(Old) A new topic for Slackards in the MMP

Happy Doperversary, FCM! :shortcake:

And good morning, everyone else. At 10:54am it’s partly cloudy and 83°F here 13 miles west of the White House, with a heat index of 86 and a forecasted daily high of 88 (which will probably feel like 90+). I’d been hoping for another realtively cool morning, to sit on my deck and read – I’m now 4 New Yorker issues behind, plus a short story I printed out – but 'twill not be today. I’m glad it’s finally August, because it means September and autumn aren’t far behind! C’mon, fall! :fallen_leaf:

My mailbox is in a cluster at the end of my street, and I don’t get much snail mail (plus it holds a lot), so I’ve taken to only checking it on Fridays after work: yesterday’s haul included a check from my previous property manager, refunding the security deposits I’d paid in 2014! :tada: Not only am I glad to have the money back, but with that check – and its accompanying “final accounting” statement – I’m officially free of that house. The lease ended a month ago: he had until the middle of this month to return my deposits, but I’m glad he didn’t wait it out. One less thing I have to keep track of.

I have an extra ticket to a concert in September – I figured that one of my cousins would come down from PA to go with me (we’ve seen this band together before), but turns out he has tickets for the same tour the weekend before! – and yesterday I learned that a friend from high school who lives in Utah might actually come out here for it. I mentioned the show in response to a meme he posted and half-joking said “come to VA in September and go with me,” but then he asked for the date and said he’s been thinking about a trip back home anyway, and is going to talk with his wife and start looking into flights. That would be so awesome! I don’t have any local friends – or many other friends at all – who would be into this particular show[1], and I’ve been looking foward to this tour but I hate going to shows alone (I actually won’t), so I’ve been a little torn about what to do. I hope my HS friend can make that weekend work! :crossed_fingers:

I spent the morning catching up on personal administrivia (and typing this!), and when I’m done with this post I might go replace the toilet seat in the master bathroom. The new one has been in that room, in its box, for two weeks now; partly because it’s been really hot upstairs on the weekends and I haven’t wanted to deal with it. I think I finally feel like tackling it today. I just hafta grab some pliers first, for removing the current seat.

That’s my only other “to do” list item today: I plan to spend the rest of the afternoon sitting at my kitchen table building Lego. I started the 1966 Ford GT40 MKII last night: it’s only 793 pieces so it’s not out of the question that I could finish it today, but that’s fine because my next set – the Jaguar E-Type – is supposed to be delivered this afternoon. This morning I also ordered two sets that finally became available: The X-Files – with a small “Scully’s Lab” gift with purchase – and Hanging Golden Pothos.

It could be fun if you could go as Maus, but then halfway through step out and come back in as Mollie…and see if anyone recognizes you!

Yeah, yeah…I’ve heard it before, but my charm and sparkling personality always eventually bring people back.

Excellent news!

I know it’s not the same as a physical paper, but are there any online local news sources that cover your county?

Nuts do not belong in brownies/should never be the default!

My BMW requires[2] 93 octane, so I’m paying more than $5/gal. And VA is cheaper than MD: gas near work is almost $6/gal. Sigh.

OMG!! Please be on the lookout for any concussion/whiplash symptoms…and I hope you aren’t feeling too many ill effects today!

Me too. Heh.

It does! That’s a cool photo.

Ain’t the little things great sometimes?

Definitely! Sorry about that.

  1. Iron Maiden; I’ve seen them twice before, but this will likely be the last time ↩︎

  2. yes, I know, sometimes “requires” is optional; not in my car ↩︎

Well, it’s after 09:00. But it’s raining. I’ll not mow this morning.

Well, that didn’t last long. Max’s person called early yesterday afternoon to say she was exhausted, and could I walk him? I wasn’t surprised. Of course I walked him, though earlier than usual because I had a hair cut appointment.

Speaking of which, when I got there, the receptionist asked if she could get me water OR WINE! Say what now? I couldn’t resist, so I asked for white wine. I thought it’d be a little sample glass, but no, it was 10 ounces in a 12 ounce glass! I drank la third of it. My mom would have shaken her head at my wasting wine, but I had to walk home AND walk Sir Charles. Plus I hadn’t eaten since breakfast. Plus it wasn’t 5 o’clock yet.

Cat-lover friends, please hold good thoughts for my daughter’s cat. She’s lost fur (cat, not daughter) and has been unwell, and the vet suspects kidney and intestinal issues. She’s a beautiful cat with sapphire blue eyes and is such a sweetie! She’s also 14. My daughter has had such an incredibly rough year and just can’t handle another loss. The vet bill is huge, but she’s going to get her no-good husband to pay for it.

Oh, my word. I got just that far when Max’s person called and said he refused to go out last night and won’t go this morning. She thinks he’s waiting for me. I do not understand this obsession. Back later!

Hear hear!

Some gardenin’ has happened, a little fud shopping, but I’ve mostly heeded the call of the sofa today. The recent rain has made it possible to weed and dig, so I can actually get on with some of the stuff I had planned. I wish we could blow next week’s predicted rain down to the South of England though, I think we’d all be happier with that.

The usual Saturday chaos. I was getting slammed with work, and at 0630 Meth Squirrel Girls rolls in from finishing the up front work
MSG: “LOOK AT ALL THIS MESS!”
My face:
My Inner Voice: “OH NO YOU DIDN’T!
Anyways, we eventually got everything down. Plenty of damages and retapes. Also some guy ordered 500lbs. of assorted Rogue Weight lifting equipment, and put it on future till Monday(Because he wants to get ripped, but not this weekend).
Me, the loader who’s gonna have to drag that into a package car, and the driver who has to drag it to his doorstep:

But I’m home and on vacation. I response, Spot has gone Cuckoo For Cocoa Puffs. But I’ve had my bacon, eggs, and gin&tonic, and the laundry is in the washer, so naptime.

Let The Wild Rumpus begin!

Yep.

It was.

They might be my favorite. < adds Nathan’s to shopping list >

Thoughts sent.

OMG - I forgot! Twenty-six years!! Thanks!

In my last Fed job, I had a sign on my cubicle - “I’m a freekin’ ray of sunshine!” One of my coworkers took to calling me Freekin’ Ray! I have it on a t-shirt, too, but it’s screen printed on black and it’s really hard to read.

I made a convenience center run, and it was most necessary. Along with the 2 full garbage cans, there was the old recycle can that split top to bottom, the box the TV came in, filled with flattened boxes, 3 bags of recycling, the bucket of bags of cat poop, and a little TV that needed recycling. The center was not crowded at all, so I was in and out pretty quickly.

Oh, I didn’t mention that we went to Texas Roadhouse for lunch, so no supper for us. I think it’s time for some chillage.

Today is a welcome cool, cloudy – even slightly rainy! – day. Temps started out at 61Ferrets and will climb to only 77F. My kinda day.

That is a lovely pic, shoe. Thanks for posting it!

Thanks, swampy. I am. Shame about that mowage, btw. Enjoy that yummy Sunday brunch tomorrow!

Perhaps a tad. It was a rather spectacular spill, I’m told. But I’m fine, really. Thanks for your kind wishes. And let us know what movie you decide on! The laundry will keep.

No need to ask me twice! I’m more or less sitting on my ass for the day. As mentioned, I’m doing fine except for a tender head and a bit of residual body soreness. Honestly, I got off easy. Thanks for your concern, all the same.

I wish you didn’t have to undergo the second laser surgery, but at least they can fix the problem. Seems like a lot of us suffer from dry eye as we get older, too. I use drops regularly along with my rice compress to keep things in order.

And… yeah. Definitely a word with the spouse about his thoughtless friend. It astonishes me that people must be told these things! You are much more patient than I would be over it!

Oopsie, valiant effort to catch up on your New Yorkers! I still keep a few stray editions in my bathroom. There’s always something good to read. Congrats on completing the separation from the old dwelling and getting back your security deposits in full.

Ahem. I can’t hear you! Nuts always belong in brownies, especially toasted pee-kahns! And Nut, are you sure you’ve got the right Username?

Thank you, truly. I’m good fine.

Good thoughts for your daughter’s kitteh, Nellie. I hope she doesn’t have to endure another loss with so much else going on.

Happy vacation, doggio!

As instructed and already mentioned, I’m taking it easy today. I’m doing some end-of-the-month personal administrative stuff and have written an email to my Dad, but that’s about it, aside from feeding Ollie and me. (Nutritious gruel for him, cold ham and hard boiled eggs for me, with some berries and vanilla yogurt on the side.) We shall go for a ramble around the property later to stretch our legs.

The bun is more comfortable now to be out and about while being watched. I think she appreciated the bit of rain, too, as it freshened up the dandelions for her.

May everyone enjoy a lovely Saturday!

Evening all.
Just got back from visiting my last remaining aunt with sis & bil.
She (aunt) recently celebrated her 100th birthday - got a card from the king !
She was born in Austria and remembered seeing adolf hitler when she was about 8 ! (not sure if she still remembers - I didn’t ask !)

Alas - no movie today. Too much to do. At least, I have a clean house now, and the weeds have been pulled in the front.. I was scouring the shower thinking about how it seems like I’m having to do more cleaning than I used to. Then it hit me that Three Sons Cleaners has become One Son Cleaner, and he’s the slowest one.

We’re gonna have to look into a cleaning service.

Maybe if it’s a two day thing, as switching from Maus to Mollie is not as quick as Mrs Doubtfire would have you think. I’ll also have been on GAHT for two years at that point, I don’t think there will be much of Maus’ face left at that point.

Brighttree is my new favorite, even if she says pea-cans wrong.

Metal Mouse truly great job on the points, particularly for a bachelor. We have 2 people eating and sometimes 4 when daughter comes and brings a friend. Sometimes, she will also go to Kroger and use our account so we get some points that way. Also, my sister normally shops at Meijer but on occasion she’ll go to Kroger and if she does, she uses our account.

Agreed; they are our favorites; I buy the Jumbo size.

taters my daughter’s best friend lives in southern CA; we live in the Mitten. That’s a 3 hr diff. I was totally unaware that if I texted her at 8am ET, that it would be waking her up at 5am PT. Oops. So, best friend told my daughter to tell me in the nicest of ways to Cut It Out! So I never text her until at least noon ET. Perhaps your husband should speak to his friend, D. (Best friend’s parents also live in the Mitten and are somewhat elderly so that is likely why she doesn’t silence her phone at night; I used to do the same when my parents were in their late 80’s. Now that red weighed in, it makes perfect sense to set a rule that only certain numbers can get through the silencing.)

Concur.

Busy day. Showered early then went to Kroger to buy items that I had coupons for that expire tomorrow. Why didn’t I buy them yesterday? Because the points earned wouldn’t have been able to be used.

Then walked to work. Had a problem with gift cards not being recognized several times during the past week so on Thursday manager did a test. Said test caused a bit of head scratching to figure out how it should be put on Daily Activity Report and then to document it all on the GL Code Report and the Payments Report. Figured it out then got a ride home with one of the guys.

Thoroughly water garden when I got home. Had Greek yogurt with cut up bananas, blueberries and walnuts. Have been watching the Rocket Mortgage Classic since my fav golfer is competing. Made chocolate chip cookie brownie bars for a summer potluck that we are attending. Need to leave in half hour so I best go change and roust Hubs to get ready.

Have a nice Saturday evening!

I’ve got a question about the whole points thing. As point (heh) of reference, the only stores near me that award them are the two most expensive grocery stores and I don’t shop in either except for really great loss-leaders.

So, I wonder if the savings on gas are greater than the extra cost of the groceries. I don’t know what it takes to get a dollar off a gallon of gas, but since my fill up is usually around 15 gallons, we’re looking at $15. But having done a quick dash thru Teeter looking at prices, I can see it costing me that much more in just one shopping trip, let along enough to accumulate the points. Have you point-users ever looked at that? There’s no Kroger around here, so I can’t compare their prices.

Back in the olden days when we were working, FCD and I would generally go to bed around 9 because we got up at 5. His parents stayed up till after the 11 o’clock news, and a few times, his dad called around 10, waking us. So I asked FCD to ask his dad not to call after 9 unless he was on fire. :fire:  He kindly complied.

We had a short but VERY LOUD t-storm pass thru here a bit ago. One crack of lightning was really close, but I didn’t hear sirens, so I’m guessing it didn’t set anyone on fire. Now all is quiet and I bet it’s mega-humid out there. I don’t care enough to step out and see.

I just had a peach from the local farm - OMG!! SOOOOOOOOO good! I have 4 more - I may have to have another tonight. Lurves me some peaches!

And lurves me some chillage, so back I go!

Mowed, have I.

Costco baby back ribs from the hot case for dinner. They’re in the oven keeping warm.

Hugs and good vibes.

Please add my best wishes!

Since I’ve been in Texas, I’ve found that it’s not. In middle TN, Kroger was in the middle of the pack pricewise, but down here, I tend to spend twice as much there as I would at Joe V.'s, FoodTown or HEB. Since I’m retired and only fill up my tank (13 gallons) once a month, it’s not economical. That and at Kroger, you have to do the digital coupons to really clean up and most of what I buy is fresh stuff or store brand.

I’ve been listening to the news and am kinda worried about you, the Mrs and your fuzzbutts.

Howdy Y’all! I baked the ham and the cake. The cabbage casserole is ready for bakeage tomorrow mornin’. I felt so domesticated! The rest of the day has been spent in RDOS sloth as it’s been off and on rainy. Leftovers got heated and et up. Thus is the news from swampland.

Nuts how rude of those gulls!

Hippie cool that you got to meet up with an old high skool friend and got books!

Taters sorry you face future laser surgery. Also, D needs to be given a rule such as no calls or texts between midnight and seven a.m. unless it’s a dire emergency. GEEZ!

MOOOOOOM Happy Doperversary!

Oopsie HUZZAH on gettin’ your security deposit back in full!

pjd happy birthday to your aunt! What a milestone!

Or UWTA [uppity women think alike]

You earned A LOT of brownie points!

I can barely stand to set up and switch to a new phone for myself much less for someone who boogered theirs up being stupid and careless.

Here’s a just-us-girls-trick: contour your cleavage to accentuate it with a little subtle blush or bronzer.

Not that I ever girlied enough to do that but I read about it a lot.

Why is that? Did something happen?

Your state is on fire and people are worried about Jimothy because it is close to his(?) neighborhood.

Jimothy lives in Ballard, which is a neighbourhood in Seattle; so he’s safe from the fires. :raccoon:
