(Old) A New Hope in the MMP

Happy Monday! I’ve been contending with various issues, family-wise and health-wise. The PA doubled the dose of Celebrex since the lower dose wasn’t working, and things got ugly. It took several days off it to get my tummy back to normal, but now, of course, my bacon is achin’. Luckily, I go back to see the PA tomorrow, so hopefully he’ll figure out something then.

Today I’m going to walk downtown (back pain be damned) and take a bus to Costco. I hope. I couldn’t do it when I was legally blind because of a scary intersection, but I hope to do so this afternoon. I have a $40 cash-back bonus I want to use. I’ll stock up on artificial tears, since I got through them like, uh, water. They’re easy to transport, too.

I’ll wait to leave until my sister-in-law calls me back. I’m trying to calm her before we all descend on their house in 10 days. I know it’s a fruitless task, but I have to try. She’s always a wreck, but this time it’s worse. For various reasons, NOT going to their house is not an option.

Why is life like a Monopoly version where everything is in quadratic equations, including the dice?

flyboy, sorry about your local situation following the murder of the guy outside the Seattle church. Would your wife be interested in going to a different church, or is she pretty bonded to the current one?

pilot, I’ll have to go back and read the old MMP, but I hope things smooth out for you pronto. A just-curious question: would the new digs be close to where she lives now or in between where you are now and where she is now or maybe ini the Outer Hebrides? I like the idea of some dry runs before committing to moving in together.

Taters, aren’t ladybugs supposed to eat aphids? Or would that result in an old-lady-who-swallowed-a-fly situation?

Mice must read obituaries like Manhattanites hunting for apartments.

She had a hard enough time finding this one.

Personally, if we have to go to church, I’d become an Episcopalian. They seem to be the most liberal denomination.

The United Church of Christ is also pretty liberal, FWIW.

Well, f*&k. My left foot has started being uncooperative in new and exciting ways. I was even a good girl and wore my shoes with brace all day. I am struggling to walk with a cane at times. Tomorrow I have to drive to Columbus for work so MusicMan loaded the rollator in the car for me just in case. I let my boss know what was going on.

Blah.

It’s not Christian enough for her. When I say she’s devout, I mean she reads her Bible and takes notes for at least an hour a day.

Today I rode Ariel for the first time by myself (without my instructor) in a year. The fall last year (NOT off my horse) really shattered my confidence. I’ve spent the last year physically and mentally rehabilitating. I did have someone hold her while I mounted and dismounted. The next part of rehab is doing that by myself.

Friend A has a PET scan tomorrow to determine if her lymphoma has spread to her reproductive system. Friend B has a CT scan tomorrow to check her liver since she has leukemia. Prayers and/or good thoughts would be welcome for them.

Howdy Y’all! Been a :musical_notes: rainy day in Jawja :musical_notes: and will be :musical_notes: a rainy night in Jawja :musical_notes: as well. We are currently under a flash flood warnin’ until nine-fifteen tonight. I hear thunder rumbles all around, but can’t really tell how close since I have taken my aids out. I have heard enough of the world for one day. We had a day of high RDOS inactivities. Nappage and day drinkin’ pair well with a rainy day. Leftovers were consumed as well.

Pilot hope gf and you can come to a suitable arrangement. Dealin’ with agin’ parents is tough and can go on for quite a while. Seems like both of you are wantin’ things to work out and that is a positive thing.

Flyboy the Episcopal church is mostly moderate. You can find both liberal and conservative churches, but for the most part it’s very find a middle ground. Separation of church and state is very important for the church. The church is pretty acceptin’ of everyone.

I think members of the UCC would probably argue with the “not Christian enough” designation. I can only guess how hard it would be to find a hardcore fundamentalist church that isn’t MAGA-inclined. I wish both of you the best of luck.

WetOne, a big CONGRATULATIONS on overcoming your obstacles and riding Ariel again. I’m impressed! And I have commenced praying for your friends.

Sticky, I don’t know what’s going on with that foot of yours, but I hope it’s temporary.

So in approximately 48 hours, we will be meeting Izzy in person for the first time.

Her room is ready. Mr. Rilch scrubbed the floor twice, and I Liquid Gold-ed it three times, and this was after I cleaned the windows, inside and out. Did the best I could for the furniture, made up the bed with new sheets (and steamed out the creases), stocked the closet with hangers, and set up the new alarm clock.

One thing I’m a bit hung up on. The facilitator offhandedly mentioned that people where Izzy is from are a lot more formal in their attire; they don’t go to the market or post office wearing shorts, for instance. For the meeting at the airport, I think I’ll wear my nicest jeans (not shorts) and a peasant blouse. If I wore a skirt, I’d have to carry a purse, and I daresay my hands will be full enough. And Mr. Rilch is likewise going to wear long pants, not shorts, and a new flannel. That’s us: jes’ country folk.

Good going!

You lucked out. IME, using the paper products at Aldi are akin to blowing your nose or wiping your nether regions with 24 grit sandpaper.

It sounds like you’re in different places in life. I can sympathize, it’s happened to me too, but on the other side of the coin than you.

Small terriers are good for that too.

I can’t get it in Texas with Tenessee tags, which I’ll have until June. My PCP wasn’t in today (I called ahead), so I’m headed in tomorrow. Besides, it isn’t the actual tag, it’s the hanging placard. When I get tagged in Texas, I’ll likely get my car tagged that way and a placard for when I’m with someone else.

I dunno. They tend to be pretty wrinkled when they’re fished out of the hamper too.

The Unitarians may well be a good fit as well. ETA: it definitely wouldn’t be Christian enough if UCC isn’t.

Got started on the kitchen today. Got the last of the paperirk done with the lease (they’d forgotten the pet addendum, so we got that done and now Nelson is an official resident). I’m sooooooo ready to get this over with.

Given that I’ll have had the better part of two months to get packed (and this has been needed, given my physical limitations), it seems like a neverending task. What really makes it slow is that for the past couple of weeks, I’ve been able to do nothing in the studio. Oh, well, a little of online genealogy is getting done.

wet one Best of thoughts to your friends. I’ve said it before and will say it again–Fuck cancer. And great to hear you’re back in the saddle!

I went on a work drive to pick up some pieces we had powder coated for the outdoor science park. Since my dear departed Tacoma is no longer with us I had to use the care share version. Ooof, that thing is not well, couldn’t maintain 55 going up a hill. But, the pieces are back and will be installed over the next couple of days. I am hoping to build some real stuff, as in exhibits that can go on the floor, rather than prototypes (damn that’s a difficult word to type) in the near future. I should have the materials here to do that soon.

flyboy I grew up UU. Maybe that could be a place to look? I’m not religious in the slightest, but I can see how some get comfort from it.

Rilch I hope all goes well with meeting Izzy.

I was imprecise. I don’t have a gimp license plate and do not want one. I have the hanging tag that I put on my mirror when I have to use a gimp spot.

Maybe it was the Unitarians that she rejected. That sounds like it might be it.

She’s not ‘hard core’. It’s hard to explain… especially for a heathen like myself.

Any church in Bellingham or Lynden that might work?

Sorry :frowning:

Whatever you wear to pick her up, she’s gonna have some culture shock anyway.

I’ve never done this, I swear!

I went to Yardhouse for a tuna sandwich and a couple of pilsners, and did my Aldi run. I napped. Spot napped with me. I farted. Spot napped in the living room after that. Now I’m Youtubing, and having an Old Fashioned. Dinner tonight is fires and a bacon cheeseburger with smoked Gouda. Spot continues to nap on the living room couch.

Either the real Oopsie has been replaced by a pod person, or you’ve been kidnapped, and are signalling for help. Blink twice if you’re in still in the DC area.

Last night Spot ignored the millipede crawling around his feet because he was begging for an ice cube to chase.

Well welcome, and haunt us with dolphin tales any time you want.

< prayers sent >

Damn, I’m sorry.

Nah shredded cheese is for the Bloody Mary. A Wisconsin Old Fashioned is brandy(usually Korbel), sugar, Angostora bitters, muddled orange and cherry, with crushed ice. And usually topped with 7-Up(sweet), grapefruit soda(sour) 50/50 seltzer and lemon-lime soda(press), or nothing(no wash)

Yay for you, and the horse you rode in on!

Which is somewhat ironic considering the history.

{{{{Sticky}}}}

Me either! :stuck_out_tongue:

Hurray for peaches, I love stone fruit and peaches are right up there on the list.

I hope every one of them is great.

Do you have any parm (real parm, not the shake stuff)? Grate piles of that onto a cookie sheet (use parchment paper if you have it, its fine if you don’t) and bake at 400 until it is starting to turn brown. It turns into great crunchy/salty snacks.

I never really used the SNOOZE button for extra sleep cause the cats all learn very quickly that the alarm clock meant breakfast time and cats don’t have SNOOZE buttons. I just liked being able to shut my clock off while thinking “you aren’t the boss of me anymore” and trying to go back to sleep. Happily, Hubs retired first and he got up before me so the cats followed him to the kitchen.

I’m so sorry. It sucks when we start losing our adult relatives because when one of them starts failing, it seems as though most of them do in short order.

I try to not think about it anymore. I’ve lived longer than Dad and his brothers. Mom is still with us but her sisters aren’t. I’ve lost more friends than are remaining.

Its a good thing I don’t like people or I’d worry about getting lonesome in my old age.

Do you have time to get a bunch of self-watering bottles? We had (haven’t seen them since the move, must replace them) a mess of nozzles I could screw onto large soda bottles to turn them into self watering. This sort of thing.

Had it not made the move, I wouldn’t have replaced it. Table linens and pillowcases are the only things I use it for, so I didn’t bother to replace the ironing board that didn’t make this move. (I did have a twinge over it though. I bought it when I was in the USAF, it went to Okinawa, CA, HI and AZ with me.)

Please do not get run over.

I get my artificial tears free from my medicare plan, I wonder if yours also has such a perk?

We (I) bought ladybugs once. They all flew away as soon as I opened the box.

That just really bites. You do NOT want to have to miss work this soon after being hired. I hope it resolves before you have to drive, getting in and out of your car is tricky when one leg refuses to do its job.

Go you! I’m glad you have your confidence back, I’ll bet Ariel loved having her human in the saddle again.

Cancer sucks. Many good thoughts going their way.

I feel this so much!

No rain for us today :frowning: I’ll be giving everything a good watering tomorrow if tonight’s storm passes us by.

It’s going to be great and you are going to have a wonderful time! I would think that Italy is also very humid, so at least she won’t melt into a puddle when she steps off the plane.

I’m so very happy that you sound so happy with your job. I was a little worried about the mental transition between being your own boss and working for someone else, but that seems to have been a silly worry. I’m glad I didn’t say anything

It works the other way with GG. He farts and we both sleep on the porch.

So I did a lot of adulting today and am now going to spend a couple of hours smoking and stitching.

Hubs tried to be nice and ordered a BIG container of powdered gatoraid, but I had already stopped drinking the bottled stuff because I’ve found tablets that have everything. (I don’t really like flavored drinks that much unless ETOH is involved.)

Despite not even unpacking the box, it cannot be returned. Last year I would have put it in the pantry to forget about, but I’ve vowed to stop doing that so I will offer it to Tara when she’s over Wednesday.

I don’t know what she likes to drink. I’ve seen her drinking coke (don’t know if it is diet or not) and water, she’s mentioned drinking Kool-aid, but she’s kinda “formal” with me. She won’t bring her shoes in the house because it isn’t proper, when I asked her what I could stock for her to drink while she was cleaning, she looked and acted very shocked that I would consider spending money catering to her preferences.

She’ll calm down in time, we are always nice and do appreciate the people who clean our toilets.

In other news, Hubs has decided that we should bring crinkle chocolate cookies to the family reunion. I reminded him that there were so many desserts last time that only a few people ate my last offering. He said that someone must have taken it home and I reminded him that WE did and that he ate it all. He nodded and said “well, if I’m going to eat all of these leftovers, I get to pick what they are.” Makes sense to me plus cookies are so much easier to carry.

Why would anyone do that? Just hang them on a chair back or door handle like everyone else!

If Tara doesn’t want it, perhaps consider dropping it off to the nearly firehouse. They could use it to replenish themselves after doing an ambulance run or a fire call or even after a training session. Hopefully it would show them their community appreciates them whether they’re volunteers or paid.

If not a firehouse I bet the nearest high school with a cross country team would make good use of it.
