(Old) Alexa, start the MMP

@Sticks_and_Scones

Love the pillows. They look divine.

Was that the real old fashioned ones I recall from my grade school days? They had a delightful after aroma and purple ink. They made a clunk a clunk sound as they were printing that I could hear from the stairway.

I seem to have a cold. My nose has been congested or runny all day. I’m feeling not quite as well as I should feel. I took a COVID test earlier (expired 12/22) and it came back negative. I should go get a new test tomorrow. I think I’ll take a sick day.

Arranged marriage or Love match?
I thank you heartily on behalf of Harriet (and my grade school self).

Aka ditto machines?

Yes - that’s the name! I could not recall what those were.

A ditto machine (a.k.a. a spirit duplicator) was a different copy machine. It smelled better than the Gestetner but the print was blurrier. You’d make a ditto master (two-part master document), then run part of that on a cylindrical drum. The copy was purplish.

I’d type my masters without a ribbon in the typewriter so the front of the sheet was blank, the pigmented wax having been transferred to the back. This stopped kids from peering at a forthcoming test if they saw it on my desk.

I can remember using those duplicators in schools where I was teaching back in the 70’s.

Never even thought about that. I did have it covered and it’s pretty tight stitching, but I’ll look into it before going back. Did get 50 minutes of baking and 1/4 mile of walking in so that did feel good after nearly a week of doing without.

BBBoo, good on ya and best wishes for the lawn guy in this weather. And you really can stay busy! I used to read 3-4 years ahead, don’t recall any problems getting what i wanted.

Lily’s going to go old-school on some paper products!!

So…someone is wrong on the Internet??

And that’s all for the late night final. Take care all.

Hey, the ditto machine doesn’t require electricity, making it the perfect tool for underground leaflet production.

So they didn’t dispatch the package cars till 11. Which was good, because so many people called out, we had so many call outs, it took 6 hours to unload the trailers. And we were still unloading when the drivers left. At least the 50% that didn’t call out. So it’s gonna be a day tomorrow.

It’s the phone. and the subject(Spot and my apartment view are excellent subjects).

((((Fishy}}}} I didn’t know it was that close to you.

An inch.

That sounds wise. And if anyone gives you any grief about it, threaten to unclog your nose at them (with a French accent, of course).

Oh, my. Ditto machines. I’m a lousy typist. When I was student teaching, I had to use a mimeo machine, even though copy machines were readily available, and that’s all we used at the college where I taught. It was slow going because I couldn’t make mistakes on the master copy. The only good thing was that I got the first sniff.

Kneading alone can burn up to 50 calories! :yum:

I remember running one of those for my high school science teacher. My senior year I helped out my soph year science teacher doing things like running off quizzes and feeding the meal worms to feed to the tarantulas.

Then there was the dissection tray disaster. I was to reload the trays with the weird black wax that one pins down parts of the frog to, but as I was pouring it into a tray the tongs slipped and I ended up with a whole bunch of boiling wax on my forearm. I came out of the lab room with my arm all black and told Bertie (Mr Berthiaume) I burned myself. The black arm kinda freaked some people out That damn wax was a bear to get rid of. IIRC it was some sort of petroleum based thing, they ended up using nasty solvents to get it off.
Then I had a soccer game later that evening. The refs didn’t like that I had strapped a shin guard to my arm to protect the burn. Still have a scar some 35? years later. Second dumbest injury ever.

Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off to heave. It’s 13 degrees Ferret Height(-10.5 Centipedes) outside.

That was the best part of school!

Happy Birthday FCM !
:birthday: :champagne:

Good morning and Happy Birthday, FCM!!

The show makers do make wide shoes but the shoe stores can’t be bothered to stock them. It is a constant trigger for me.

Mornin’ everyone.

It’s 27F and clear outside. Our primarily clear skies will become cloudy this afternoon, and the expected high temperature is 42F.

I drove down to Oly town yesterday morning. It was 26F and clear at my house, but about 10 miles south of my home, I encountered freezing fog that was very dense in some places as I made my way down to Oly town.

Aah, the ditto machine. I remember it being a privilege to run it in the office of my elementary school (I got to be an office helper). I still remember the smell.

BBBoo, good on you for going around the numbskull librarian. I, too, was a very advanced reader, but fortunately, I was encouraged by both my school librarian and teachers. I was at the college level from third grade, so they had a hard time finding good books, and I spent countless hours at the public library across the street from my elementary school.

Nellie, here’s hoping that infractions three and four occur quickly so the eviction process begins.

Sticky, good luck with the disability filing. I hope this round goes through.

The people behind my backyard have a whole pack of Bernese mountain dogs. They are beautiful but loud when they and my next-door neighbor’s dogs have their barkfests everyday. It’s most annoying, but dogs bark.

FCM, Happy Birthday! I hope your birthday is wonderful and relaxing.

I hope you all weren’t thinking I was whining about losing telework status. While I am much more productive at home and have saved much gas money and wear and tear on my Jeep, I am mourning his other quite vindictive EOs. Some are downright scary (requiring people to report on others, for instance), which has me down. 'Nuff said.

Yesterday was filled with quelling employee unease, tasks, projects, and meetings. Today will be more of the same, but from home. I plan to enjoy (as much as you can enjoy work) these last days of WFH. I will miss my morning quiet time and being able to knock out a couple of quick chores before I start the work day.

Nellie, I, too, have bunions, which makes finding shoes a chore. Also, wide shoes are not always the answer for me because they are often too wide around the back of the foot, resulting in slippage and rubbing. I have seriously been considering the lapiplasty, but I don’t think my HMO does those, and I will probably have the traditional bunionectomy, which has a much longer recovery time. I have to research more.

I’m going to finish my coffee and turn on the dishwasher. I hope you all have a smooth, easy day.

@FairyChatMom

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 20 Amurrkin out and cloudy with a predicted high of 41 and partly cloudy. I want the evil white stuff to go away now! However, it lingers. I need to go to the sto’ and get some Hawaian rolls for the chikin sallit sammiches we’re takin’ for the reception after Doris’s funeral tomorrow. I also need to make chikin sallit today. Any need to feed today will be via forage as there’s stuff that needs to get et up.

And now this…

Reading is vitally important. There are never less than 3 library books sitting here with me.
Funny how smells are so memorable.
I used to like the smell of car gas when little; not any more.
My pastor is going out of his way to pick up my prescription.
Its 17F right now.
Its to go up to 24 with snow showers later.
Monday-heat wave-33!
