(Old) A New Hope in the MMP

ISWYDT.

Every once in a while at work, someone is aaalllllmost done making a pizza. I’ll toss a single pepperoni onto it, smile, and say, “See? I helped.”

Since you’re someone who’s generally not much for critters, I hope Ariel got a double-boop for that.

{ sobs } I thought we were fwennnnds!

As someone with mostly junk/bills-I-cant-pay, this is tempting. But, as someone who checks her mailbox maybe once a month (mostly cuz it’s stuffed full of, well … ) I dunno.

Gawds, I wish.

That leaves more for you, Dear!

I’ll be back in a bit, but had to share this moment of ???

LOL!

Ooh, that reminds me. For a while, in the early 1990s, I could not stand ice cream. Why, you ask? Because I spent most of the summer of 1990 working in an ice cream parlor. No, I didn’t eat too much of the stock. It was all the different aromas, creating a sickly-sweet miasma. So I spent several years avoiding ice cream. I gradually moved past it; I think it was when I had my own apartment, so I was shopping at grocery stores, and I got Ben & Jerry’s to take home, and it didn’t sicken me.

What blows my mind, though, was that a while back, I paid a visit to the same place I had been living then, and there was an ice-cream parlor, an independent one, right there on a street corner. I went in and tried a scoop of moose tracks, and it was incredible, like velvet vanilla. Were they new? No, they were there the whole time I was living in that neighborhood. I must have walked past them hundreds of times, and taken so little notice that I had zero memory of them having been there. And I could recall all the other stores and restaurants, including a few that had closed in the interim. Gah! What I missed.

If you’re out rambling Elkhart County sometime and get a hankerin’ for some great ice cream, Vic’s in Middlebury is a great place to get it. I highly recommend their butter pecan.

I can verify this. When you send her mail, send a singing telegram first presaging the mail’s arrival.

Would be good, or:

Or maybe:

So, yeah. Long lunch. I took the Prius down to the self-wash. I spent just short of half an hour with the power-washer, followed by the foaming brush and high-pressure rinse. I still couldn’t get all of the little moss specks off – nor the bug smashes. But it looks better than it did. I didn’t bother using the spray wax. Might have to get out the 80 grit…

I’m supposed to be notified when I receive an FTP file at irk. Haven’t been. Supposedly, the issue has been resolved… after I’ve received my FTP files.

Date night was at the Mexican place tonight.

Trump sucks.

Late night (well, only 9pm but I’ve been awake for 15 hours so I’ll call it that) final. Was at the soccer field anticipating a nice turnout, about 6-7 boys were early and we were warming up when the clouds rolled in and the thunder started booming, so everyone got to go home before it started raining. And when it rained, it poured…not long, maybe 20 minutes or so but everything got soaked (including me). Came home and ate dinner and did some soccer messaging and beginning to get a little weary. Need to do my Firday shopping list before bedtime so I’m ready to beat the rush. Temperature is down to 72F and that’s as cool as it is supposed to get and we’ll be back to 90F tomorrow.

Time for the evening scroll…

VanGo, I do hope this job lasts awhile, it’s obvious you like kids and making things that excite their wonder and amazement. Many worst jobs than that.

wet one, sounds like Ariel ha a better day than I did…

red, when is pickup day again? Sounds like the clock is getting very short.

Knots, our alert siren goes off every Wednesday at noon and only for one cycle, so if the weather was bad and I heard it a second time, I’d know the deal was real. And thanks for the Root Beer note, I do like caffeine in my soft drinks as I don’t drink coffee, so good to know.

A lot of mine is groups I’ve donated too wanting more money…I’m tempted to write them and say ‘I donate a good sum once a year and that’s that…don’t waste your time and mine.’ but I doubt it would do any good..

Glad you did, scout’s honor i never saw it until you pointed it out.

JtC, presumably person and pup were OK, but that gave me a good belly laugh for the evening, so thank you for that.

red, butter pecan (with real pecans of course) is my weakness, but Northern Indiana is a bit far for that. Will stick with the local spot (Handel’s Ice Cream).

And it’s 9:30pm now, so do the Kroger list and head off to bed. Take care all.

Dog: I’m with my people on wood. Now I’m flying with my people. Now I’m a helicopter. It must be Tuesday.

As much as I would love to reply to everyone, it’s late and Hubs and I have been having SERIOUS talks. He’s just realized that if I die, he is kinda screwed because he will only get half my pension and a little SS boost. We had this discussion back when I retired, we both spent time with my money guy before Hubs made the choice to get the larger payout without realizing what this would do if I die first.

This is seriously irritating, he was much more with it back when we made these choices and I’m not willing or able to change things now after ten years. It’s not like he’s going to be out on the street a week after I get hit by a beer truck, he will just have to cut back on expensive toys.

Now that he’s taking care of a lawn, he thought he didn’t like how the cut grass turns brown, so he bought a bag thing for his mower. (Nobody else bags their grass) He used it today and dumped all of the cut grass into our big trash can so now it is almost full. We are only allowed the one bin and it won’t be dumped again until Tuesday.

In better news, I’ve made arrangements to renew my MMJ card. That’s what keeps him alive.

I won’t know for sure until 48 hours before , but the weekend of the 15th. Once dispatched, I’ll make reservations for a room in Little Rock and the clock will tick.

I need to organize a vacation. I have never had paid days off before, working for myself for 20 years…no days off, prior to that I worked for a university on a just for the school year basis, paid over the full year, for a film company, so no time off there. My boss was making noises about us needing to use up our PTO before Dec. I think I may go visit my folks back in Maine sometime in Sept.

I suppose it’s a good problem to have.

Lunchtime

My friend was looking better today. He was able to come in a wheelchair and sit and watch the project for a while.

All three of the girls were there. More progress.

Ok, time to go back.

An outstanding problem to have.

LMAO

Morning, mumpers! It’s currently 16c/61f with a predicted high of 22c/71f and partly cloudy. Weather app says “Mother Nature is a fucking dork. The fucking end.” Really? I don’t think so…

I’m sure it will change, she’s probably feeling a bit overwhelmed with everything to start with. Sounds like your meeting went well too. After a long flight and all that excitement, she must have been ready for her bed  I hope Mr Rilch gave her the option to decline the slaughterhouse visit, I think it would have been a bit too much for me on day 1!

Sounds like you’re really enjoying this, guess you’ve found your place!

Way too hot for me too, I’m a delicate little flower  I am sure Ariel appreciated the bath after going out in that heat.

JtC I hope person and pupper were ok, but it did make me laugh!

I had a quiet evening yesterday, all I needed to do was collect ‘im indoors from the station. The cats were happy to see me come home because that meant it was time for food, so they got their dinner and I did my evening chores before I had mine. I was even in bed relatively early and had a fairly decent night. Back on campus today and looking forward to the end of the day. I’ve got a bunch of module choice forms to construct for our incoming year 1 students. They need to be ready by next week because their exam results come out next Thursday and then we have to start getting our numbers together and mail out the form links for them. But of course, we might also be on strike that day too!

Rilchiam, it’s been about 9 or 10 months that I’ve been losing weight. I am using a generic version of Zepbound. It’s the only one that has worked well. I’ve tried other GLP-1 drugs and they had a wide range of unfortunate side effects.

Also, I hope that Izzy enjoys herself in her new home away from home. It sounds like you’ve done a great job getting ready for her needs.

FCM, you just reminded me of the daily mail saga here. We have a security system here and when you open the door to get the mail it says “Main Door.” Every time that MusicMan gets the mail he says, “Hello, Main!” And, if you get the mail instead of letting him do it, he gets a little pouty.

Doggio is my new BFF! I LOVE Hershey’s Dark Chocolate!!! However, I did find the other day that there’s a limit to the level of dark that I can handle. I got an 80-something percent dark chocolate bar from Aldi’s the other day and it was vile. I don’t know how anyone could eat something like that. Yuck.

Today is the last day of training. Monday is officially the first day of school. However, the students don’t all start on the same day. AKA, probably won’t have any students for me on Monday. I am happy to say that my supervisor is extremely reasonable. There were several things with deadlines for today that she has extended because we just haven’t had time. That made me feel so much better.

Otherwise, MusicMan is off today due to a doctor’s appointment. It will be interesting to see what he does while I’m working. He said that he’s waiting for a to-do list for me, but that’s not something that I’ve ever given him. Short of something trivial like please carry your laundry up the stairs. We were supposed to go to his company picnic this weekend, but he forgot to sign up and get tickets darn the luck.

Ok, off to forage for breakfast. Happy Friday!

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 70 Amurrkin out and cloudy with a predicted high of 84 and cloudy. Blah weather. The plan of the day is to have lunch at the really good Asia [s]hog trough[/s] Buffet. The place is called Asia Buffet. I could also take care of candle duty, but there’s a couple of other minor things I need to do over to the church house, so I think I shall go early tomorrow mornin’ when I can do stuff whilst no one else is around. RDOS inactivities will make up the rest of the day it bein’ a blah day and also our wont.

Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, onward into the day! Rah.

Happy Firday Y’all!

Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Last weekday of vacation. It’s 68 degrees Ferret Height(20 Centipedes). The rain has ceased, so I may go out today.

Maybe get another big, dark bin and call it the compost bin - let him dump grass in that? Then, I dunno, use it for mulch? I truly don’t understand why some people* obsess over their lawns. FCD hates yard work with a white-hot hate, but he wants a lawn that looks like a putting green. It’s all about how it looks, but he only looks once in a while and that’s when he starts talking about seed or sod or a lawn service or whatever. I figure if it’s green and not thorny, it’s good. And the clippings decompose back in to the ground to feed it.

*Not to be sexist or anything but I’ve never heard of or seen any women get that riled up over their lawn…

Or you could spread it out over some long weekends? I always found that was a good way to burn up time off without being away for bigger clumps of time, risking falling behind on some things. Tho what you do is different from stuff that requires lots of paperwork and reports, I assume.

Pick a room - think of all the things you want/need done in that room. The list will write itself. Maybe, maybe not. Just a thought.

I’m pretty sure I’ve gotten FCD’s whatever-caused-his-cough. Fortunately, I don’t have all the chest congestion; just the cough and a bit of a sore throat. Plus my cough isn’t nearly as, shall we say violent, as his. Mostly it’s just annoying. With luck, the annoyance will pass quickly.

It’s Laundry Day and all this talk of sheets has guilted me into changing ours. Well, that and when Daughter made our bed before we got home (she’d slept here a few nights while we were gone) she didn’t use the sheets I’d asked her to use.

We have 3 different kinds of sheets - flannel, t-shirt, and smooth, cool cotton. I wanted her to use the cotton, but she used the t-shirt. It’s too warm for that kind - those are for transition from summer to winter or vice-versa. Anyway, I’ll put the proper ones on today.

I may also run to Food Lion - Diet Coke is on sale, plus FCD needs ‘nanners. Apart from that, no plans. I was going to mow, but I think I’ll leave that for tomorrow since it rained a bit last night. Mowing wet grass makes for a messy mow.

Tomorrow also would have been my folks’ 73rd anniversary. I’m not sure how to address it with my mom. Dad died a few months after their 50th, so saying Happy Anniversary isn’t appropriate. Usually I just post one of their wedding photos on FB. If we lived closer, I’d be inclined to take her out to dinner - but not for a 2 anna half drive each way. Must think…

Anyway, I’m up and more or less functional, so onward!

Happy Firday!!

Just finished class. This girl is in 9th grade and I’ve tutored her since first grade. We were working on comparing and contrasting and got to how was she different from her best friend. She started off by saying she was taller, and while she was thinking about it, I added the following text:

She laughed and took a picture of it to send to her friend.

I was tired after working on my friend’s remoding project all day. He was doing a little better today and was able to be taken by wheelchair from the house to the store. The nurse came today and they were meeting to discuss the situation. I’ll find out next week how he’s doing.

Hope you get past it soon.

@Paintcharge , I remember the first time I had a paid day off! It was like magic.

I moved to Asia before I had my own lawn so I’ve avoided that thing. I don’t see moving back to the States, but if I do then I’m not going to have a lawn.

Speaking of sheets, mine are starting to talk back, so it’s time to wash them, if they need it or not.

Good morning, everyone.

It’s 54°F and sunny. It’ll be sunny to partly cloudy for the day, with an expected high temperature of around 80°F.

I don’t obsess over my lawn, but I do like a spot of green; it makes things seem cooler on hot days. My lawn is far from perfect. The front needs a serious thatch and aeration job, with some overseeding. It’s full of moss. It’s been years since that was done, and I plan to do that closer to fall so we can overseed and the lawn will grow in over the winter. The pups destroyed the backyard, so their portion is mostly dirt with patches of grass. I mourn the loss of that beautiful green, but, it’ll eventually grow back as the pups calm down. The dogfree zone has a tiny patch of lawn, which I’ve thatched, and it’s starting to fill in. Is my lawn perfect? Hell no.

JtC, I laughed at the video, but I, too, assume the pup was alright. It was almost graceful the way the little guy just hovered for a moment.

Sensei, I’m glad your friend was feeling up to a little more.

VanGo, yes, having paid vacation is a good problem to have.

Sticky, I used to like the Hershey’s Dark if I couldn’t get a hold of some good dark chocolate, even as a kid. About 80% dark, it can be bitter and chalky, but some brands are not nearly as bitter. You have to try them out. I wish I could recommend a brand, but I’ve tried so many that none really stick. I like dark chocolate because a couple of squares is all you need or want, and I like the depth of the flavor.

I went to Costco yesterday. Ostensibly, I went there to pick up light bulbs. I came home with way more than that. But, I have to take one set of “bulbs” back. I thought I was buying the bulbs for our can lights, but in fact, it was the whole setup, and I don’t need that.

I also bought some fruit, soda, a cinnamon loaf, frozen veggies, and a couple of other items. I was going to pick up a couple of prime rib-eye steaks, but they didn’t have any prime cuts of meat there yesterday. No big deal, money saved.

I came home, put away everything, and then excelled at being an RDOS. Seriously, I earned an A++.

Today, it’s back to watering the posies and some other minor chores. I should probably run the rollsuck, too.

You all take care, and FCM, I hope your cough doesn’t become worse.
