Sounds delicious!
Glad you liked it.
Manhattans are nice, and I usually get them before a Rob Roy; but the scotch really does make it more interesting. I really should buy some scotch.

Mrs. L.A. made Hebrew National hot dogs for dinner tonight. Hebrew National always reminds me of this commercial.
Brazilian sugarcane moonshine
Cachaça?
(I was born in Brazil. Moved to the U.S. when I was just a wee bebeh, but I guess something stuck in my veins. A proper caipirinha is DELISHUSH.)
Oh, and I can’t compete with the sunrise pics (mostly b.c. we have very different schedules) but here’s last night’s moody night skies:
Those are trees playing “Bob Ross” at the edges.
Doesn’t it look like marble?
Morning, mumpers! It’s currently 18c/64f with a predicted high of 22c/71f and partly cloudy. Weather app says “It’s fucking mint outside, which is great, unless you’re a fucking cat. Cats hate that fucking shit.”
I decided to emulate JtC and Shoe and floozy it up a bit
And why not? I love the style of the top and it is definitely doing the job!
Bright Tree hope you and Ollie had a fabulous time with your friends.
VanGo there’s something very therapeutic about dumping old documents. I love having a good clear-out at work, it’s just a shame that we never get enough confidential waste bins to do the entire job.
nellie good to see you back again, I’m sorry to hear about Max’s person. You’re a Good Person doing the dog-walking for so little and I am sure Max appreciates getting the exercise and spending time with you. It’s sad to hear about his person though
Good news that your daughter is getting interviews, I hope she finds something soon!
Cat Glove sorry to hear you had such a restless night but it sounds like you made good use of your awake time instead.
red keeping everything crossed for a successful outcome for you.
Taters I’m glad you finally got your pedicure. I’ve never had one, keep thinking it would be a good idea but still haven’t got round to it.
Yesterday was a blissfully quiet day at irk although it got a bit boring later on. I was doing a job I’d saved for such a day, checking and updating our assessment component structure in the new system for our 2026-27 assessment. I did the year 1 stuff without any problems but the year 2 ones returned an error message that made no sense. Could I find anyone to ask? No, obviously not, because in all the training stuff we’ve been given, there isn’t an actual “contact us” email for queries, despite the deluge of messaging we’ve had about their Early Life Support system for us. So I spent the better part of 2hrs faffing about reorganising some exam paper storage. Fortunately it’s not really wasted time as we have to keep those papers for a year after the last student graduates so I was batching them up with dates for disposal.
The Travel Gods were good to me up to the point where I got to my home station and then they decided to pull a bus from the timetable. It wasn’t a massive delay, but it annoyed me ![]()
Today I have a mixed bag of things to do, I need to get more cat litter and possibly another 2-part automated feeder, do a couple of errands in town, get some petrol, and collect the stuff from one of the supermarket donation bins (then take it to Little Paws HQ). Someone else may have collected the donation stuff, but he hasn’t replied to let me know yet. 'im indoors wants to go to the pub later, but I’m not sure how long we will be out of the house so that’s still a bit up in the air.
Until then, there’s tea to drink and stuff to read.
Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 75 Amurrkin out and cloudy with a predicted high of 87 and cloudy with rain/tstorms/apocalypse predicted this afternoon and continuin’ for the next three days. We shall see. I had planned to accomplish mowage this mornin’, but that ain’t happenin’ as it appears to have rained again at some point durin’ the night. It is wet and steamy outside. I do have things to keep me occupied, however. Tomorrow is first Sunday brunch and I shall bake a small spiral ham, make a cabbage casserole, and a chawklit cake with chawklit pee-kahn icin’ to take. The ham is bone in so there will be a nice ham bone for future purposes which is always a bonus. There will be the usual RDOS sloth as well. Sup will be leftovers, so that’ll be easy.
BrightTree I say take it real easy today. My guess is you will feel sore today as that seems like it was quite the fall! Glad Ollie and you had a nice visit with your friends, fall aside.
Nellie your offer to walk Max for free is generous. You are truly good people!
Taters yay for the pedicure finally!
red how brave of Nelson to protect you from the teevee chikins!
CupCakes I have no idea what shows OYKW watches. They all run together to me. Then again, I have a thing for the medical shows and I am sure they all seem like the same to him. I do love me some soverign citizen youtube videos, however. They are hilarious!
Mollie you floozy up nicely! Loved the video of Chloé. She seemed to be havin’ such a good time!
MOOOOOOM good for you for helpin’ BIL with his phone. A spare charger is never a bad thing. Hope RoxStar and The Tobester enjoyed the Maul.
Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then I suppose I should get busy makin’ foodstuffs. My stove has two ovens as I am sure is true for at least some of you. The top oven is perfect for casseroles, so I can bake the ham in the bigger bottom oven and bake a casserole, cake, pie etc. in the top one. This makes me happy.
Happy Sattidy Y’all!
Mornin’.
August already?? It was January 5 minutes ago…
Got woken up by some gulls having a very loud conversation outside my window at 5am, which is still last night by my standards, took me ages to get back to sleep and I didn’t wake up again until just before 10… Glad I didn’t have any plans for the morning anyway!
Not sure what to do today, the garden is cryin’ out for weeding, and it is due to rain for half the week, so I probably should, but I would also like to go out and do something more interestin’. I don’t actually have any more interestin’ ideas though.
We had lunch with Patricia Bremmer Wednesday. She sat in front of me in Geometry class in high school 55 years ago. We had reconnected via our high school alumni facebook page a few years ago but this was the first face to face meeting. We had a great visit and she sent me home with a couple of her books to review for her.
As opposed to any other time in human history?
I meant to suggest “teen gangs” but I don’t know for certain that they are gangs as opposed to a bunch of bored kids getting up to more than the usual mischief. Whatever the case, I understand shoppers are staying away in droves.
Sovereign Citizen YouTubes are hysterical.
They are an, um, interesting bunch… FCD watches the video and I hear the audio. The court appearances are especially entertaining.
I was born in Brazil.
I thought you were born in Poland…
there’s something very therapeutic about dumping old documents.
I need to do some of that therapy - I’m pretty sure I’ll never need 20-y/o tax returns. Or the closing documents from when we bought this house. Thankfully, much of what I used to get on paper now comes electronically. I surely don’t need to save insurance summaries of my dental visits.
Today is starting at 67 Ferrets, heading to upper 80s. Much rain promised for the upcoming week. More weeding is on the agenda, and FCD will have some painting for me - the drawers and cabinet body for the galley. Tho that may not happen till tomorrow. We’ll see.
Daughter took Tobias to the Akron Zoo yesterday while Roxy hung with BFF in her apartment. The pics of the zoo outing are really nice - I think the lad had a good time.
I had a bad night - couldn’t fall asleep, then the itching started. I finally took some generic benedryl and dropped of - sleeping till 7:30!!! That’s really sleeping in for me. At least the itching finally stopped.
And so the beginning of the 8th month, er, begins. Happy Saturday!!
67F this morning and a bit hazy. We had a spectacular sunset last night after the rain moved on. Supposed to be a decent week weather-wise.
This morning’s repast will be breakfast burritos made with hatch peppers, and a blueberry/nectarine/yogurt fruit bowl.
Good morning, everyone! It’s thundering and raining right now, so Mrs Magill and I are hanging in the living room while the laundry starts up. After three weeks of just doing mine[1], three people’s seem like a lot of clothes.
This morning’s agenda consists of voting, going to the bank, and getting breakfast while trying to ignore the piles of dirty clothes outside the laundry room.
There are three movies out that we want to see: Supergirl, The Odyssey, and Spider-Man. Also, a new nail spa opened across the way, and they’re offering deep discounts for their grand opening. Mrs Magill has been literally on her feet the whole week and would probably love a foot massage.
My Dads group is getting together tonight. I’ve gotten a new game from Kickstarter, Hit the Silk, which I’ll bring. I’m going to miss this group dynamic in a year.
The only unpleasantness was when I was climbing the stairs
I think you’re underselling it with “unpleasantness.” Please take it easy today.
Glad you liked it.
Manhattans are nice, and I usually get them before a Rob Roy; but the scotch really does make it more interesting. I really should buy some scotch.
I was surprised by how sweet it was. Mrs Magill had picked up a big bottle of Kirkland scotch, which is not exactly for savoring, but is perfect for cocktails.
Oh, and I can’t compete with the sunrise pics (mostly b.c. we have very different schedules) but here’s last night’s moody night skies:
Nice and spooky! Love it!
And why not? I love the style of the top and it is definitely doing the job!
Mollie you floozy up nicely! Loved the video of Chloé. She seemed to be havin’ such a good time!
You are both very kind.
Chloé loves playing The Game. She uses a combination if smell, sight, and memory to find the treats. We also figured out she can count up to at least three. Not too shabby for someone who considers the rabbit’s litter box as haute cuisine.
Spike has beendoinghis own separately, so it doesn’t get mixed with Squeaky’s ↩︎
Good morning.
It’s 62F with some very high clouds, but it’s mostly clear. The forecast calls for AM clouds and PM sun, with a daytime high of 75F. We reached 85 yesterday, so I’m pleased about the cool down. Next week temps start climbing up into the 90s, so I’ll gladly take this little respite.
Bright Tree, oh my goodness. Definitely take it easy today, lady. That is quite the fall! I’m glad the rest of your day was pleasant.
Red, I hope everything comes out well.
Ah, file management. I loved a good purge at the office. I purged a lot of files here at home too, but still run across my original SF-50s from the 80s from time to time. I have them all electronically, but for some reason, I keep hanging on to some of my earliest civil service paperwork. I think part of it is rooted in the big fire they had in St Louis(?) when all those veteran records were lost forever.
Boo Fae, most of the reason I get a pedicure is for the sheer relaxation. I go to a place that has massaging chairs, and love the lower leg and foot massage that is part of the pedicure. I don’t even look at my phone; I just relax. Also, they’re pretty good at getting any ingrown nails at the corner without pain.
And I think JtC called it. It’s likely I’ll need laser surgery for one of my eyes next month. It seems there is some cloudiness behind the new lens in my right eye. It’s not really scheduled yet; the appointment should drop into my records a week out from my next scheduled follow-up on 20 August. It’s not the end of the world, but it’s a little annoying. I just wanted this crap to be done with. I guess it’s common in “younger” cataract surgery appointments for this to happen. I laughed when the doc said that, but she insisted 62 is young for cataract surgery. I dunno about that, but whatever. Also, I need to get myself some artificial tears and use them often because my eyes are dry. Who knew?
My son will be picking Zeus up late tomorrow afternoon or early evening. The wedding he’s attending is quite the shindig. Last night was some kind of something, today is the wedding, and tomorrow is a brunch.
I’d kind of like to get an early start to the day and run out to the big sale at the plant nursery, plus pick up my artificial tears, but I’m not sure I’ll be able to do that.
I also need to talk to my husband about his friend, D. D likes to call at 5:00 a.m. He does it almost every day. Texts come in at around 3:00 a.m. Unless someone is dying or catastrophically injured, that’s just not cool. My husband doesn’t keep his phone on silent, so the text notifications and calls wake me after I’ve just fallen asleep.
Okay, I need to give Zeus and Buster some play time. You all take care of yourselves, please.
Good morning. I got up late and discovered I hadn’t set up coffee last night. I dumped out yesterday’s grounds, rinsed out the coffee basket, measured out new grounds and water, pushed the right buttons (I hope,) and came in here to type, “Good morning” to you. Mrs. Nott just brought me a mug of the elixir of life, so I guess I set it up right.
It’s mosquito season, the radio reminds me. The story was about a firm that breeds genetically modified skeeters to go forth to mate with non-GMO skeeters, but the GMO eggs… Aw, rats, I forgot the punch line, but it results in fewer disease-carrying bugs.

You are a kinder person than me. I wouldn’t “talk” I’d either figure out how to silence it m’damn self, or chuck it in the … well, toilet would cause plumbing issues, so it would go outside. Possibly straight into the trash bin. Or simply set outside in the rain.
Oh, noes, a raccoon stole it. Oops. ![]()
(Unless he has an emergency on-call job, not silencing his phone at night is Beyond Rude, and careening straight into Justifiable Homicide territory.)
Morning all. Rain started just about 7:30am when I got up, and is giving the ground a good soaking. More storms are possible this afternoon, so indoors is where I plan to be most of the time. Still warm, 77F heading to 87F later, so wet and humid…oh joy. Have one last load in the washer, towels and some other bits and pieces, so once that is done I will have emptied all my baskets, so I can be about filling them up again.
Just paid my last bill for the July vacation, turns out part of the Louisville, KY interstate is a toll road and they got a lovely picture of my license plate, so $5.57 has been dispatched. Which reminds me, it is the first of the month so I need to check my accounts and see how they are doing.
And now to see how everyone else is doing…
Flyboy, thanks for the old commercial memory–don’t think I’ve ever had a Hebrew hot dog though.
Shoe, perfectly appropriate word for the picture…moody. But lovely nonetheless.
August already?? It was January 5 minutes ago…
Know what you mean, time seems to move faster as we age…
Hippie, nice to have a published author as an acquaintance. Enjoy the books.
FCM, happy weeding. And the Akron Zoo was a pretty small place way back when I lived there, hope it has gotten better with time.
Mollie, that’s a thought, maybe I need to go see a movie…and buy a big popcorn…
Taters, hope the lasers get the eye problem settled for good. And 3am/5am is not a proper time for calling, unless one is in New Zealand or something…
And sounds like the washing machine is in it’s final spin, so best get that dealt with and then plumb the mysteries of high finance. Have a great weekend all.
Flyboy, thanks for the old commercial memory–don’t think I’ve ever had a Hebrew hot dog though.
I grew up on Oscar Mayer. Sometimes Farmer John, but I didn’t like those. Later, I ate Ball Park Franks. Nowadays, Hebrew Nationals – either the regular-sized ones like we had last night, or the quarter-pounders – are my go-to choice. (I also get all-beef hot dogs from Costco; ‘Giganto Dogs’, as I call them; ones from Chef’s Store, or Applegate uncured hot dogs from Trader Joe’s.) I’ve never had a Nathan’s. (Are they a Right Coast thing?) But you can’t go wrong with Hebrew National.
The wedding he’s attending is quite the shindig.
Every time I hear about wedding events like this, I’m sooooo glad we just eloped! But neither of us like a big to-do about anything, which is why our anniversaries, especially the “biggies”, pass unobserved. My mom doesn’t understand it…
not silencing his phone at night is Beyond Rude
Our phones spend the night in the other room, but we don’t turn them off. I fret about not being reached just-in-case, but don’t ask me just-in-case what. Even when my dad died, we didin’t get a call till the next morning.
And the Akron Zoo was a pretty small place way back when I lived there, hope it has gotten better with time.
They have dinosaurs!!! (Check your FB messages!)
I put in a bit over an hour pulling weeds and didn’t even get half a bucket. Much of the time it wasn’t so much pulling as trying to dig out as much root as possible. Here’s what I did.
Once the sweat threatened to drip in my glasses, I decided I’d had enough - it was nearly 10:30 at that point and getting way too close to 80 Ferrets. So I’m showered and dressed and thinking about something for lunch. I also think I’ll gather household garbage and make a trash/recycling run.
(Unless he has an emergency on-call job, not silencing his phone at night is Beyond Rude, and careening straight into Justifiable Homicide territory.)
Exactly! When I worked odd hours, I set mine up on do not disturb mode with the exceptions of two numbers (Sis and Dad). Life was made much easier that way.
Just paid my last bill for the July vacation, turns out part of the Louisville, KY interstate is a toll road and they got a lovely picture of my license plate, so $5.57 has been dispatched.
The I65 bridge at Louisville is also toll with a lovely snap of your car / tag. I found out the hard way that trying to pay that one online is pretty FUBAR. I got to the point of writing $4 checks to them when I would go up to see Dad. You can, however, set your GPS for no tolls. In Louisville, it will take you across the river on US31.
I’ve never had a Nathan’s. (Are they a Right Coast thing?) But you can’t go wrong with Hebrew National.
I don’t know about a right coast thing, but Nathan’s are delish. HN are good too, but my preference is Nathan’s (ask baker about her late dachshund, Nathan).
Up, caffeinating, breakfasted, infused and fixing to do KP. The itchies hit again last night and are in full force right now. When I go to the doctor Monday, I’ll ask if it’s a side effect of the antibiotics or something else entirely. I have found that wipe downs with a baby wipe help, along with the benedryl (I have a feeling that there will be scattered naps today) and lidocaine cream. Oy!
Stay safe and healthy y’all!
The Spousal Unit had a banana earlier, so I assumed she didn’t want me to cook breakfast. I had a scrambled egg sandwich with a slice of cheese on it.
She was going to caulk the seams in the ceiling (fairly rough planks, painted over – this is an old house), but she said it’s too much trouble. She noted out of it. Now she’s cleaning the shiplap walls. She’ll go to the hardware store after a bit, for something.
I replaced the third brake light in the Prius. Two screws anna plug. It was a piece of piss. I left a positive review at Da Jungle.
I’ll get out the lawnmower at nine, and mow the front yard. Then help The Missus put sliders under the new furniture so that she can move them when she needs to, then a shower and a run to Costco.
