, was typing fast since dinner time was approaching… Just added several gallons to the tank for in-and-around driving, Firday I’ll do my September shopping at Kroger and get much points that will hopefully save me $1.00/gallon and will use that on the fill-up. At least that is the plan.

Longhorn Steakhouse was prompt with service and dinner so home in good time and will head off to the gym to work off a lot of those calories here in a bit. Mowage will be later in the day.

Hippie, sounds a bit like Buddy, Nettie’s and Bob-B’s cat, may have a family elsewhere but likes shopping around. Or abandoned… :slightly_frowning_face: Or doggio is right and Trap-Neuter-Release.

Taters, you have every reason to be annoyed; keep a record and see if they improve.

Dicey, 33C = 91F. We call that a normal summer day here in Ali-bama. Sounds like a fun cruise, neve travelled to that part of the world by ship, let us know how it goes.

Shoe, glad things are on the mend with G.C.…but is that the reason you’re way to tired?  :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

OK, after 1pm, so need to finish a couple things then off to the gym. Take care all.

Apparently the only reason I cook supper is because MIL is here. If I pull something out of the freezer, she has to say “You don’t need to cook just for me!” I think I liked it better when she was drugged and sleeping…

BIL is here, hardly talking. We’re still waiting for the nurse. All in all, a dull afternoon.

Annie and I are relaxing on the couch and MusicMan is upstairs napping after another round of battling with his music room. He’s trying to reorganize and is having a hard time because space is limited. I’ve tried to offer up my art room space, but he doesn’t want to take it over from me. However, most of the time now any creative work that I do is done downstairs on the kitchen table because it’s just easier on my knee that way.

Howdy Y’all! The service was large and in charge. Also loooooong, but I knew that it would be from the get go, so no complaints. I like that the installation of a new Priest is called the service of mutual ministry. The reception afterward was also large and in charge. So much food! All the chikin sallit thingys got et up so yay for that. I still don’t want anything else to eat, although popcorn will occur later.Nappage and day drinkin’ were accomplished. Also, the biiiiiig trash can has been hauled all the way down to the road for pickup tomorrow. Thus it is in swampland.

We went to church. A couple of people talked to The Missus about her squamous cell carcinoma. One woman gave her a very nice crocheted ‘shawl’ (more like a blanket).

We et the rest of the corned beef for lunch. Mine was grilled on Sara Lee Delightful Multi-Grain bread with Swiss cheese and thousand island dressing. I mad hers cold on Seattle Waterfront Sourdough bread with Swiss cheese, mayonnaise, and French’s yellow mustard (mustard on the meat side). And we had kosher dill pickle spears.

I’ve taken the trash and recycling out to the street.

Between lunch and trash, a little old lady (94 years old, had to be under five feet tall) came to the door. She owns the house between the corner and the widower’s house, and wanted to know if I knew how to turn on the water. I grabbed the long water meter key and went over. By that time, her grandsons(?) had figured it out and had the water turned on except for about the last ten degrees on the valve. All they needed was my heavy-duty tool.

Now we’re watching The Apartment (1960) on TCM. It just started.

I’m sure they’ll take you back.

Talking can be good. Communication can be good.

:musical_note: " … that’s amore … " :notes:

This made me smile. It’s nice to know my imaginary internet stranger-friends have my back … and also, what a nostalgia trip!

Such simpler times.

I left it ambiguous for a reason, get yer mind outta the gutter …

… nah, y’all know me better than that; we’ll go with 50/50 shared blame with my rather intense work schedule last week.

Thank you for the reminder!

… to set a reminder. For later.

Cuz right now, Shoe is stuffing her face, and would like to make the trash bin - and its prequel, the Scooping Of The :poop: Box - into Future Shoe’s problem.

Currently, a chicken pot (snerk) pie and some leftover refried beans beckon.

It’s currently 87 :imp: and supposed to do the same tomorrow.

Send help. And Popsicles. Coolio can only do so much.

Thank you all for the compliments on the cards.

Today, I figured out that I need to leave sharp objects alone. First, I sliced my right index finger on a plastic yogurt carton when portioning the contents in go-to-irk containers. Oy!

The scary one though, was when I was trimming my toenails. I have a pair of clippers for the thick nails and when clipping one of them, I took a hunk-o-toe with it. I didn’t think I’d ever get it to stop bleeding (the blood thinners are definitely doing their job). Tomorrow, I’ll call my PCP’s office and set up an appointment for Firday to check on the progress. I’m very cautious about foot owies.

Sunday dinner was a delicious bowl of Brazilian fish stew. Now for more sloth.

I made tamales when my stove was installed and froze most of them. While chili powder and cumin were easy to source, I had to order the verde salsa online. (cilantro tastes like soap to me)

Hubs and I were both disappointed with them and thought they were way too mild and needed lots of pico. Fresh jalapenos are hard to find so when Hubs announced last night that his cousin and her hubby would be stopping over today for lunch, I didn’t have the makings for pico.

The tamales were too spicy. They hadn’t ever seen them wrapped in corn husks before. The store bought salsa was too spicy. The queso was too spicy. They are gracious people who tried to enjoy what I served but it was obvious that it was so not to their taste.

I sent them off with braunschweiger, tomato and mayo samwiches to eat on their trip. I’ll bet they didn’t make it to Charleston before stopping for second lunch.
