Morning all. Bladder left me alone until 6:30am so that seemed like a good compromise so I am up and (more or less) conscious. Waiting the prescribed time after medicating to eat my Big Bowl O’Cheerios and have clipped the usable digital coupons for my Kroger run tomorrow. Another day hitting 90F with no rain in sight, if we don’t get water from the sky this weekend I’ll need to water the yard for the first time this year, Mother Nature has been a pretty steady provider so far.
shoe, that is a nice picture, sitting on the porch as the skunks cavort in the neighbors yard. Didn’t make it out to see the moon, might take a gander tonight if the skies are clear.
FCM, hope the EEG shows nothing…wrong, that is…
Cookie, glad the Strat and Amp found a good home.
And near 8am, so I shall murder Cheerios…yes, I will be a Cereal Killer…
It’s a sunny Thursday morning in Elkhart. We’re headed to Mishawaka today for my allergy shot. Mishawaka is called Shoe City for its history of making rubberized footwear such as galoshes and sneakers. If you ever had a pair of US Keds, they probably came from Mishawaka. I’m told the city is having a celebration this year, with shoe-themed decorations around town.
I don’t know if that sort of thing happens in your part of the world, but here’s how it works. Local businesses are sold a blank thing as a fund-raiser, and they decorate them, often in a way related to the business. Here in Elkhart, you’ll see elk statues. The one for the Lerner Theater has a tux coat with tickets sticking out. Another is covered in painted flowers. You can duckoogle “elkhart indiana elk statues” to see 'em.
Okay, I slogged through all the posts. Hugs, hearts, and sympathy for all who need 'em. I gotta go.
It’s 54F and sunny out. It’ll be sunny all day, with a daytime high of 81F.
Belated Doperversary greetings, Bright Tree!
FCM, I hope the EEG results are good. I’m sorry to hear about the BiL’s surgery. I hope it goes better than expected.
Shoe, that sounds like a most pleasant way to spend some time.
JtC, at least Mr. Cane is taking an interest? I have to laugh; my husband was the same way. I still miss the flock of goldfinches and bush tits, but the hummingbirds, house finches, nuthatches, and both black-capped and chestnut-backed chickadees are everyday visitors. Lots of robins and towhees, as well as a very vocal Stellar Jay and his crew, along with the crows.
I still haven’t made it out for a pedicure. I gotta get moving today after watering the posies. I actually didn’t water yesterday, so they’ll need a good soak today.
I have a late afternoon follow-up to the follow-up appointment for my eyes tomorrow because they didn’t like the pressure in one eye. I would much rather have an early morning appointment, but that’s all they had available. Bah. Maybe we can go out to dinner afterward.
Alright, I suppose I should finish my coffee and get going. Please take care of yourselves. You’re all really an integral part of my day (selfishly speaking), and really, my world is a little richer for “knowing” all of you. I’m glad to have met some of you in real life, too.
I didn’t wake up until 05:00. Fed the cats and started breakfast (JD’s ‘hot’ sausage on toast with an over-easy egg on top), hit the head, and I don’t think I even started eating until 05:20. So I didn’t walk this morning. I’ll shave and shower in about 15 minutes.
Good morning, all! It was 69ºF (Nice!) with a dew point of 67º, so once again it was incredibly humid, but at a much more reasonable temperature. Mrs Magill has been working her ass off at Band Camp this week. I guess she’s decided that she wants to make our last year really count. Her smart watch said she’d taken about 20,000 steps yesterday. No surprise then that when I came to bed, I found her fast asleep, with her phone by her head. I put her phone on its charging stand for her and let her sleep in when I walked with Chloé.
Yes. Yes, it was.
It looks slightly gibbous, so there should be another good one tonight, just watch out for werewolves.
They are… as long as they are over there, and I am over here. If they decide to come here, then I will go over there.
Nott - Raleigh did a similar thing about thirty years ago with wolves. Doggio will have to fill us in if there are still any wolfies about.
I remember seeing a short during the lockdown. There was a guy talking about tough Gen X were. “We did this. We did that.” And he ended with something like, “And I never thought I would get this invested in what kind of birds are at my bird feeder… That’s a house finch.”
Warning: Gender ship incoming:
I now have the official diagnosis. Apparently, you have to see a therapist for six months before you can even be diagnosed with GD. Next step is contacting the My Personal Champion Team at Cigna. They’ll hook me up with a WPATH certified endocrinologist to discuss GAHT. The next couple of years will be crazy.
Up, caffeinating, breakfasted, infused and fixing to do KP. Today is pretty much RDOS, although, if maintenance gets here early enough, I’ll do a load of laundry. I put in a work order to have light bulbs replaced in my hall ceiling fixture.
Its gotten to the point that when a doctor asks, tell me about your friends? (meaning they are asking about do I have protective against isolation social connections0, my brain and hearts immediately go to you mumpers and a few more dopers like Beck or Spoons.
I’ve been EEG’d, after which I stopped at Food Lion for some sodas on sale, then came home and washed my hair. That goop they use is not conducive to a nice coif. But it’s clean now, so yay.
The technician didn’t gasp or call for a doctor, stat, so I guess there’s nothing too bizarre from my test. I see my neurologist on Sep 3, so I guess I’ll find out then, unless something ominous shows when the next person in line views the result.
Meanwhile, I’m exhausted. But it’s lunch time - I’ll see if FCD wants to go grab something quick. Otherwise I’ll throw together a sammich. So after ingesting some food, I’ll decide what to do next.
Why did I hear this in a syrup-y Southern Belle tone? All it needs is “Bless your hearts” -
That’s me - I wake up about 2 a.m. every morning and can never get back to sleep. Yes, it was gorgeous here south of San Jose. I went to my gym at 5:30 a.m., when it was still pretty dark out, and the moon was big and silvery in the sky right opposite the doors of the gym. I stopped to admire it again and mentioned to a passing teen gym member, “Hey, check out that gorgeous moon!” He said “Huh?”, glanced up for about 1/4 of a second, and then returned to his phone.
Local tomatoes are finally in, and they are ripe and luscious. After gym, I broiled up a batch of them, picked off the skins, blended them a little to break them up, and divided up the puree into four Ziploc quart-size freezer bags. So that’s four dinners’ worth of tomatoes in the freezer, and I’ll probably add about sixteen more before I’m done. We eat it all winter long on pasta and in Mexican cooking. We’ll probably have some at lunchtime today, as pasta sauce with chunks of shrimp and fresh basil in it, on top of angel hair pasta.
I just had to leave a voice mail, and realized that I still leave voice mails like there’s someone having to write down my message.
“Hi, my name is Mollie Magill and I need something done. Please call me back at N P A - N X X - X X… XX. That’s N P A - N X X - X X… XX, and my name is Mollie Magill.”
i say “please return my call at… you are looking for a writing utencil… now you are for some thing to write on. okay, you are ready now… x..x..x..x..x..x..x..x..x..x” i say the numbers very slowly. very annoying when someone sprints through the phone number.
quite a few times the person returning the call said it was like i was standing next to them. there are times the number you are calling from is not the same as the number to return the call. also auto text voicemail thing does get things very wrong.
Taters and BBB
That’s JUST how I’ve been feeling lately too! ((((((EVERYBODY)))))))
Up and sorta sheveled. it’s dark and rainy with a high of 84, which is not too bad for us this time of year at all! Working on job hunting, Sabbath school stuffs and following up with a couple of friends who are in the hospital.. TTYS
Glad I’m not the only one who says the phone number digit-by-digit. (I’ll state 555-1212 as “five five five one two one two” and enunciate each digit clearly, rather than “five fifty-five twelve twelve”.)
Picked up the habit of doing numbers that way when doing call center work. It’s aggravating to have to clarify “was that fourteen or forty?” (for example), so saying each digit individually very much improves clarity and accuracy in my experience.
shoe isn’t nature wonderful! Glad you had an enjoyable sit on your steps.
Is that a guitar or a violin or ?
Knotts in Fargo, home of NDSU Bison, there are bison statues all over town and they are painted in very colorful ways.
Worked; if I wasn’t there to alert the manager to some things, I just don’t know how things would go smoothly. And the worst part is not being acknowledged for alerting him to something important that he needs to tend to that he was totally unaware of. Harumpff.
Then another annoying thing that daughter did. I need to keep telling myself it’s only money and probably not that much to be honest. But it’s that she didn’t listen closely and understand something and so, it ends up costing us extra money.
So, I’ve been in a mood for awhile. But now that I’ve vented about those 2 things, my mood has lifted. Thank you dear mmp friends for being there to vent to.
Don’t know what I’m going to do the rest of the day. Should go to swim but may end up just being RDOS and catching up on dvr’d shows.
Want to guess what I spent the day doing? No pigeons today, just writing, making graphs, remaking graphs and occasionally running away to hide in the tunnel for a bit and watch the bees and hoverflies.
The first tomato of the year finally ripened yesterday, and… it was a bit disappointing if I’m honest. I’m hoping it’s just the lack of sunlight over the last week, as we’ve had over 4 days of solid cloud n rain, but it was more than a bit bland. I have other varieties, which I know to typically be a lot better tasting, but that’s by far the plant doing best.
The tomatillos are definitely starting to swell up inside the casings as well; I’ve never actually cooked with them before, as on the rare occasions they are available here it’s canned only, so advice on when to pick and suggestions- preferably vegetarian- for recipes would be appreciated! I have a sneaky suspicion that, when they are grown, which is all home growing, people pick them too late here, assuming they should be ripe.
Start by looking up “salsa verde” (green salsa) usually will involve some onions & cilantro. Has a tangy quality that’s different from standard red salsa, but I love it.
And saying zero instead of o. There are 2 zeros in my phone number, so I get to say it twice!!
I forgot to share these bits about my appointment this morning.
Before the tech stuck the TWENTY-THREE electrodes on my head (individually, no caps here) she asked my name and date of birth (typical) then if I knew the month, (yep) the year, (yep) and who is president - the last was met with a snort and an eye-rolling Oh gawd!! Seems she gets similar reactions a lot - she laughed.
Then we were talking about miscellaneous things - kids, schools, dogs - and for some reason I said something about places that are putting up solar arrays over parking lots. Honest to goodness, she thinks that doing that will drain the sun of energy. So I changed the subject. Then she was telling me how, with her last pregnancy, she was told she had gestational diabetes. But she didn’t think the Dr knew what he was talking about. I guess because a certificate as an imaging tech makes her more knowledgeable than his MD. Because she already had 4 kids with no problem… So another change of subject.
She was a very pleasant person and seemed to be most competent, but I’m glad she found her niche in the medical world away from anything requiring more in-depth knowledge of things.
Just finished giving my car a major league vacuuming, including taking the cover out of the trunk and removing all the floor mats. Now the carpet is black again, without bits of leaves and crud and paper scraps. I guess that counts as accomplishing something.
Had a second breakfast today (Frosted Flakes) and at the gym trying to burn some of the calories off. I also do some reading between treadmill sets, working my way through dozens of old paperbacks (we’re talking 70’s/80’s science fiction for the most part). I should have enough to see me through 2027 I think.
And breath has been caught so back on for another 25 minutes, 3.5mph@10.0 degrees elevation. Be back this evening after dinner.
