Average lifespan for a Dackel is 12-16 years.
Oh yes, the vet told me and it’s on the pill bottle too. He does seem more thirsty but not hungry.
So this has happened to one of the corners of my kitchen, under the counter with the sink. It feels like it’s recent, but I’m not certain. (I had some water spilled on the counter above overnight, but it doesn’t seem related.)
This building was built in 2000, so I realize that some settling and wear is inevitable, but is there anything I should do to address it in the short term, for reasons like needing the gap to be sealed against bugs or water or something? Or to keep the whole thing from suddenly collapsing in the next hour? (Though I figure that’s unlikely.)
Second coat of paint is done. Poke is in the oven. We had some serious rain speed thru and now it’s HUUUUUUUMID!!
Gonna chill a bit till time to start sides.
I tried to create a listing, but I can’t see any way to see if it actually posted. Maybe it’s there, maybe it isn’t.
Oh, wait. I found it.
Well, the idea of pasta pomodoro is on hold. I went to the store to get the pasta and what did I see? Fresh local corn on the cob lookin’ back at me! Guess what’s for dinner! Sadly, peach/nectarine season is about done in, but fresh corn is a nice substitute.
I cleaned, dusted, and vacuumed. I cleaned Spot’s box. I filled the vermin feeder, then napped. Lunch was tuna and soba noodles with a Negroni. We’re having a thundermonsoon.
Just Spot. But if furry girl with an earwax fetish asks me out, I’m not tuning her down. ![]()

Missed church again. No one near enough to pick me up. May look for another.
Took a short nap. Sometimes your body demands it.
We went. We met the Vietnamese girl whom Mrs. L.A. will help sponsor. She and her b/f are coming over next Saturday. I’ll make garlic-pesto salmon (from Costco) and creamed spinach with feta (from scratch).
We’re still working on the Christmas Cookies jigsaw puzzle. It’s harder than it looks.
Cookie, fresh sweet corn is always a treat. I remember being at a campground on my 21st birthday. The folks in the tent next to ours invited us to join them in eating some corn they’d cooked. It turned out they’d pilfered some corn from a farm field. It was starchy, because it was crop corn, not sweet corn. Oh, well.
That’s all for now. I wanted to catch up on the Sunday stuff. I’ll catch you on the new MMP tomorrow.
Howdy Y’all! We deheathenated, I got to plop in a pew with OYKW, and then had the usual fantastic first Sunday brunch. I had some outstandin’ chikin ‘n dressin’. I must needs bother the bringer of it so’s I can improve upon my own which is good, but not as good as that was. I managed to have about an hour’s worth of nappage and then went back to the church house for the class at three p.m. I thoroughly enjoyed that and am lookin’ forward to continuin’. We decided snacks are in order for the future. It’s been rainy off and on all day. I thought we were goin’ to get caught in a deluge on the way back to da cave after church and brunch, but it held off until we were inside and dry. Now I shall go see what up on teh intartoobz.
Knotty, indeed one must be careful when one leaps about in lard. It’s slippery stuff! I gather they were some city slicker corn thiefs who wouldn’t know the difference between crop corn and sweet corn.
Flyboy I got nuttin’ against a fancied up Bloody Mary with all sorts of weird stuff stuck in it, but, to me, the best one is a good plain ol’ one.
CupCakes God will definitely understand your wantin’ to stay with your furbaby.
Taters Mr. Taters deserved that dressin’ down from Zeus for his slovenly bacon cookin’ ways, I am sure!
red hope you’re feelin’ better now.
nuts strawberries and cream is a fine, fine thing!
Cookie glad you made a new friend. I have a confession. Biscuits ‘n gravy is OK, but I am not a huge fan. I am sure I just lost some southern cred for postin’ that.
Oopsie replace that terlet seat at your own leisure, I say. Little projects such as that get frequently put off for quite a while here in da cave.
Leaper sorry I couldn’t get the image to load, but I hope whatever the problem is it’s fixed soonest.
Coppertone sorry you missed church again. I know how much you enjoy goin’.
Being a city boy, I had no idea there were different kinds of corn. I lived in Belgium for a couple of years. We rented a home in a small town near Brussels and the house was right next to a cornfield. I thought SCORE! Wandered over and grabbed a few ears off of a stalk and cooked them. Turns out there is a major difference between sweet corn and silage. ![]()
Ah, goddammit, I don’t know what happened to my picture. Try this link instead.
I rode in one! They would send the weinermobiles to grocery stores to give out samples and coupons. Once they had enough kids corralled, they would put us on bus like seats and drive around the parking lot. It was very thrilling!
Oh, poor baby and poor you. I sure do hope it is something that can be fixed, I know how much you adore and need him.
Thank you, its good to know where to worry! I hope the fires stop soon, but am not very hopeful. Its currently flooding on a different part of the state, which is very out of season.
We left the family reunion just in time, the flooding started about an hour after we left so we didn’t get trapped on the other side of the river. Our catsitter was available so the fuzzbutts got fed on time but they were still at the door tapping their watches when we got home an hour later.
One of Hubs’ cousins lurves potato candy and ate three pieces in less than an hour!!! Other folks took some and ate bits, but Paul ate every bite and licked his fingers. We sent the leftover candy home with him ![]()
My shoulder did not like the long drive (almost to Virginia) but I have PT tomorrow to hopefully stretch it out some.
Back in AZ, I would go out and water when I thought it might rain. It broke the surface tension on the dirt and allowed it to get a better soaking.
So waves and loves to everyone, we only have four more months until I can respond properly.
The Thai place forgot to put coconut milk into my tom kha gai. I mean, it’s the defining ingredient. I left them a message on Farcebook. I put some heavy cream into the soup. It’s the right colour, and it’s creamy; but it needs the coconut. (Not bad, though.)
Dinner tonight is poke loin, baked N.O.T., and green beans with Calabrian chilies.
Earlier:
Roomie: < goes through CD collection, sunlight reflect onto wall >
Spot: < attacks reflection on wall > “ACCURSED PHOTONS!”
Yep. but hope you can get to a church soon.
So even as a child, you wanted to ride the Weinermobile? ![]()
If the Bloody Mary is as good as the one I had in the seafood restaurant in Southport, N.C. while monumentally hungover the garnishes don’t matter. Although pickled foods and salty, fatty foods make you feel better, hence the garnish.
I’ve had like 4 floods in my kitchen since 2009, and I’ve never had that happen. It might be more than a water issue.
I like a nice bloody Mary, but it’s not a go-to drink. I’ll drink them, because I’d get through straight vodka too quickly.
No reply to my message about the missing coconut milk in my soup, but the owner (a 70- or 80-year-old White guy, married to a Thai woman who – I think – runs the restaurant) probably hasn’t seen it yet. Hey, George! Gonna comp me for that?
Mrs. L.A. liked her ‘Swimming Rama’, but says it’s not as good as their lemon grass chicken. Also, she said it was greasy. She said I could take her leftovers for my lunch tomorrow.
The Harder They Fall (1956), Humphrey Bogart’s last film, is starting on TCM now. I didn’t realise it was his last film, the one time I saw it.
And back for a late-night, end-of-week final. Did manage to do some soccer stuff and get some treadmilling in, so the Big Bowl of Pasta didn’t hurt the calorie meter too badly. Have had some rain in and out of the area most of the afternoon and the temperatures are supposed to stay below 90F for most of the week. Have my list ready to go for next week’s activities, the big one is my Dental cleaning and exam tomorrow, so hopefully nothing is awry with the teeth.
And as usual when I miss an afternoon posting, got a lot to get through, so entering scrolling mode in 3…2…1…
Knots , a couple years ago when I was in Chicago for a couple days vacation, a Wienermobile was in the parking lot of the hotel I was staying at, I have pictures buried somewhere in my files.
Flyboy, everything is better with bacon.
FCM, way too much activity for a Sunday morning…
Cupcakes, all the best to you and Mauser.
Taters, glad the dogs like bacon and eggs. I’m good on bacon but never been an egg fancier.
Cookie, always good to have friends for dining.
Lily, sounds like a pretty nice trip was had. And the upcoming one sounds interesting too.
Jumpy, can’t open your picture unless I install some software (for metric conversion?), so best of luck with the problem. And I could open the new one, that is not what a 25-old building should look like, I’d have the management (if your in an apartment or rental home) or have a professional take a look, but probably should be dealt with.
And that’s all I have the ambition for. Y’all have a good night and I’ll catch you in the morning.
