Happy Doperversary, FCM! ![]()
And good morning, everyone else.
At 10:54am it’s partly cloudy and 83°F here 13 miles west of the White House, with a heat index of 86 and a forecasted daily high of 88 (which will probably feel like 90+). I’d been hoping for another realtively cool morning, to sit on my deck and read – I’m now 4 New Yorker issues behind, plus a short story I printed out – but 'twill not be today. I’m glad it’s finally August, because it means September and autumn aren’t far behind! C’mon, fall! ![]()
My mailbox is in a cluster at the end of my street, and I don’t get much snail mail (plus it holds a lot), so I’ve taken to only checking it on Fridays after work: yesterday’s haul included a check from my previous property manager, refunding the security deposits I’d paid in 2014!
Not only am I glad to have the money back, but with that check – and its accompanying “final accounting” statement – I’m officially free of that house. The lease ended a month ago: he had until the middle of this month to return my deposits, but I’m glad he didn’t wait it out. One less thing I have to keep track of.
I have an extra ticket to a concert in September – I figured that one of my cousins would come down from PA to go with me (we’ve seen this band together before), but turns out he has tickets for the same tour the weekend before! – and yesterday I learned that a friend from high school who lives in Utah might actually come out here for it.
I mentioned the show in response to a meme he posted and half-joking said “come to VA in September and go with me,” but then he asked for the date and said he’s been thinking about a trip back home anyway, and is going to talk with his wife and start looking into flights. That would be so awesome! I don’t have any local friends – or many other friends at all – who would be into this particular show[1], and I’ve been looking foward to this tour but I hate going to shows alone (I actually won’t), so I’ve been a little torn about what to do. I hope my HS friend can make that weekend work! ![]()
I spent the morning catching up on personal administrivia (and typing this!), and when I’m done with this post I might go replace the toilet seat in the master bathroom. The new one has been in that room, in its box, for two weeks now; partly because it’s been really hot upstairs on the weekends and I haven’t wanted to deal with it. I think I finally feel like tackling it today. I just hafta grab some pliers first, for removing the current seat.
That’s my only other “to do” list item today: I plan to spend the rest of the afternoon sitting at my kitchen table building Lego. I started the 1966 Ford GT40 MKII last night: it’s only 793 pieces so it’s not out of the question that I could finish it today, but that’s fine because my next set – the Jaguar E-Type – is supposed to be delivered this afternoon.
This morning I also ordered two sets that finally became available: The X-Files – with a small “Scully’s Lab” gift with purchase – and Hanging Golden Pothos.
It could be fun if you could go as Maus, but then halfway through step out and come back in as Mollie…and see if anyone recognizes you!
Yeah, yeah…I’ve heard it before, but my charm and sparkling personality always eventually bring people back. ![]()
Excellent news!
I know it’s not the same as a physical paper, but are there any online local news sources that cover your county?
Nuts do not belong in brownies/should never be the default!
My BMW requires[2] 93 octane, so I’m paying more than $5/gal. And VA is cheaper than MD: gas near work is almost $6/gal. Sigh.
OMG!! Please be on the lookout for any concussion/whiplash symptoms…and I hope you aren’t feeling too many ill effects today!
Me too. Heh.
It does! That’s a cool photo.
Ain’t the little things great sometimes? ![]()
Definitely! Sorry about that.
