BTDT! Especially as a teacher. It always justified my purchases if I was buying it for my classroom.
Amen. I hope the rest of your body gets it’s act together.
The murder mystery series by Joanne Fluke, including Chocolate Chip Cookie Murder is very good. I’ve read most of them. I also like the ones by Dianne Mott Davidson. Having been a caterer way back when, I’m a sucker for a good culinary mystery. I believe that I watched one of the movies and it was just ok by comparison.
It’s very weird, but in the last month or two I’ve just stopped wearing my glasses most of the time. Granted, my prescription wasn’t very strong, but I guess I’ve just adjusted to being home most of the time and how I need to see things here.
Just for fun my left hip has decided that my right leg doesn’t need to get all of the attention. Yay?
I am very proud of MusicMan who called the crisis number for the VA yesterday and we now have some kind of an appointment Tuesday up north to talk about things.
Today we are going to a surprise birthday party for one of the clients where he works. And I’m going to try to get the person who lowballed me on the price of one of my items for sale on Marketplace to just come get the damn thing. I just want the stuff that I have for sale out of the way.
Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 73 Amurrkin out and mostly cloudy with a pedicted high of 83 (BRRR!) with rain this afternoon. Today I shall make an Eyetalian cream cheese sheet cake, party baked beans, and a gallon each of sweet and unsweet tea to take over to the church house tomorrow. Tomorrow is our fill in Priest’s last Sunday with us, so we postponed first Sunday brunch until tomorrow to give him a send off. Fried chikin and ham are bein’ provided and everybody is bringin’ sides, desserts, etc. Other than that RDOS inactivity shall be the plan of the day. Any need to feed will be via forage as we have plenty of sammich makin’s etc.
JtC you have a point there. One must transition from day drinkin’ to cocktail hour drinkin’. Thus there should be a pause between the two. I feel five minutes should be enough time. That lamp shade looks like it came from a brothel. That’s the very reason I would have bought it.
Lily “Exploding Crack Vipers” would be a most excellent band name!
red sorry for all your electronic woes. Electronics and I have never gotten along very well, so I feel your pain.
sari good for you for tellin’ the cousins about the family no one talks about. Family history, good or bad, needs to be told.
Nettie you left pizza out. Of course, Buddy wanted to go after it. I mean, it’s pizza!
Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, onward into the day! Rah.
I took an antihistamine before bed and slept thru - it was glorious!! My bed linens are downstairs to be laundered and I’m keeping a happy thought about this problem being solved.
Hah - if I tried this with Higgs, she’d be spherical! She won’t stop eating till it’s ALL gone, which is why she’s on reduced rations. I should weigh her and see where her weight is now.
This is something I don’t get - I see signs everywhere saying “We’re Hiring” - unless people are looking for something more specific. Although if I was hungry enough, I’d even consider working fast food or retail.
Which leads to roadside panhandlers - FCD pointed out that the guys at a major intersection near here always look bathed and in clean clothes, which is interesting considering the heat here lately. Makes you wonder why they’re begging if they have the means to stay clean. I don’t know…
All I can say is I’m lucky to have good insurance.
Yesterday, lots of rain was forecast for today. Today, nothing. Or 50% chance, depending on which site you believe. Still, about 8-ish I hope to get outside and mow the ditch. FCD did the rest yesterday, sorta. I don’t like him to mow because he doesn’t do a very good job - he doesn’t look to see if he missed anything, and yesterday he missed a good bit. I’ll take care of it next week when I mow.
After mowage and a shower, it’ll be laundry for several hours. I figure at least 5 loads - maybe 6. Dammit. So I’ll get a workout running up and down the stairs.
Hidden because depressing. We’re feeling like MIL is really declining of late. She’s sleeping 16-18 hours a day, hardly eating, and really forgetful. I’ve also noticed she’s getting shaky again sometimes when she walks. But all she’ll say is “I’m fine. I’m fine.” - that’s her mantra. She’s not fine. When she naps on the couch, I find myself staring to see if she’s still breathing. It’s hard to know…
Daughter is having a tough time adjusting to the Elantra. It doesn’t have a back-up camera or automatic lights or push-button start. Yesterday she whined “I have to use a key!!!” Spoiled brat! They got it just in time, tho. In the rain storm the other day, SIL ran his HHR into the trailer hitch of a big-ass pickup. Truck was fine, but his radiator and front end is all bent up. So he’s driving the Rogue and Daughter has the Elantra. No telling what fixing the HHR will cost.
And so it goes - another day in Paradise. Happy Saturday!!
Mowage is done. I’m showered and dressed appropriately for places beyond Walmart. Laundry is sorted and first load is washing. MIL is still sleeping. FCD is at the boat. He refuses to take time to heal. Men!!!
Gonna read for a bit and maybe have some lemonade. I’m still kinda sweaty. It’s not all that hot, but mowage on a slant is definitely work.
It’s 59F and clear. It’ll be sunny, and the expected high temperature is 91F. I may or may not mow today.
shoe, I’m glad work was relatively mundane.
FCM, I am glad you have a treatment, and I hope it works faster than estimated.
I don’t really communicate with any of my cousins. I have some who live in Germany, but the last time I communicated with them was in the 90s. I am friends on Facebook with a couple of my cousins from my Dad’s side of the family, and the extent of our communications is essentially wishing each other Happy Birthday or sending holiday greetings. I keep in touch with one of my aunts (my Dad’s youngest sister). Other than that and some communication with my younger sisters, I don’t have any extended family communication.
I had hoped to take part of yesterday off, but as it turns out, I had to keep working. The Deputy and the SD asked me to take care of some things in their stead, and I had some other things crop up, too. Both have been, and will continue to be largely unavailable this month, so a lot of stuff is being diverted to me. It’s just part of the job.
We had two interviews for the MPA yesterday and the third both cancelled and withdrew from consideration due to a family emergency. The first interview went okay, and she was in the running, though both the Deputy and I had similar thoughts about some of her answers. Still, she was a contender. The second interview was a home run. I entered the chat five or so minutes before the interview (if you’re not early, you’re late), and the applicant was already there. We knew him and were excited he had applied. He told me he was very nervous, but I told him there was no need and just to be himself. Anyway, both his resume and interview were stellar. He answered all the questions with no generalities and gave many specific examples and outcomes.
He outscored everyone on the scoring matrix by a very wide margin. After hearing from the applicant who canceled and withdrew, the panel members and I met to review the matrix and rehash our thoughts on each applicant. We all agreed that the applicant described above was the one.
I’ve submitted the selection via to our HR folks, and I hope and pray it goes quickly. The HR specialist handling this action was out yesterday, so she won’t see it until next week.
Later, the SD called me because she had some stuff she wanted to talk about and some new things she wanted me to take care of in her stead. When we selected the MPA, we asked for her concurrence, and she gave it. However, she wanted to ask me why we didn’t choose one of our internal applicants, and I explained. I knew she wanted us to select that applicant, but her resume and current work habits didn’t merit that, and frankly, I’m not up for MORE babysitting. I need someone who can run with a task or instruction; she is not that person. I know she needs to make more money, and I guess she had expressed to the SD how much she wanted the job. I chose the person best for the organization, much like the SD did when she decided on the deputy over me for the deputy position.
We considered ourselves to be pretty lucky too! When the globe started to fall, I looked for GG because we were going to want to get him out of there right away. He’s lived a very safe and sheltered life, he doesn’t know to not walk on glass.
Dang about your friend’s lamp. I’ll bet we said some of the same words your friend did last night!
Our trash is supposed to be picked up on Monday, but they have picked up on Tuesdays (due to an emergency in Charleston) since GG and I got here. The first week I dutifully took the big can to the street Sunday night while noticing that nobody else had cans out, and then checked during the day to see if I should being the can in but it never got emptied. When I talked to Hubs that night I asked about it and he said he was sure it was Monday morning but to leave the can out. It was emptied early Tuesday morning.
The next Sunday, I took the can out and again, nobody else had their cans out and it wasn’t emptied until Tuesday. Hmmmm, I’m seeing a pattern. The following Sunday, Hubs was here and he took the can out as was right and proper. We must have confused the neighbor to the right because they took their can out as well.
That Monday we looked at their webpage and saw the “emergency” announcement. Now our can goes out on Monday evenings just like everyone elses, LOL!!!
@Baker I’ve been thinking about you. How is your recovery going? Your typing looks pretty good, I hope it is pain free.
Do check it for cat hair, just in case he managed to get a sneaky paw under the lid while he was prying at it. Don’t bother to ask how I know to do that…
Oh yeah, that’s always a lot of fun. My hip goes out and I start gimping around which twists my back which makes my opposite shoulder hurt and sleeping is such a joy then.
I’m glad MusicMan made the call. That is a BIG first step and you are right to be proud of him.
I think you just need time to swap out your day drinkin’ tumblers fer fancy stemware to make the transition.
We put up more curtains yesterday and the difference in the noise in here is pretty amazing. The empty train cars heading back to the mine are noisy and squeeky and used to make GG go hide under a bed. Now he barely flicks an ear at them.
I just saw Hubs go by with a ladder, I’d probably better go stand behind him and worry.
She wants to go to Shawn O’Donnells down in Mount Vernon for breakfast. I’ve pulled out my black T-shirt with ‘I [image of a pint of Guinness]’ on it, and my bright green boxer briefs to wear. (I’ll also wear jeans.)
Not a achy this morning, so I may be somewhat productive.
I liked the Goldy Bear mysteries, I wasn’t impressed with Joanne Fluke’s work. I also liked the Eugenia Potter series by Virginia Rich.
Good. IME with a former partner, they can be a huge help.
The Roku remote has decided to work this morning. I guess that now I’ll be processing two returns.
She must have a different trim package than I do. You can get an aftermarket back up camera. With small children and a dog, it would probably be a good idea.
Up, caffeinating, breakfasted and fixing to do KP. Sloth features heavily on the agenda today. I did find another Cricut on MP that I’ll pick up Friday. It’s ~$25 more, but includes a few cartridges, a binder for them and some tools, so will be worth the price.
The morning hasn’t started off well. We had planned to drive over to the tiny town of Stockholm, WI (about 70 miles from here) today. It’s a nice drive along the Mississippi and there is a business there that has a restaurant and the best pies to be found. We usually go every year and bring some back for the front office staff. Then we were going to go a bit further south to the Lavender Garden, which we haven’t yet seen.
But. . .the wife didn’t sleep well last night for whatever reason, and she’s still abed at 0915. I suppose we could just leave a little later than anticipated, but they run out of pies pretty quickly on the weekend. I’ll have to wait and see if she’s still up for it. An interesting fact about that town: it’s so small that one man owns every business and non-residential property there, including a campground near the river.
Considering they’re dealing with the financial aftermath of her being out of work for 3 months, I’m pretty sure a camera is not anywhere on her list. And her Elantra is the most basic one made in 2016 - FIL and MIL were looking for wheels and nothing more. And when they gave it to BIL, he didn’t care either.
Alexa just told me to check my laundry, so I shall. Downward I go!!
Good morning all. Woke up around 6:30am and started to get out of bed but moved into a position that just felt sooooo comfortable that I drifted back off to sleep until after 8am. So slowly making my way into the day. Decided to have a regular, all-American type breakfast (albeit from the refrigerator and freezer, pre-made and pre-cooked) with buttermilk pancakes, syrup, butter and bacon with Diet Pepsi (hey, I can drink what I want…). Verdict was not too bad, not up to restaurant quality but at least McDonald’s level of tastiness. so with 900 calories or so on-board, time to start…well, not much, agenda is clear except for maybe a gym visit later on today. It is 75F, slept without the AC on all night and still cool enough to do without. Heading to 84F with some more rain forecast, in fact there is a 50% chance or better all next week for rain showers, so looks like the dry spell is over.
suzie, just for grins I put ‘exploding crack vipers’ into Google and the best they could come up with was a rapper named Viper who apparently uses crack, but hasn’t exploded (yet).
JtC, nice lamp. And yeah, usually my garbage is picked up on Thorsday, but sometimes I forget there was a holiday that week and I’m the only one with the bin on the curb. And glad the globe made it though the gravity drop ok.
FCM, glad you are doing better. And I can sympathize a bit with daughter, once you become used to that rear camera, you tend to depend on it more. She’ll just have to remember to drive forward all the time… And best wishes on MIL; I get the feeling she’ll just drift away one night and you’ll find her in the morning. Best wishes.
Coppertone, glad you got something into the account. Now if the letter will come…
Sari, you had a fairly extended family, my parent’s families were relatively small and I think I’ve outlived all but my brother’s bunch (Dad was 45 and Mom was 37 when I came along so most were much older than me).
Nettie, pizza is apparently the universal food. Good luck with the Vet appointments. And yeah! for the quick glass turnaround. Mine usually is the 7-10 days you mention.
Taters, glad you got the person that is best suited to the job. Just hope the individual who needed more money doesn’t file a complaint or something.
Damn, doesn’t seem like it’s been 55 years since then.
Sticky Buns, wishing for a good result for MusicMan at the VA.
Cookie, Mmmmm, pie… But hoe that wife-unit is feeling OK.
And time for me to stop fooling around and get down to some serious slothing. Think I’ll watch a bit of The Open and then maybe even sweep the house. Take care all.
I remember the moon landing - grainy tho it was on our B&W TV. That surely makes me feel old.
MIL slept till almost 11:30 - almost 14 hours!
Mean, third load in the washer, second in the dryer, first folded and put away. Three or 4 more to go. And it may or may not rain today. Or snow, I suppose.
Winken the wonderful was an all black cat. One year during home improvement week I painted a floor black. I got done painting and put a fan in the room to let it dry. All that was in the room was the fan and a lamp…or so I thought. When I went in hours later to check the floor I nearly kicked Winken through the goal posts! I didn’t know she was in there!
Floor wash lighting really helps with house panthers. Strip lighting or low night lights.
Y’all did get lucky with the light. Shards really fly and can end up far from the impact point. My cats go flying at the noise but curiosity brings them back and I have to corral them before clean up happens. Bonus cat points if they can break something in the wee zero hours of the morning.
I mentally put the comma in the wrong place and parsed this as “In my experience, with a former partner they can be a huge help” and thought, “Aren’t they still together?”
So, would you say you have Stockholm Syndrome?
Well, SOMEbody excelled at playing “Monopoly” as a kid!
Oh, isn’t that just the best feeling?
Concur that this is one of the likeliest (and best-case scenario) outcomes.
You ain’t kiddin’.
One of these things is not like the other one
Monkey approves of your plan and sends you all of Bastet’s best wishes for a successful adoption, whenever that may be.
I’ll bring the dollar bills! Will there be a cover charge?
