(Old) A new topic for Slackards in the MMP

I did not, in fact, replace the master bathroom’s toilet seat after my last post. I wound up doing a little reorganizing in my home office: it didn’t take long, but when it was done I was hungry so I decided to skip straight to lunch/Lego. Maybe tomorrow morning.

I finished the 1966 Ford GT40 MKII:

The Technic sets are always fun builds; it’s interesting to see how the various pieces and sections wind up going together. As always my sticker application game was far from perfect, but as always it was good enough. Afterwards I spent some time futzing with some of my Lego displays, then I tried dusting all of them using a new compressed air blower. It has three speeds: the middle one wasn’t strong enough but the top one was too strong, so I wound up going back to my tried-and-true makeup brushes. The air blower wasn’t expensive; I’ll either find another use for it or give it away to someone.

Dogs know who cares for them. My ex would leave his dog home alone while he worked and then would go out most nights*: while we lived together I didn’t go out on weeknights, and the dog bonded with me because I was around and would actually spend time with/pay attention to her. There were times when we were both home and she would follow me around instead of him. Heh.

(*one of several red flags I completely missed/ignored)

At work they’re renovating the third floor of the building, and my team will be relocating to that floor in a few months: when we get to our new space I will finally have an office, and I plan to put up a copy of that “I am a beacon of joy” comic. It’s from the Strange Planet webcomic. T-shirts are available, and one of these days I might actually get one!

Evening all. I have a couple soccer meetings tomorrow which will limit if not foil any exercise plans for Sunday, so instead I burned a ton of calories this afternoon and had my Sunday dinner at Golden Corral this evening. As I think I mentioned before, I’m glad the place is 24 miles away or I would be visiting it so often that no amount of gym work would save my waistline. But one disappointment, they did not have any Pecan Pie out, so I had to settle for Apple.

Rain was very scattered all day, you could drive through an intense shower and a mile later the sun would be out. We’ll see what tomorrow is like.

And no afternoon update so 23+ messages to visit. Onward I go (and it just started raining again for about 45 seconds and then just shut off..weird..and now has started again).

flyboy, pretty much been as Oscar Mayer guy all my life. But do love that old commercial. Glad mowage was doable.

FCM, just looked up the Akron Zoo on Wikipedia and it has expanded quite a bit since I was last there (about 60+ years ago). Parents usually took us up to the Cleveland Zoo, which was much larger and fairly close to Cleveland Airport so we could stop and watch the planes (this was in the more innocent days when you could walk through the airport freely and watch the planes from a viewing area in the terminal). And happy Dopeversary!

red, had no problem using my credit card for paying the toll on-line, so guess they have it straightened out. Best of luck with the itchies.

Oopsie, it doesn’t start to cool down Fall-wise here in N. Ali-bama until October at the earliest. And money in the mailbox is always a pleasant occurence. Happy Terlet Seat replacement!! (And I see you instead played with Lego, but since you shared the picture all is forgiven…

As to the nuts in brownies, I used to make two batches of brownies for work pot-lucks, one with Walnuts and one without. Either way, they were good.

Bright Tree, missed that, hope your head ain’t aching much. And I see by your later reply your doing OK.

Nellie, at least Max’s person recognized her limits instead of stubbornly trying to manage anyway. And I don’t even get water for my haircut… Best wishes for daughter’s cat.

doggio, I just hope you don’t return from vacation and the building looks like something out of some dystopian movie…

PJ, 100 years old…I still have 27 to go to meet that, figure I have a fair to middlin’ chance.

Mollie, A cleaning service is something I have considered more than once, just the law of inertia (don’t want to do the hiring) has slowed progress. Maybe I’ll make it my 2027 resolution…

Cat Glove, I manage it by doing most of my shopping on Friday, when I can get a digital coupon for 4X bonus points, so $100 spent is 400 points. Plus I do their survey every week, so that is an extra 50 points per week. But 1900 is high for me, mostly because I had to restock after vacation time. Will need it this week, car says I have about 80 miles range left.

FCM, Kroger is pretty much the Mid-price option here, with Publix being the expensive place and Wal-Mart the lower cost end. They also have 3 stores less than 5 miles of my house so it’s simply easier to go to. And am also a great user of digital/store coupons.

And it’s approaching 9pm so I need to do the evening internetting before bedtime, so catch y’all tomorrow.

Or figure out how to block that caller via his contacts or call/text logs. Hubs will still be able to to call out or text rude, thoughtless friend but no sleep rending noises for you. Do it!

You know who else texts maniacally in the dead of night? Yeah, don’t be like him.

LOL, awwww. At least you’ve got your head on straight about brownies! As does cat glove!

Yeah, I’m fine, more or less. But not entirely, because I see I overlooked to wish FCM a happy Doperversary!

Yeah, that ^.

Such an excellent point.

Relaxing afternoon and now evening here. Dinner was shrimpies sauteed with cherry tomatoes, garlic, some hot pepper flakes and wine with pasta. Fast and tasty. Topped with chopped Italian parsley and lemon zest. Also had a glass of the same wine with dinner that I added to the shrimp.

Ollie had his healthful gruel and then expressed his appreciation by wrestling with my arm for 45 minutes. We did have a nice walk up to the mailbox earlier and both enjoyed that.

Have splendid evenings, everyone.

FCM Kroger gives points equal to 4 times your grocery bill on Fridays so if I buy $50 of groceries on Friday, I get 200 points. Most of the time we buy an average of $80-90 each Friday so that would be 320-360 points. If there are 4 Fridays in a month, then 1,280 - 1,440 or if 5 Fridays, then 1,600 - 1,800. Then Kroger allows you to fill out a survey once every 7 days for 50 points so if there are 4 times you can do that, you get 200 additional points; or if there are 5 times you can do that (like if you start on the 1st, 2nd or 3rd, you get 250 additional points.
Like Metal Mouse said you get 10 cents off a gallon for each 100 points you redeem up to a maximum of $1 off a gallon per time. We always fill up at least 2 cars, sometimes 3, at the same time so we generally save $24 to $32 per time filling up.
Kroger is a moderate priced chain and offers a lot of digital coupons which we take full advantage of. They also send paper coupons to the house based on our previous purchases so more savings. Additionally, they run promotions of Buy 5 of any participating products and get a $1 off on each. Or sometimes, BOGO. My daughter makes fun of me for what she calls the BODEGA I have in my basement because I don’t wait to buy something when I need it, I buy it when it’s on sale, obviously non-perishables, although if I have room in fridge or freezer, then I will buy butter, bacon, cheese when it’s on sale. And last year, I started buying ‘used’ meat after you explained the concept, oh and recently I’ve started looking at the ‘used’ aka day old, baked goods.
So, although I’ve never quantified it, I do believe I save money on gas by buying at Kroger and using the gas points.

Up from naptime. I had a Sazarac, and Asian BBQ chicken for dinner.

I shop at Aldi for basics, and Teeter for luxury things. I avoid Wally World.

Good, but keep an eye on things.

Cheaper than having another two Cleaning Sons.

It looks like half the time, anyways.

I took my dachshund Mauser to the vet on an emergency basis this morning. He was a little off last night, not wanting or able to climb onto the bed(there are steps) and this morning he could barely walk at all, and cried when I tried to pick him up. His regular vet was not open Saturdays so I took him to a walk in clinic I have used before for unscheduled things.

They were really great and explained what seemed to be happening to his back. Now he has three meds to take, and I have made up a chart as their length and time of use are all different.
I didn;t know dogs could use Prednisone, Mauser is still pretty subdued but he could walk to his water dish.

Mauser is fourteen years old and it’s things like this that make me apprehensive, I love him so. :

Oh, Cupcakes, I am so sorry. Our long-backed fur kids are so fragile. I hope the medication helps little Mauser, and I will keep good thoughts for him. Please keep us updated, ok?

Back from the Summer Party Potluck. Oh my gosh, it was EXCELLENT! The hosts were so very nice to open up their home. First the garden is just so incredible; so many different plants, so many colors, just really awesome. The hostess gave a guided tour. Then the people; there were around 32 people there; I knew a little more than half dozen (actually when I counted in my head it was 8) and met so many interesting people. But the food, oh my goodness, it was so varied and so very delicious: lasagna, chicken cutlets, cheesy potatoes with a crunchy topping, Greek spinach pie, watermelon-fresh mozzarella & mint salad, 3 bean salad (I didn’t take any, I don’t like it, but Hubs said it was his favorite), meatballs, a corn off the cob salad that had tomatoes, maybe cukes and several other veggies in it, fruit salad, dates wrapped in bacon on toothpicks, there were other dishes but who can remember it all. I think my favorite was the Greek spinach pie. After a chance for a little digestion, we made our way over to the dessert table which had a raisin-walnut sour cream pie which was so scrumptious and the favorite dessert, brownies, cheesecake, baklava, some kind of cut-up bananas in some kind of maybe pudding-creamy mixture-did not look appetizing to me, and my chocolate chip cookie brownie bars. I came home with a plate holding 1 solitary bar. I guess they were a hit.

Tomorrow will be another busy day: first mass, then daughter is preaching at her 'piscopalian church and of course, we will be going then we’re going for Thai to celebrate her girlfriend’s birthday.

So, perhaps I’ll be back to recap tomorrow evening. In any case have a great Sunday!

ps. {{{Cupcakes & Mauser}}}

I will, and thanks to you and Kitten Mitten for the good wishes.

I’m a cat guy, so I don’t know. But 14 seems very old for a dog. We’ve lost three cats; one at eight, one at six (both very young), and one at 17½. It’s very hard watching pets age. :crying_cat:

The back yard was down to 2 fireflies tonight. I guess most everybody got laid, except for those 2 poor guys. Incel fireflies…lol.

I know what you mean. My cat Atilla is nineteen, the only pet I’ve ever had that I know their exact birthday. He was born in my backyard April 30, 2007

(((hugs and skritches )))

He lacks a day of being 9 years older than Nelson.

It’s 11:30pm, I’ve been up 16 hours, so right after finishing this note I’m off to bed (with a short stop at the bathroom).

Cat Glove, your Kroger operates pretty much like mine, but with only one car and usually having to fill up only once a month, I save only on one vehicle, but that savings pre-Troubles often got my gasoline bill down below $20 (it’s more like $50 now).

And sounds like the party was a lot of fun. Best wishes for the Preachin’ Daughter.

Cupcakes, best wishes to Mauser, but 14 is a pretty advanced age, I will cross appendages for the best.

:grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

And time to head off to terlet and then bed, definitely in that order…see y’all tomorrow.

I’m back. I have walked Max twice, helped his person hunt for her keys. Old theory: They’re in her car. New theory: They’ve gone where the goblins go.

My daughter texted me: there’s a big fire in Spokane, and it’s jumped the river. My daughter is safe for now, but it’s a fast-moving fire, and officials are using words like “catastrophic.” She’s taken in two friends and someone’s gramma, plus their assorted pets, and has poured wine for everyone. I’m telling myself she’s a smart cookie and will be OK.

This is why I hate August. Heat and smoke are good for barbecue, not so good for climates.

Thank you for the hugs and good thoughts about my daughter’s kitty.

I started stripping the polish off my floor. Couldn’t figure out why the cleaner wouldn’t rinse off. Ohhh, you’ve got to dilute it. D’oh. I guess you’re supposed to read the label or something. I’ve rinsed it four times and am still getting up suds.

Well, parts of it are. We got more rain this morning, so I’m hoping that helps protect us over here at the capital. Of course, it also means more undergrowth. Flyboy, have you had rain up there recently?

I did that when I was a Hot Box girl in a high school production of Guys and Dolls. We wore skimpy little bikinis and all decided we’d highlight our bazooms. We used bronzer and white highlighter. Surprisingly, there was only one complaint about our brazen hussy look. My mom was pretty shocked, though.

Mollie, your assets don’t even need highlighting.

Also, brownies without nuts are sad. I like to toast the pea-CAHNS first.

Wow, that’s so interesting!

Happy Doperversary, MCM–or should I call you Freakin’ Ray?

Doggio, I don’t know why, but I’m always really happy when you’re on vacation, maybe because you work, what, 6 days a week?

MetalMouse, you’re right, but she didn’t have much choice. She can’t bend down to pick him up, and he has the magical ability to bolt his paws to the floor, so moving him is like towing Mount Rushmore. Anyway, I’ll walk him twice tomorrow. I also have to walk Sir Charles.

I agree. Hebrew National spoiled me for any other hot dog.

Oh, my, that might be the cutest thing I’ve heard for a while. I can just picture it.

shoe, I love that photo!

Taters, I can’t find your post about laser surgery. Do you have to have the new IOL zapped? If so, it’s even more piece-of-cake-ier than the cataract surgery. The hardest part for me was keeping my eye open.

I kept going back to that picture.

First of all, that’s an excellent top. Fits nicely. Coupla first bits unbuttoned … hellz yeah!

Nice color for you, too.

But oh, man. That smile.

Been a sprinkle-y and humid evening in western Mitten, though I did survive another Long/Late Night without too much hardship.

A less-than-cheap trip to the local sushi place definitely helped keep up my morale & energy.

Food. Good for ya. Whoda thunk?

Now, we go less rosy. Cuz, I gotta say it: Goddamn friggin’ cat.

I let him out (in his glow-in-the-dark jacket!) while posting earlier, and after a while he came back in, all excited, and paying WAY too much attention to one of my shoes.

I know him well enough to know … yup. There’s a damn mouse huddled in my sneaker.

I yeeted the shoe outside and shut the door, while Monkey cried and whined because I took away his new toy.

I did let him out of his jacket, cuz that was it for his outside privileges. (Dammit.)

About an hour later, I thought, “Hey, it might rain, again, let’s bring back in my shoe before it gets soaked.”

{ opens door }

THUMP! (Monks had been in a window sill.)

Little bastard SHOT out the door before I could even grab his tail. No doubt hoping to find his “friend.”

I’ve been calling him for the last half hour or so, but, nope. And it’s not like he doesn’t know his name.

He’s pulled this trick so many times before that I’m not even worried. Just annoyed.

Am I going to hell for hoping it rains a bit more? Scale of 1-10?

Little frigging bastard.

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 77 Amurrkin out and cloudy with a predicted high of 85 with rain/tstorms/apocalypse predicted all day. We shall see. The big item on today’s agenda is deheathenization followed by first Sunday brunch. I shall also be back at the church house at three p.m. for the first meetin’ of our newly formed inquirers class that’s called “Patrick’s Path.” We have some folks who have expressed to be either confirmed or received, so they have been invited as well. Should be innerestin’ as the plan is to do this weekly for a few months. At least it will keep me off the streets.

{{{CupCakes}}} hope Mauser is better today.

shoe hope Monkey has shown back up by now.

Cat_Glove is your daughter a lay preacher? TEC has such a ministry.

Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then I suppose I should purtify for deheathenization and get the cabbage casserole in the oven.

Happy Sunday Y’all!

Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. On vacation. I got up at 0600, but didn’t get out of bed for half an hour because somebody wanted snuggles and earwax. I shall do the usual morning cleaning and afternoon slothing. It is 77 degrees Ferret Height(25 Centipedes) and raining south of me.
